Description
Sept. 30, 1941. H. HERBERT COMBINATION DISPENSER AND CLEANING BRUSH Filed Feb. 26, 1940 INVENTOR H44 1? V H ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 30, 1941 UNITED COMBINATION DISPEN 1 Claim.
This invention relates to combination dispenser and cleaning brush.
An object of this invention is to provide an article of the character described comprising a container'or bottle, to the mouth of which is attached a valved cap which may be opened by depressing a lever, and a brush removably attached to the cap and consisting of a pan to receive cleaning fluid passing from the container through the valved opening.
Another object of this invention is to provide a highly improved, rugged and durable article of the character described, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate, assemble and disassemble, and which shall yet be practical and efficient to a high degree.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described,
and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claim.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a combination dispenser and cleaning brush embodying the invention, illustrating the use thereof;
Fig. 2 is an axial, cross-sectional view through the brush, cap and neck of the bottle;
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the brush and cap; and
Fig, 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 2.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, III designates a combination dispenser and cleaning brush embodying the invention. The same comprises a bottle or container II having a neck I2 formed with external screw threads I3. Screwed to the threaded portion I3 of the neck, is a cap I4 having a top wall I5 formed with a triangular shaped opening I6.
Means is provided for normally retaining the opening I6 closed. To this end, there is mounted on the top wall I5 of the cap I4, 2. pair of upstanding lugs I8 supporting a transverse pivot pin I9.

Application February 26, 1940, Serial No. 320,905
Hinged on the pivot pin. I9 and between the lugs I8, is a lever 20 having a handle portion 2I extending in one direction and provided with an arm 22 extending in the opposite direction. Arm 22 is formed with a circular opening 23 in which is inserted a rubber or cork disc 24, for closing the opening I6. handle 2| and the top wall I5 of the cap, is a coil compression spring 26.
Itwill now be noted that the coil compression spring 26 normally keeps the opening I6 closed. Upon pressing the handle, the opening I6 is uncovered.
The cap I4 is formed with a pair of opposed grooved guides 30 having inclined grooves 3|. Mounted on the cap I4, is a brush member 33 comprising a pan portion 34, having a rearwardly extending tongue 35, formed with tapering side edges 36 and received in the grooves 3| between the. guides 30. Member 33'may thus be withdrawn by pulling the same forwardly, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
It will be noted that the pan is located beneath the opening I6. The bottom wall 40 of the pan is formed with a plurality of parallel slots 4|, in each of which is inserted the ends of a folded back brush element 43, which may be made of any suitable textile cloth, preferably having a ure, the article III is shown in the position for cleaning a cuff 58 or the like garment.
It will now be understood that the combination dispenser and brush may be used for liquid shoe polish or for applying any other liquid to be brushed upon a surface.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A bottle having a neck formed with external screw threads, 2. cap screwed to the screw threaded portions of said neck, the top wall of Interposed between pivoted to the top wall of said cap and having a handle portion extending in one direction, a spring interposed between the handle portion and the cap, said lever having a portion extending in an opposite direction and overlying said opening, said cap being formed with a pair of opposed grooved guides, a detachable pan having a tongue received within said guides, said pan having a bottom wall formed with a plurality of parallel slots, and brush elements extending through said slots, said pan being positioned to receive liquid passing from the bottle through said opening.
HARRY HERBERT.
