i G01N HOLDER Filed Jan. 4, 1939 lPatented Sept. 23, 1941 UNTED STATES PATENT OFFICE COIN HOLDER Frank W. Norton, Chicago, Ill.
Application January 4, 1939, Serial No.
1 Claim.
The invention relates to improvements in coin holders and has for its primary object the provision of an improved arrangement for holding and carrying coins which is capable of economical construction and highly eicient in use.
Other objects will yappear hereinafter.
rihe invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which:
Fig. l is a face view of a coin holder embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a face View thereof but showing the flexible cover member opened up to disclose the interior construction thereof;
Fig. 3 is a section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a section line 4--4 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a rear view of the body member;
Fig. 6 is an enlarged section taken substantially on the line f-Ii of Fig. 3; and
Fig. '7 is a perspective view of the joined edges ci two cover members employed in the construction.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a rectangular body member It having a series of coin pockets II, I2, I3 and Il?. opening in the face and one edge thereof and separated from each other by means of partitions l5, I6 and Il. Each pocket member is provided at its inner end with ended ribs I8 which serve to hold the coins in inclined positions therein and the opposite sides of the partitions and body are suitably grooved as shown to receive the edges of the coins in the usual way in coin holders of this general type. At their outer ends the partitions I5 and I1 are provided with transverse bores in which yieldable rubber plugs I9 are inserted so that their sides project into both oi the adjacent coin pockets, thus affording yieldable stops for all four pockets, said stops serving to prevent accidental falling of the coins from the pockets. The body member I0 thus shaped is preferably formed of plastic material such as hard rubber, or the like so that the same may be readily molded in the form shown.
In the edge opposite the open ends of the taken substantially on the coin pockets, the body member I0 is provided with a rectangular groove 20 and flexible cover members 2l .and 22, which may be conveniently of leather, and their edges joined together by stitching 23 and inserted in the groove 20 and secured therein by means of rivets 24. By this arrangement the cover member may be made of comparatively small pieces of leather or the like and at the same time a convenient and ornamental hinge and edge provided. The cover member 2I is secured in place over the rear 'side of the body I0 by means of rivets 25 as shown, the free end- 26 of' the cover member 2| being provided with a snap fastening 2l co-operating with a snap fastening 28 on the cover member 22 so as to permit the closing of the cover member in pocketbook form. A recess 29 is lprovided in the rear sides of the body I0, which when thus covered by the cover member 2|, provides a pocket for cards and the like.
A notch 30 is provided in the outer edge of the pocket I3 to facilitate withdrawal of cards from said pocket.
By this arrangement a desirable coin holder may be provided which is capable of' economical production and highly eiiicient in use. The specific form and .arrangement of parts disclosed is a simple and effective one for the purpose.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as tall within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A container comprising a rigid body member, provided with means for receiving articles to be retained, there being a groove in said body member; and a flexible cover for said body member formed in two parts, having their edges arranged adjacent to each other and inserted and secured in said groove, said cover parts being bent in opposite directions from said groove and extended around said body member to enclose the same.
FRANK W. NORTON.
