Applicationl January 23, 1940, SerialNo; 255,256
101mm.' (criss- 295) This invention relates to a urinal and has relation more particularly to a device of this kind especially designed and adapted for use by a male, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind which can be readily 7 attached ot the person in a manner ready for use at any time while the person is in bed whereby is assured a dry bed after a full night of sound sleeping regardless of any form of bladder weakness even to the extent oi complete paralysis of bladder co-ntrol.
The invention also has for an object to provide a device of this kind formed from rigid or noniiexible material so that any pressure which might be applied by the weight of the person will not force out the content of the vessel.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind comprising a vessel having associated therewith means for attaching the same to a person in a manner whereby the vessel will of its own accord maintain its desired position irrespective of the position of the person upon the bed.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved urinal whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in elevation with parts broken away of a urinal constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a view in top plan of the device as illustrated in Figure 1 with the waist encircling belt in fragment;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view in rear elevation of the upper portion of the container as herein comprised.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, my improved urinal comprises a container C of desired dimensions and capacity and which has its i walls formed from a suitable rigid or non-iiexible material so that when the same is carried by a person, the weight of the body will not collapse such container and force out therefrom any of its content which would be liable to occur if the walls of the container were flexible.
The body portion l of the container C is substantially pear-shaped in form and has a flat bottom 2. This bottom 2 is in a plane at right angles to 'the vertical orlongitudinal axis of the container C and is of a radii considerably less than the radii of the widest part of the body portion I. The upper part of the body I is continued by a restricted neck 3. 'Ihe outer open end of the neck 3 in side elevation is sigmoidal in form, as at 4, with its high point at the front and said sigmoidal margin is disposed on such curva tures to closely but comfortably conform to the body of the person adjacent thereto when the container is in use. As clearly illustrated in Fig. l, the low portion of the sigmoidal curve 4 is at the rear of the neck and by this arrangement it is obvious that the low portion of the curve 4 will not frictionally contact the underneath part of the organ.
The marginal edge 4, as particularly illustrated in Figure 2, is rounded so as to minimize liability of injury.
The neck 3 at the high point of its outer open end is provided with a suitable opening 5 through which is inserted a suspending tape 6. The connection of this tape 6 with the container C is of a conventional character whereby the tape 6 may be lengthened or shortened in order to assure the proper placement of the container C. This tape 6 is carried by and depends from a waist encircling member or belt 'l which may be of any type preferred.
It is to be particularly noted that the container C at all points therearound below the outer open end of the neck 3 is circular in cross section and without any form of handle. This is important as the container C will move freely with the body and can be comfortably worn.
It is also to be especially pointed out that the container C by having its bottom 2 of small diameter allows for increased slanting of the container C along its longitudinal axis thus assuring the container C being substantially entirely full before running over.
When the device is in use it is to be particularly pointed out that it has but a single point of suspensions and that associated with the outer or high point of the neck 3. This assures the effective maintenance of the container C in desired placement whether the person be awake or asleep or whether the person is lying upon his back orupon either side. It is also to be pointed out that the form of the container C plus its manner of suspension allows the container CI to change from one position to another without spillfrom a lying posture to either the side or fromV v one` side to the other, it is natural to bring the knees of the lower limbs forward. During this action the container C maintains its desired position, that is to say, with the neck 34 Well up and the lower end Well down. When the person turns from either side to a position lying on the back,
- the limbs naturally move t0 a more or less straight position. This will result in the container C assuming substantially the same position as when first applied.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a urinal constructed in :accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification Without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
, An urinal comprising a non-flexible container of substantially pear-shaped configuration having an elongated neck portion open at its upper end, the said upper end of the neck in side elevation being substantially sigmoidal to conform to the groin, the high portion of the neck being at the front and the low portion of the neck being at the rear, the said low portion of the neck not in frictional contact with the underneath part of the organ, a single flexible suspender for the container secured to the front high portion ofthe neck, said container at substantially all points therealong being circular in cross section.
