ream
This invention relates to improvements in a coat having a lining part which may be quickly and readily applied to or removed from the body of the coat but which lining isnot finished as a complete garment or intended to be worn without the coat.
In a prior coat of similar nature the removable lining part is usually afiixed to the body of the coat with a single slide fastener strip fitted into a channel extending beneath the collar portion and adjacent both inside marginal edges of the coat which results in a loose flap underneath the collar thereby detracting from the comfort and neat appearance of the coat when worn without the lining, and which flap has a tendency to curl up and expose the teeth of the slide.
fastener.
It is an object of this invention to provide a coat of the type adapted to receive a removable lining whichhas a neat smoothly fitting collar Portion unencumbered with slide fastener teeth and to provide a pair of slide fastening elements to connect the marginal side edges of the removable lining to the coat.
It is further an object of this invention' to provide an improved design of topcoat which may be manufactured and worn as a standard topcoat but when desired may be modified without expensive alteration to receive a removable lining.
Further objects and advantages of the improvements will be more readily apparent from the disclosure in the attached drawings and appended description of a preferred embodiment thereof, it being understood that the particular disclosure is merely illustrative of the invention as modifications may be made to suit particular styles and types of coats without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is an elevation showing the inside of the coathaving the slide fastener strips at the sides;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary elevation of the inside of the coat before applying the slide fastener strips:
both inside and out. The facing I 2 on each in-' Fig. 3 is an elevation of the inside of the coat side margin of the fabric front is secured by a line of stitching l3 so spaced from the edge thereof as to leave a pocket or channel l6 which is closed at its ends by the cross stitching M at the bottom and by being stitched down at I. at the top of the shoulders adjacent the collar portion 20. A part lining 22 is applied so that the coat will have a finished appearance. The lining 22 extends within the channels id but overlaps the upper ends of the is secured by the stitching l8. The topcoat may thus be manufactured as in Fig. 2 and sold for service as an ordinary coat but if the purchaser desires, a removable lining may be added whereby the coat may be worn either with or without the removable lining.
As shown in Fig. 1, a slide fastener strip 24 is stitched to the inside of the overlap of the facing l2 to be concealed within the channel or pocket It on each side of the garment.
The removable lining 26 may be made up of any desired material and is- 'cut and shaped to fit the outer coat as shown in Fig. 3. The lining 26 is provided at its marginal side edges with lines of slide fastener teeth elements 28 having the sliders 30 adapted to engage and lock together the corresponding fastening strips 24 and 28. Adjacent the collar portion the removable lining 26 has an extension 32 provided with snap fastener elements 34 adapted to engage corresponding elements 36 on the outer coat.
If the coats are made up as in Fig. 2 and it is desired to incorporate a removable lining, it is only necessary to sew on the tooth carrying strips 24 which will be concealed from view within the pockets or channels l6 and to apply the snap fastener elements 36 to the collar portion. No further cutting or alteration of the outer coat is required.
It should be noted that the channels or pockets iii are closed at their ends so that the edges of the facings do not constitute loose flaps, instead the pockets will remain closed to conceal the slide fastener teeth even with the coat carried over the arm.
We claim:
A completely finished outer coat having at least a partial permanent lining. said coat havfacing strips as shown and at the sides of the coat and the top portion of thereby, the upper edge portion or said removable lining adjacent the collar portion of the outer coat being exposed to view and means independent of the zipper strips for removably attaching said upper edge portion of said removable lining to the outer coat between the shoulder tips.
