Description
May 20, 1941. b. KUHN 2,243,037
KNIFE GUARD Filed Jan. 4, 1940 Patented May 26, 1941 EJNETE STATES NT FFECE 1 Claim.
My invention has for its object to provide an improvement in a longitudinally flat metal guard, with clips in the form of stairs, rising like steps to provide an exceedingly simple way, to use any ordinary kitchen knife as a paring or slicing knife.
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects, the invention still further resides in the novel construction, all of which will be fully described in the following detailed description, then be particularly pointed out in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the longitudinal fiat metal guard with an ordinary type of kitchen knife inserted in place.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the longitudinal flat metal guard by itself.
Figure 3 is a side view showing the clamping clip or clips in the form of rising like steps with a cross-section of knife-blade inserted in place enlarged.
In the drawing in which like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all of the figures;
4 represents the longitudinal head of the flat metal guard; 5 and 6 and. 9 represent the three clamping clips of the flat metal guard; 1 represents the knife blade; 8 represents the cutting edge of the knife blade.
To make the use of the longitudinally flat metal guard for peeling fruit or vegetables insert the knife blade 1, with the cutting edge 8 into the space between the step-like clamping clips 5 and 6. If used for slicing insert the knife-blade 'l with cutting edge 8 into the space between the steplike clamping clips 6 and 9. The novel construction of the clips 5, 6 and 9 in the form of rising-like steps (see Figure 3) is to facilitate the insertion of the knife-blade l with cutting edge 8 between the space of clips 5 and 6 or between the spaces 6 and 9.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A flat metal guard with the novel construction of having the clips or clamps arranged in the form of rising-like steps, to facilitate the entrance of the cutting edge between the space of the clips of the knife to be used.
CHARLES KUHN.
