3 Claims- This invention relates to cigarette dispensing devices, and its general object is to provide a device that is primarily designed to be operated by and for loading the cigarette smokers holder that forms the subject matter of my application for Smoking device, filed July 12, 1939, Serial No. 284,053, in that my holder can be inserted within the dispensing device and when withdrawn therefrom is loaded with a cigarette that is firmly seated within the holder, to be lighted and smoked.

A further object is to provide a cigarette dispensing device that houses a quantity of cigarettes for retaining them in a fresh and clean condition, and the cigarettes are individually i dispensed from the device, as well as simultaneously placed within the holder, in a manner to prevent any possibility of damage to the cigarettes.

Another object is to provide a cigarette dispensing device that may be associated with the instrument board of a motor vehicle and secured thereto by any suitable means, but the form shown is designed to be seated upon any suitable flat surface and preferably includes illuminating means to facilitate the application of the cigarette holder therein.

A still further object is to provide a cigarette dispensing device that includes a receptacle for receiving ashes and cigarette stubs. 30

Another object is to provide a cigarette dispensing device that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely efllcient in operation, use and service.

This invention also consists in certain other;

features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing the inventionin detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that my cigarette smokers holder which forms the subject matter of my previously referred to application, Serial No. 284,653, includes a mouth-piece I having a cigarette receiving rejcess 2 therein and mounted on the mouth-piece is a substantially ovate-shaped sectional ash tray 3 for enclosing the cigarette t, the sections of the tray being movable toward and away from each other for disposal in closed and opened positions, and spring pressed means including a sleeve 5 is mounted on a shaftfi that is fixed to the mouthpiece, acts to open and close the sections upon movement of the sleeve. The shaft has secured to the outer end thereof an abutment head 1 for the hinged means of the ash tray sections and the headalso acts as an abutment for operating my dispensing device of the present application, as shown in Figure 4.

My dispensing device, as clearly shown in Figure 1 is of general rectangular formation, as well as is relatively narrow, and includes a rear wall 8 and side walls 9, extending for the entire height of the dispenser, and a front wall Hi having its upper end flush with the upper ends of the rear of the receptacle, the lid being provided with a I handle it secured to and rising from the free end thereof to facilitate opening the same.

The dispenser also includes a bottom wall I! which together with the side walls 9 and partition I2 extend a considerable distance forwardly of the front wall It, for cooperation with the rear wall to provide a lower compartment it having an open front end, with a mounting strip it extending across the same, the mounting strip having hingedly secured thereto a door 20 for closing the same between the strip [9 and the lower partition l2. The door 20 is provided with a handle 2| and is normally held in closed position by a ;coil spring 22 having its ends secured to the door 20 and one of the guide strips 23 for a drawer 24 slldably mounted on the bottom wall, as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 3, the drawer being for the purpose of receiving ashes and is provided with a handle 25.

The lower partition I2 is flat, but the upper partition H includes inclined walls converging toward each other from the side walls 9 for guiding the cigarettes one at a time into a lower channel trough like portion 26 that is of a size to receive one cigarette, as best shown in Figure 1, and the front end thereof is open to register with the outlet opening l3, as best shown in Figure 2.

The partition l2 has its rear portion slotted longitudinally as at 21 and formed on and depending from the partition i2 upon opposite sides of the slot 2'! is a pair of spaced parallel cars 28 that have mounted between the same and pivoted thereto a lever 29 extending through the slot for the disposal of its upper end for movement within the space between the partitions H formed thereon, and one of the angle portions of the guide members is mounted for slidable movement on the partition I2, as clearly shown in Figure 3. The lower end of the lever 29 is bifurcated as best shown in Figure 5, and pivotally connected between and to the bifurcated Der-i tions thereof is the lower end of a link 34 that has its upper end mounted between and pivoted to a pair of spaced parallel ears 35 formed on and depending from an elongated right angle strip 36 that has its horizontal angle portion slidably mounted on the partition [2 while its vertical angle portion is disposed within the path of the abutment head I on the hinge shaft 6 forthe sections of the ash tray 3 of the. cigarette holder, as will be obvious upon inspection of Figure 3,

which illustrates the cigarette ejecting means in normal position in dotted lines and in fully operated position in full lines.

In order to urge and hold the cigarette ejecting means in normal position, I provide a coil spring 31 having one ofits ends connected to, a pin 38 secured to and depending from the partition l2, and its opposite end is connected to a pin 39 secured to and depending from the end of the link 34 that is pivoted to the ears 35, as

clearly shown in Figures 2 and 3.

but it might be mentioned that when it is de-rv sired to load the holder with a cigarette, the sections of the ash tray 3 are first moved to open position, as best shown in dotted lines in Figure l, thence the open ash tray is inserted through the passage i l for the disposal of the sections upon opposite sides of the trough like portion 26,. and with the cigarette receiving recess 2 registering with the outlet opening l3. The insertion of the ash tray 3 will cause the head 1 to engagethe strip 36 for moving the lug against the cigarette within the trough line portion, through the medium of the link and lever, for ejecting the cigarette through the tray like portion and into the recess of the mouth-piece as will'be apparent upon inspection of Figure 4.

The forwardly projecting portion of the partition [2 acts as a shelf for supporting the holder when loading the same, and in order to facilitate the insertion of the sectional ash tray within the passage [4, especially after dark and in dark places, I provide a light bulb 40 in circuit with a suitable source of current and mounted in a socket extending inwardly from one side wall of a shade 4| formed on or otherwise secured to the front Wall I0, for the bulb to overlie the front end of the partition I2 and passage M to illuminate the same.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.

It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

'What'I claim is:

1. In a cigarette dispensing device that is actuated by abutment means fixed to a smokers holder, and said device comprising a receptacle for receiving cigarettes and provided with an outlet opening, a trough in the bottom of the receptacle for individually receiving cigarettes and having an open end registering with the outlet opening, means for directing the cigarettes to the trough, means operable by the smokers holder through the medium of said abutment means for ejecting a cigarette within the trough through the opening and into the holder, and means for supporting the holder in registration with the opening for receiving the ejected cigarette. v

2. In a cigarette dispensing device that is actuated by abutment means fixed to a smokers holder, and said device comprising a receptacle for receiving cigarettes and provided with an outlet opening, a hinged closure for the upper end of the receptacle, a trough in the bottom of the receptacle for individually receiving cigarettes and having an open end registering with the outlet opening, means for directing the cigarettes to .the trough, means operable by the smokers holder through the medium of said abutment means for ejecting the cigarette within the trough through the opening and into the holder, mounting means for the ejecting means and extending in advance of the opening to provide means for supporting the holder in registration with the opening to receive the ejected cigarette, a lever included in the ejecting means and pivoted to the mounting means, a cigarette engaging lug'carried by the lever and movable in the trough, means connected to the lever for operating the latter and normally arranged to be engaged and moved by said abutment means when the holder is moved in registration with the outlet opening, and a spring for urging and holding the ejecting means in normal position.

3. In' a cigarette dispensing device that is actuated by abutment means fixed to a smokers holder, and said device comprising a receptacle for receiving cigarettes and provided with an outlet opening, a trough in the bottom of the receptacle for individually receiving cigarettes and having an open end registering With the outlet opening, means for directing the cigarettes to the trough, means operable by the smokers holder through the medium of said abutment means for ejecting a cigarette within the trough through the outlet opening and into the holder,

horizontally disposed slotted mounting means for the ejecting means and extending in advance of the opening to provide means for supporting the holder in registration with the outlet opening to receive the ejected cigarette, ears depending from the mounting means, a lever included in the ejecting means and pivoted to the ears to extend through the slot, a cigarette engaging lug pivotally connected to the upper end of the lever and mounted in the trough, means slidably associated with the mounting means for holding 10 the lug at right angles to the bottom of the trough, a strip slidably associated with the mounting means and normally arranged to be engaged and moved by said abutment means when the holder is moved in registration with the outlet opening, a link between the lever and the strip, and a spring connected to the mounting means and the link for urging and holding the ejecting means in normal position.
