The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for supporting garments by means of suspender straps or the like, and has for its primary object to provide an attaching loop carried by the suspender and adapted for engagement by a button attached to a garment for securing the garment in position.

A further important object of the present invention is to provide a garment supporting loop of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which Figure l is a front elevational View of one form of garment supporting loop constructed in accordance with my invention,

Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the loop detached from the garment,

Figure 4 is a front elevational view showing the manner in which the loop may be employed for securing a shirt to a trouser belt without requiring a button-hole,

Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 4,

Figure 6 is a perspective view of a modified attaching member for the loop, and

Figure 7 is a front elevational view of a further modification.

Figure 8 is a front elevational view, partly in section, showing another modification.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, and with particular reference to Figures 1 to 5 inclusive, the numeral 5 designates a wire loop member generally having an intermediate portion bent substantially in the form of a rectangular loop member 6 within which a suspender strap 1 may be attached. Portions of the wire extend in parallelism from the bottom edge of the loop as shown at 8 and are secured together by means of a clip member 9. One end of the wire terminates adjacent the clip 9 and is formed into an eye it and the other end of the wire extends downwardly from the clip and is provided with a return bend II to form an elongated loop 12, one side of said loop terminating in an angular portion l3 which is slidably inserted through the eye 8 and formed at its extremity with a knob I4 to prevent withdrawal of the free end of the loop I 2 from the eye 8.

The knob I4 also constitutes a head or finger grip by means of which the sliding portion l3 of the loop may be moved. through the eye 8 to enlarge the loop I! by spreading apart the sides thereof so as to permit a button 15 to be positioned therein, the button being shown attached to the belt portion I6 of the trousers or similar garment l1.

In Figures 4 and 5 of the drawings I have illustrated the fastening loop employed for use in securing the lower edge of a shirt 18 to the trousers to prevent upward riding movement of the shirt, the shirt material being positioned over the button [5 and then inserted in the loop portion [2 of the garment fastener.

In Figure 6 of the drawings I have illustrated a modified form of the invention which includes a metallic plate member [9 having a horizontal slotted opening 20 adjacent its upper edge for attaching a belt strap or the like and welded, soldered, or otherwise secured to the face of the plate is the loop designated at 2| which has one end portion formed with the eye 22 and the sliding end portion shown at 23 inserted through said eye for the adjustment of the loop to accommodate the button as heretofore explained.

In Figure 7 I have illustrated a further modified construction which includes a strip of sheet metal 23 having a button 24 secured at one end by means of a pin 25 and to which the suspender strap 26 is attached through the button-hole 21 formed in said strap. The strip of material 23 is formed with a longitudinally offset curved portion 23 defining a shoulder 29 having its edge portion rolled as shown at 30 to constitute the eye for slidably receiving the bar 3| which is formed at one end of the wire 32 connected to the free end of the curved strip 28 and cooperating therewith to form the button attaching loop.

The wire portion of each of the loops is preferably formed of spring metal to normally maintain the loop in its contracted form In the modification shown in Figure 8, the slotted plate [9' has a tubular part [9 connected therewith which is provided with a slot 22 in one end portion and in the lowermost part of the tubular member and one end of the button engaging loop 2| has its free end bent at right angles as shown at 2!" for passing through the slot and the tubular member. As will be seen the slot acts as a guide means for the upper end of the movable limb of the loop and by pressing upon the knob at the outer end of the horizontal part 2|" the movable limb can be moved away from the other limb so as to free the button. As soon as pressure is removed from the horizontal part the movable limb will move back to the position occupied in Figure 8.

It is believed the details of construction, manner of use and advantages of the device will be readily apparent from the foregoing without further explanation.

What I claim is:

1. A garment fastening loop comprising a wire member bent to form an upper garment attaching loop, portions of the wire extending downwardly from said upper loop, a clip securing said portions of the wire, an eye formed at one end of the wire and disposed adjacent the clip, a downwardly extending loop formed by the other end of the wire, and a horizontally extending extremity formed as a continuation of one side of said last named loop and slidably positioned in said eye.

2. A garment fastening loop comprising an attaching plate, a wire member having a portion adjacent one end secured to said plate, an eye at said one end of the wire, a downwardly extending loop formed by said wire and a horizontally extending extremity at the other end of the wire formed as a continuation of one side of said loop and slidably mounted in said eye.

3. A garment fastening loop comprising a metallic strip having attaching means at its upper end, a shoulder at one ed e of the strip, a guide carried by the shoulder, a loop formed in the strip below said guide and a horizontal member carried by one side of the loop and slidably mounted in said guide and adapted to expand and contract said loop.

4. A garment fastening device comprising an attaching plate, a horizontally extending tubular part on the plate and having a slot in one end portion at the bottom thereof, a loop depending from the plate and having one limb movable with the upper end of said limb passing through the slot and said end having a horizontal part passing through the tubular member.

A garment fastening loop comprising an upper garment attaching portion, a guide carried by said portion, a button engaging loop extending downwardly from said garment attaching portion, said loop including a movable leg portion free at its upper end and a fixed leg portion carried by the garment attaching portion, said movable leg being adapted for movement relative to the fixed leg for receiving a button in the loop, and a manipulating extension on the free end of the movable leg of the loop and slidably mounted in said guide, said extension being positioned in crossed relation to the fixed leg and projecting outwardly therefrom and adapted to move the movable leg away from the fixed leg upon an inward movement of said extension.

6. A garment fastening loop comprising an up per garment attaching portion, a guide carried by said portion, a button engaging loop formed of spring wire extending downwardly from said garment attaching portion, said loop including a fixed leg portion and a movable leg portion diverging toward their upper ends and adapted for receiving a button therebetween when said movable leg is moved away from said fixed leg and a horizontally positioned manipulating extension on the upper end of said movable leg portion and slidably mounted in said guide, said extension projecting in crossed relation outwardly of the fixed leg and providing a finger grip for moving the movable leg away from the fixed leg.
