Description

UNITED-STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH P. FULLER, OF VILLULA, ALABAMA.
IMPROVEMENT IN VEHICLE-SPRING BRACES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 213,888, dated April 1, 1879 application filed September 9, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH P. FULLER, of Villula, in the county of Russell and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Running-Gear for Vehicles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a-full, clear, and exact description of my invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. v
Figure 1 is a plan view of a set of springs to which my improvement is applied. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal view of the same, and Fig. 3 is an end view.
This invention has relation to supports for the springs of vehicles; and it consists inthe improvements in the construction of the same hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
The metallic strap A extends from the front spring, B, to the rear spring, B, (or it may be made in two parts, it not being essential to form a continuous piece,) and is secured to the under sides of the upper halves or portions of each of said springs by bolts 0 c, and is bent up at b to clamp the outer edges of said springs, as shown.
Short strap-braces G O are bolted to the end rails, d, of the body, and are bent over the spring-bars D D to form the clamp, as shown, and are secured by the bolts 0 0. Holes f f are made in the strap A, through which it is riveted to the bottom of the body of the vehicle. In this instance the supporter is applied to the front and rear springs of avehicle. It can be as readily applied to side springs in the same manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A brace for vehicle -springs, consisting of the strap A, bent at a right angle, 1), so as to encompass the spring and spring-bar, in combination with the bracing-straps G and G, the ends of which are bent over the spring-bars, the whole forming a rigid brace, constructed substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
J. P. FULLER.
Witnesses:
