Description

3, 1938. c. w. HUBER v 2,128,147
PAPERHANGERS TABLE ATTACHMENT Filed May 4, 1957 Charles Haze/ ATTORNEY Fatented Aug. 23, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a paperhangers table attachment and more especially to a wall paper roll hanger and cutter attachment for paste tables.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an attachment of this character, wherein the same is adapted for arrangement at one end of a paperhangers paste table for supporting a roll of wall paper so that the paper can. be conveniently unwound from the roll thereof and laid across the top of the table for the application of paste thereto and thereafter the cutting of such paper into the desired length and thus assuring the convenient handling of the same.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an attachment of this character, which is extremely simple. in its construction, readily and easily handled for association with a paste table used by paperhangers, reliable and efficient in operation, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the attachment constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary front elevation of a paste table showing the attachment in vertical section on the line 2--2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows and arranged associated with said table.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several-views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a portion of a paste table for use by paperhangers in applying paste to Wall paper and B a roll of wall paper while C is the attachment constituting the present invention and hereinafter fully described.
The attachment comprises a stand in the form of a rack and involves a base 5 from which rise spaced uprights 6 and 6 carrying at their upper ends a stationary cutter blade I which is horizontally disposed and at an elevation so that its uppermost face will be in the same plane or flush with the upper face of the top 8 of the table A.
The foremost upright 6' next to the blade I is provided with an inset 9 while pivoted to the innermost end at Ill is the innermost end of a movable cutter blade II which at its outermost end is provided with a hand grip l2 extended forwardly beyond the front end of the blade 1 while upstanding from the said blade "I is a combined guide and rest I3 for the movable blade II which coacts with the said blade I for the. severing or cutting of the paper when unwound from the roll B into the desired length for the pasting of the paper on a wall in accordance with the size thereof.
The uprights 6 and 6' are fitted with horizontally arranged journaling pegs M which are spaced from each other the required distance and arranged opposite to one another so that the roll B can be journaled thereon and rotatably held between the uprights 6 and 6' to allow of theunwinding of the paper and the training of the same upwardly and over the blade I and the top 8 of the table A in. proper fashion for the application of paste to such paper when resting upon the top of the said table. The movable blade II is normally at rest upon the guide Hi to be elevated the required distance from the blade 1 for the free passage of the paper between these blades and the training of a determined length of such paper over the top 8 of the table A. When a determined length of paper has been pulled from the roll B and trained in a manner as before stated such paper can be cut by the lowering of the movable knife. II and its coaction with the blade 1, the paste being applied to the paper in the usual well-known manner when supported by the table A. The inset 9 in the upright 6' affords a clearance for an operator to handle the paper when unwound from the roll B for the training thereof over the blade I and onto the. top 8 of the table A.
The blade I of the cutter involving the movable blade II is made fast to the uprights 6 and 6' by brackets IS. The attachment is held in close relation to one end of the table A and fixed thereto by a suitable attaching device l6 although it may be independent of the table and supported next thereto from a foundation or floor supporting said table.
What is claimed is:
An attachment for a paperhangers table having a top comprising a base strip, uprights fixed to and rising vertically from said strip, an. inset in one of the uprights at the upper portion thereof, pegs fitting said uprights and constituting opposed journals for wall paper rolls, a stationary cutting blade fixed to the upper ends of said uprights and overhanging the inset portion of one of the same, a movable blade connected with the stationary blade and operating vertically for cooperative cutting action therebetween, and an attaching bracket fixed to the stationary blade at the connection of the movable blade therewith for separable attachment with the table top for the holding of said blades in juxtaposition to the top with the lower stationary blade substantially flush with the said top.
