DISPENSING DEVICE Filed July 7. 1937 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Inventor M am A iiorn eys Aug. 2, 1938. E. A. GAY
DISPENSING DEVICE Filed July 7, 1937 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Aii0rneus Patented Aug. 2, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to a dispensing device for use in connection with containers and aims to provide a construction which is simple, inexpensive to manufacture, thoroughly eflicient and reliable in use and operation, easy to manipulate and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the cap structure, the ends of the arms being shown in section.
Figure 5 is an end elevation thereof looking from left to right as compared to Figure 4.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a container with an outlet opening 6. The letter A denotes my device which is secured to the container 5 integrally, permanently or otherwise and comprises a neck body I with a spout extension 8. The neck body 1 has a bore 9 communicating with bore I I] of the spout extension. In the preferred embodiment of the invention the axis of the bore I 0 is oblique to that of the bore 9. This is not of the essence of the invention. The juncture of the body I with the spout 8 is provided with oppositely disposed side slots l2 which are substantially V-shaped in formation having longer upper legs a and shorter lower legs 17 thereby providing a hump c.
A cap is denoted generally by the letter C and is constructed of a material having a certain amount of elasticity such as a semi-hard rubber or the like and it consists of a general U-shape in formation to provide a cross orbight portion 20 with parallel spaced coextensive leg portions 2| the terminals of which are provided with openings 22. A rod such as a rivet or the like 23 extends through these openings 22 which are part of the V-shaped slots 0, and b and through the corresponding opening in the neck or head I. The cross portion 20 has an inwardly disposed plug part 25.
About this plug 25 may be disposed a gasket 26 or the like but this is not essential to the invention.
Now with the part shown in Figure 3 it will be seen that because of the elastic material of the element C the pin 21 may be forced over the hump c and then the cap may be moved outwardly to open position and when moved to this position it may be swung downwardly to the dotted line position in Figure 2 and then may be pushed inwardly so that the pin may be caught in the crotch of the shorter leg b in order that the contents of the container may be dispensed.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility, manipulation and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. 30
Having described my invention what I claim as new is:-
In combination, a container, a dispensing cap on the container communicating therewith and having a bore extending therethrough with an outlet, a closure for the outlet, means for mounting the closure whereby the same may be disposed in closed or open position, said closure being of yieldable material and comprising a U- shaped construction with a pair of legs and a cross member, the cross member having the plug protrudable into the mouth of the outlet, the legs having a pin extending across the body of the cap into a V-shaped slot.
