BUCKLE AND "LIKE ORNAMENT FOR PERSONAL WEA R- Filed March 19, 1937 INVENTOR ALBERT JAN EPPINK ATTORNEYS Patented July 12, 1938 UNITED TES PATENT OFFIE BUCKLE AND LIKE ORNAMENT FOR PERSONAL WEAR Albert Jan Eppink, Amersfoort, Netherlands 2 Claims.
This invention relates to buckles and like dress fastenings or ornaments for personal wear.
Buckles or dress ornaments of this character are frequently made in two or more different materials or difierently coloured materials. For
example an ornament may have a centre or mounting attached to a base or rim of a diiferent colour or made of different material.
According to the invention a buckle or dress ornament of this character is provided with an interchangeable centre or mounting which enables the user or retailer to make up any combination of colours or materials from a stock consisting of a range of centres or mounting and a range of base or rim parts. It will be appreciated that the interchangeability of the centres or mountings enables a large variety of combinations of colours and materials to be supplied from a very much smaller stock than would be necessary if each combination had to be stocked separately as usual.
The invention will be better understood from the following description with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:-
Figure l is a front elevation of a slide or buckle constructed according to the invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the same and Figures 3 and 4 are views showing respectively the two parts of the device detached from one another.
In the drawing the reference letter (1 indicates the main body or base of the slide or buckle which consists of a disc or plate formed with two parallel slots b to receive the belt material.
The reference letter 0 indicates the detachable ornamental mounting secured to the front face of the main body or base a. The ornamental mounting c is attached to the base a by means of pins d fixed to the part c and engaging in holes 6 formed in the base a. The fit of the pins d in the holes e is such that the part 0 can be easily detached from the part a.
The ornamental mounting c has slots ,f similar to the slots b formed in the base so that both the ornamental mounting and the base have a central bar 9 formed of the material between the slots. When the belt material is attached to the buckle in the usual manner by passing the belt material around the central bar, the base and mounting will be held together by the belt material. The belt material may be relied upon entirely to hold the two parts of the buckle together when in use. It is preferred, however, to fit one of the parts with locating pins d adapted to engage holes e in the other part as hereinbefore described so as to hold the ornamental mounting in proper position on the base. The pins and holes are preferably provided on the central bar as shown so that they will be covered by the belt material when the latter is attached to the central bar.
The base part a may be made of any number of different or differently coloured materials and any number of differently coloured mountings c all of which are interchangeable may be provided. It will be appreciated that the interchangeability of the mounting 0 enables a large variety of combinations ofcolours and materials to be supplied from a very much smaller stock than would be necessary if each combination had to be stocked separately as usual.
I claim:
1. A slide or buckle made in two different colours or materials comprising a base formed with two slots providing a central bar for the attachment of the belt material and an interchangeable ornamental mounting similarly slotted and having a central bar adapted to overlie the central bar of the base part so that the base and ornamental mounting are held together by the attachment of the belt material around the central bars.
2. A slide or buckle as claimed in claim 1 wherein the ornamental mounting is located on the base part by means of pins on one part engaging in holes provided in the other part.
ALBERT JAN EPPINK.
