Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 211,136, dated January 7, 1879; application filed September 21, 1878. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE W. DEMOND and LOUIS DEMOND, both of the city of Brook, lyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chimney-Tops and Ventilators, which we propose to call the Cottage Chimney-Top and Ventilator, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a vertical section through the center of our chimney-top and ventilator. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the line 00 w.
A is the body of our improved chimney-top and ventilator, which has parallel sides, and is provided with slots 13, having their edges turned outward, forming flanges b, to strength en it and to sheer the wind. Guards 0 are at- -tached by their lower ends to the outside of the base, and have their edges turned out ward, forming flanges d, to give to them greater strength and to sheer the wind. The upper ends of the guards are turned inward and attached to the top of the body A. The corners of the body A extend upward, forming four pillars or supports, D, upon which rests the top E. Said top is conical in form, its largest part extending outward over the sides of the guards, and its lower end is contracted, and rests upon the supports D, leaving an open space through between its lower end and the top of the body A, to allow the wind a free circulation through.
Our invention consists of the body A, having parallel sides, and provided with slots B, having flanged edges; also, the guards O, having flanged edges, and the conical top E, contracted at its lower end, and resting upon the supports D, leaving a passage or space between it and the top of the body A.
