adapted to be'moistened and placed upon the perforated face of the envelope inside of said flap when folded.

A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 represents an inside plan view of the -The outer wrapper or encasing sheet 'I of the pad is shown as comprising ,a once folded sheet of impervious material to form a double portion, such wrapper or encasing sheet being, for instance, of parchment paper, foil, or the like.

The envelope or heat producing chemical pack 2 which contains the exothermic material 3, such for instance as calcium oxid in powdered form, is adapted to have its outer surface perforated as shown at 4, immediately before the pad is to be used. This envelope is also of impervious material, such for instance as metal foil.

An impervious relatively narrow layer or backing strip 5 is interposed between the said wrapper or encasing sheet I and the envelope or pack 2, said impervious layer or strip having a portion thereof extended in one direction beyond the folded edge of the outer wrapper or encasing sheet I to form a flap 6 which is adapted to be folded over to cover the outer surface of said envelope or pack 2. This layer or strip 5 is extended in the opposite direction to secure the two folds of the wrapper I together and serves as a lining for the outer wrapper I beyond the envelope. This layer or strip 5 and its flap 6 is of some suitable impervious material, such for instance as metal foil.

A sheet or flap I of absorbent material, such as a flannel cloth, or the like, is attached to the, outer wrapper or encasing sheet I inside of the impervious sheet or strip 5 in position to be moistened'and folded over onto the outer surface of the envelope or pack 2 after the said outer surface has been perforated. After the moistened flap has been folded over onto the 10 perforated outer surface of the envelope or pack 2 the flap '6 of the interposed layer or backing strip 5 may be folded over onto the moistened flap I. This flap 6 may, if so desired, be perforated as shown at 8 in Fig. 2 at the same time as the .outersurface of the envelope or pack 2 is perforated, to permit a more direct actionv of the heat upon the pre-form ed tress when the pad is in use.

It will be understood that the impervious layer or backing strip 5 is suitably adhered to the wrapper or encasing sheet I and that theenvelope or pack 2 is-suitably adhered to the said impervious layer or backing strip.

In the present instance one of the edges of the envelope or pack is coincident with the corresponding edge of the intermediate sheet or backing strip 5 and the coincident edge of the outer wrapper or encasing sheet I.

In practice, the pre-formed tress of hair, not shown herein, may be moistened, either before or after it is pre-formed, with a suitable hair waving solution. The outer surface of the chemical containing envelope or pack 2 is perforated as shown at 4. The absorbent sheet I is then moistened with water or a suitable hair waving solution and placed upon the perforated outer surface of the envelope or pack 2. The flap 5 of the layer or strip 5 is then folded over onto the moistened flap. The pad is then ready to be wrapped around the pre-formed tress.

It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to be limited to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, but what I claim is:

1. In a pad for permanent waving of hair,

coincident with one of the edges of said folded sheet, said sheet of metal foil extending at one end beyond the folded edge of the wrapper, a relatively small sheet of absorbent material adapted to hold a solution secured to said folded sheet and extending outwardly therefrom, and a heat producing chemical pack disposed on said metal foil strip with one of its edges coincident with the coincident edges of said first mentioned sheets.

2. In a pad for the permanent waving of hair, an impervious outer wrapper, an impervious backing strip adhered thereto, an exothermic material containing impervious envelope adhered to the backing strip and adapted to have its outer surface perforated before use, and an absorbent flap projecting from the wrapper and adapted to be moistened and folded over onto the outer perforated surface of the envelope, said backing strip being extended to form a flap adapted to be folded over onto the moistened sheet.

In a pad for the permanent waving of hair, an impervious outer wrapper, an impervious backing strip adhered thereto, an exothermic material containing impervious envelope adhered to the backing strip and adapted to have its outer surface perforated before use, and an absorbent flap projecting from the wrapper and adapted to be moistened and folded over onto the outer perforated surface of the envelope, said backing strip being extended in one direction to form a flap adapted to be folded over onto the moistened sheet and extended in the opposite direction to form a lining for the wrapper beyond the envelope.

4. In a pad for the permanent waving of hair,

a paper wrapper, a metal foil backing strip adhered thereto, an exothermic material containing metal foil envelope adhered to the backing strip and adapted to have its outer surface perforated before use, and an absorbent flap projecting from the wrapper and adapted to be moistened and folded over onto the perforated surface of the envelope, said backing strip being extended to form a flap adapted to be folded over onto the moistened sheet.
