COMBINATION DENTIFRICE DISPENSER AND TOOTH BRUSH HOLDER Filed Aug. 6, 1956 Herbert Jczcaby ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 30, 1937 PATENT O FFICE COIVIBINATION DENTIFRICE DISPENSER- AND TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER Herbert Jacoby, Croton-on-Hudson, N. Y.
Application August 6, 1936, Serial No. 94,680
3 Claims.
The present invention relates to a combination dentifrice dispenser and toothbrush holder.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a toothbrush holder which will maintain the toothbrush in a sanitary condition when not in use and may also be associated with a specially tion with the accompanying drawing which forms part of the application.
In the drawing: Fig. l is a perspective view of the toothbrush holder detached from the dispensing device and illustrating a toothbrush in phantom.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a dentifrice container and illustrating the dispensing device attached thereto.
Fig. 3 is a fragmenary sectional view illustrating the toothbrush holder associated with the dispenser and receiving a quantity of the dentii'rice; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3 with the valve mechanism in closed position.
Referring to the drawing for a more detailed description thereof, the numeral 5 indicates a dentifricecontainer and, for purposes of illustration, said container is illustrated as being a can, normally used for containing dentifrice powder, but it is to be understood that the dispenser may be used with collapsible tubes or other containers. The container 5 is provided with the usual restricted discharge outlet 6 to which the dispensing device I is attached in any desired manner. The dispenser 1 is preferably channel shaped providing a trackway 8 for a purpose to be hereinafter described. A valve controlled slot 9 is provided in the central-portion of the dispenser I and said opening is' fcontrolled by means of the spring actuated slidevalve' ill, whichvalve includes the spring ll fo'ririornrally-retainingthe.v valve in closed position. Itfis readily apparent that pressure on the'jang'le It moves the valve inwardly. soas to align its opening IS with the opening 9. I
The dispenser I is especially constructed so as to be used in combination with a toothbrush holder of the form illustrated in Fig. ,l of the drawing. The toothbrush holder indicated generally by the numeral I 4 includes .a base l5 having a slot l6 corresponding to the slots 9 and I3. Extending upwardly from the base I5 are a pair of members I! constructed preferably of a metal that is readily flexible. The upper ends of the member" are bent in opposite directions to provide channels I 8 adapted to receive thebristle supporting back I!) of a toothbrush 20, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawing; The memher I! is formed "oi-flexible material so as to adapt the holder for various sized toothbrushes, it being readily understood that the members will expand'or contract during the insertion of a toothbrush. If desired, the outer end 2| of the holder I4 may be closed to aid in maintaining the supported toothbrush in a sanitary condition.
In the use of the herein described device, the holder i4 isnormally disassociated from the dispenser I and supports therein toothbrush 20. When desiring to use the toothbrush, the base l5 of the holder l4 slides within the channel 8 of the dispenser l, at which time the container 5 is preferably in an inverted position. Actuation of the slide valve I 0 aligns the openings, 9, l3 and I6, respectively, whereupon the dentifrice is applied to the "bristles of the toothbrush in an even manner and without undue waste thereof. The toothbrush is thenremoved from its holder M and used in the usual manner for cleaning the teeth. After use the brush is placed within the holder l4 and said holder is then removed from the dispenser l and placed on a suitable supporting rack or the like.
From the above description it will be readily apparent that an individual holder'may be furnished for each separate toothbrush and when used with the dispenser attached to the dentifrice container an even distribution of the dentifrice over the bristles of the toothbrush will beobtained without waste of the material.
Itis to be understood that this improvement is capable of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor-to the precise construction described and, therefore,
such changes and modifications may be made a slotted base slidable in said flanged edges and flexible side portions having flanged edges for frictionally engaging the toothbrush head.v
3. In combination with a dentifrice container, dispensing means attached to said container, said means including a member having upturned flanged edges and a discharge slot therein, a holder for supporting a toothbrush, said holder having a slotted base slidable in said flanged edges, and slide valve means carried by said dispenser for controlling discharge of the content of said container onto the toothbrush.
