Apparatus for the manufacture yof iiltery tip cigarettes, comprising an intermittently moving conveyor, suction means on said conveyor for positioning assemblages of lengths of cigaretterod and of mouthpiece filling, means for feeding the assemblages to the said suction means, mechanism for bringing previously pasted uniting bands into contact with the assemblages'positioned on the said conveyor, means acting in a direction approximately perpendicular to the axis of each assemblage to wrap the uniting band substantially half roundthe same, a second intermitte'ntlyl moving conveyor arranged to receive the assemblages With'the uniting band partly Wrapped therearound, and an axially movable Wrapping device arranged to moveaxially along each assemblage While said second conveyoris stationary to complete the `wrapping of the uniting band around the assemblage.

Apparatus as claimed in claim 5, `wherein the Wrapping device comprises folding members operating to wrap the uniting band around the assemblage in either directionv of movement of thewrapping device, the movement of the wrap- Vvping device in relation to one assemblage being opposite to the movement in relation to a preceding assemblage.

Apparatus for the manufacture of filter tip cigarettes comprising a continuously moving Wrapping conveyor, a continuously moving conveyor by which assemblages of lengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpiece filling are fed to said continuously moving Wrapping conveyor, means for bringing previously pasted uniting bands into contact with the said assemblages whileV carried on saidrst continuously moving conveyor, means acting to wrap uniting bands partially around the assemblages, means for positioning kthe assemblages on said wrapping ,conveyon an axially moving Wrapping device associated with each oi said positioning means, and mechanism for eec'ting axial movement of the Wraping devices during the continuous movementof the said wrapping conveyor.
8. Apparatus as claimed in claim 7, wherein the Wraping conveyor is of cylindrical formation, and said mechanism comprises a. xedly mounted cylindrical member provided With a cam groove, and means cooperating With said groove for effecting the movement or" said axially moving wrapping device. f p

A method for the manufacture of lter tip cigarettes by uniting lengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpiece iilling by means of external bands, comprising depositing an assemblage of aligned lengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpiece lling on 'a conveyor, displacing said conveyor for carrying the assemblage laterally, and displacing a Wrapping device axially along saidv assemblage, While on lsaid conveyor, to wrap a uniting band about the assemblage.y f

A method for the manufacture of lfiltertip cigarettes by uniting lengths of cigarette rodl and of mouthpiece iilling by means of external bands, comprising depositing an assemblage of aligned lengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpiece filling on a conveyor for carrying the same laterally, intermittently displacing said conveyor for carrying the assemblage laterally, and, while the conveyor is stationary between intermittent displacements thereof, displacing a wrapping device axially along said assemblage, While on said conveyor, to wrap a uniting band about the assemblage 11. A method for the manufacture off filter tip cigarettes by uniting lengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpiece filling by means of external bands, comprising effectingl a relative displacement between la Wrapping device and an assemblage of axially aligned lengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpieoeiilling in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the assemblage to partially Wrap al uniting band about said assemblage, depositing said partially wrapped assemblage on a conveyor, displacing said conveyor for carrying the partially wrapped assemblage laterally, and displacing a Wrapping device axially along said assemblage, 4while on said conveyor, to Wrap the uniting band about the assemblage.

A method for the manufacture of filter tip cigarettes by uniting lengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpiece lilling by means of external bands, comprising holding an assemblage of aligned lengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpiece filling, conveying said assemblage laterally to a Wrapping zone, and Wrapping a uniting band around the assemblage, while so held, and While in the Wrapping Zone, by the application of external lateral pressure progressively along said assemblage to close the uniting band around it.

A method for the manufacture of filter tip cigarettes by uniting lengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpiece filling by means of external bands, comprising holdingan assemblage yof aligned lengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpiece filling, intermittently conveying said assemblage laterally through a wrapping zone, and wrapping a. uniting band around the assemblage, while so held, and while in said Wrapping zone, during an interval in the conveying, by the application of external lateral pressure progressively along said assemblage tof'close the unitingband around it.

A method for the manufacture of iilter tip cigarettes by uniting lengths of cigarette rod and 'of mouthpiece filling by means of external bands, comprising holding an assemblage of alignedlengths of cigarette rod and of mouthpiece filling, conveying said yassemblage laterally through a Wrapping zone, and Wrapping a uniting band around the assemblage, While so held and during lateral conveying thereof through said Wrapping zone, by the application of external lateral pressure progressively along said assemblage to close the uniting band around it.
