A TTORNEYS.
Patented Mar. 12, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
With the foregoing and other objects in View,
which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described, may be made Within the scope of what is claimed, Zvithout departing from the spirit of the invenion.
Referring to the drawing: Figure 1 is an elevational view of a combined toothpick holder and dispenser constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the holder taken on line 2-2 of Figure 3.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the holder. Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figiue 1.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view dis closing. the holder as dispensing a toothpick.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the body portion of the holder which is indicated generally by the reference character 5 is cylindrical in formation, the inner surface of the wall thereof being provided with a plurality of longitudinally disposed spacedgrooves or channels 6 extending throughout substantially the entire length of the body portion. As shown, the lower ends of the grooves or channels 6, are closed as at I, so that the toothpicks will not fall therefrom when the holder is placed in an upright position on a supporting surface.
The reference character 8 designates the removable cap which fits over the lower end of the body portion, closing the lower end thereof, and forming the bottom of the holder.
At the upper end of the body portion is a disk 9 which is of a diameter to fit within the body portion where it is secured in any suitable and 10 well known manner.
The periphery of the disk 9 is disposed adjacent to the open ends of the grooves or channels 6 so that when the holder is tipped to its dispensing position, or to the position as shown by Figure 5 5 of the drawing, only one toothpick will be discharged through the open end of the groove or channel 6 which is at the lower side of the body portion, a toothpickbeing indicated by the reference character A. no
In view of the fact that the groovesor channels A 6 are of widths to permit only one toothpick to pass thereinto at, a single operation it is therefore impossible for the person removing a toothpick, to touch the contents of the body portion, thereby insuring the toothpicks being maintained in a sanitary condition at all times.
I claim:
A toothpick holder comprising a body portion having spaced longitudinally disposed grooves 30 formed in the inner surface thereof, a closure for closing one end of the body portion, a disk fitted within the opposite end of the body portion and contacting with the body portion at points, between said grooves, leaving one end of each groove open to discharge toothpicks therethrough, and said grooves being in communication with the interior of the body portion to receive toothpicks therefrom.
