FOLDER Filed March 8, 1939 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 ADVERT5MENT fin" Inventor DONALD E. G/L so/v,
A tiomeys 1 Patented Jan. 16, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 6 Claims.
This invention appertains to a folder.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a folder in the nature of a calendar or booklet constructed in such a manner that advertising matter will be visible at all times as the pages are turned.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a folder wherein an advertising space is afforded and left undisturbed as the pages are turned with the object in view of always having the advertisement visible to the article user.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:
Figure lrepresents a perspective view of the article in open position.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of the article in open position.
Figure 3 is a plan view of one of the sheets.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the sheets partly folded to form the leaves.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective View of a slightly modified form of the invention.
Figure 6 is a plan View of one of the sheets constructed in accordance with the invention as shown in Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a plan view of another modification.
Figure 8 is an edge elevational view of the sheet shown in Figure '7 partly folded.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5' represents the backing or cover for the calendar, booklet or other article. In the form of the invention shown in Figure 1, the central portion of the sheet 6 which forms two leaves is formed at one side of the fold line I with a semi-circular slit 8, while at the opposite side of the fold line I is the semi-circular slit 9 which has a smaller radius than the arc of the slit 8 so that while the ends of the slit 9 terminate on the fold line I as to the terminals of the slit 8 they are spaced apart to form the connecting portions IIJI0. Thus flaps II and I2 are formed and each has an opening l3.
The sheets 6 are placed against the back or cover 5 with the flaps ll superimposed on each other as are the flaps l2 on themselves and these piled flaps are secured'by a rivet or other securing means M to the back 5. Thus the area 15 made up of the flaps H and I2 represents an advertising area on which advertising indicia can be placed, and this being permanently secured to the back or cover 5 is never disturbed as the leaves are turned. Thus at all times the advertising data are before the user of the article.
As shown in Figure 5 the back is denoted by numeral 16 and the sheets by numeral H and the flaps l8 and 19 are formed in substantially the same manner excepting that the slits are right angularly disposed and opposed as shown in Figure 6 instead of being semi-circular as shown in the form illustrated in Figure 3. These flaps I8 and 19 are likewise riveted or otherwise secured as at 2D to the back l6 and the area 21 defined by these flaps is intended to contain advertising matter.
The third form of the invention is shown in Figure '7, with numerals 22 representing the sheets forming two leaves by being folded on the fold line 23. Ushaped slits 24 of different internal areas define the flaps 25 and 26 and each has an opening through which suitable securing means can be disposed for permanently securing the sheet by its flaps 25 and 2b to a backing (not shown).
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the claimed as new is:
1. An article of manufacture comprising a back and one or more sheets connected thereto, each such sheets being folded at its intermediate portion, each of said sheets being slitted at each side of its fold line with non-registering slits to define a pair of flaps and means connecting the flaps to the back.
2. An article of manufacture comprising a back, having a hinge line, a plurality of sheets each having a fold line opposed to the hinge line of the back, each of the sheets being struck out at each side of its fold line to provide a flap and an opening with said fiaps having connecting portions, and means securing the fiaps at each side of the fold lines to the back in piled formation, the opposed sides of the flaps of the innermost sheet bearing indicia, said openings serving as windows through which the indicia on said last mentioned flaps are visible as the sheets are turned.
3. An article of manufacture comprising a back, a plurality of sheets in piled relation and having fold lines, flaps struck out from the sheets, one at each side of the fold line of each sheet invention, what is with said flaps having connecting portions, indicia on the outermost pair of flaps, said flaps at each side of the fold lines being permanently secured to the back.
4. An article of manufacture comprising a back, a plurality of sheets in piled relation and having fold lines, flaps with connecting portions struck out from the sheets, one at each side of the fold line of each sheet, indicia on the outermost flaps, said flaps at each side of the fold lines being permanently secured to the back, the struck-out flaps defining windows in the sheet through which the indicia on the flaps is visible as the sheets are turned.
5. An article of manufacture comprising a. back, a plurality of sheets in piled relationand each having respective single fold lines, opposed flaps struck out from each sheet, one at each side of the fold line of each sheet, intelligence data on the outermost flaps oi the pile, said flaps being permanently secured to the back, the flaps at one side of the fold lines being narrower than the flaps at the other side of the fold lines to leave connecting links between the flaps and the remaining sheet portions.
6. An article of manufacture comprising a back, a plurality of sheets in piled relation and having fold lines, flaps with connecting portions struck out from the sheets, one at each side of the fold line of each sheet, indicia on the outermost flap, said flaps being permanently secured to the back, the flaps at one side of the fold lines being of narrower gauge than the flaps at the other side of the fold lines to leave said connecting portions.
