CHARLES A. BROOKS, OF LENOX, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRACE-SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 218,703, dated August 19, 1879 application filed July 21, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. BRooKs, of Lenox, Taylor county, State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improved Trace- Support, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to construct a strong and compact brace-support for harness, an object which I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im-' proved brace-support; and Fig. 2, a sectional View of the same.
A represents one of the ends of the back or saddle strap, to which, some distance from the bottom, is secured, by one or more rivets a, the metal loop B, the latter having the usual opening for the reception of the trace, and being provided at each end with an eye, I). D represents one end of the belly-band strap, which passes first through the lower eye b, thence around and in contact with the outer portion of the body of the loop B, and thence through the upper eye b, above which, as well as below the lower eye, it is firmly stitched to the back or saddle strap. The band D thus serves to aid in securing the loop B to the strap A, and to prevent any movement of the loop independently of the strap.
The metal loop is more durable than a leather loop, and causes less wear on the trace, owing to the fact that smooth metal surfaces are presented to the trace, so that the rubbing of the latter causes but little friction.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the back-strap A, the loop B having eyes b b, and the band D, embracing the loop, and adapted to theeyes b b, and secured to the strap A above and below the loop, as set forth.
In testimony whereof Ihave signed my name to this specification in the presence of-two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES A. BROOKS. Witnesses:
CHARLES G. B. RYDER, BAYARD O. RYDER.
