OFFICE 6 Claims.
This invention relates to a device for use by dressmakers and tailors. More particularly, it relates to a novel device used for mounting cutting means such as a pair of scissors for trimming or levelling the bottom of garments, such as skirts, dresses and coats fitted onto a form.
One object of this invention generally is to provide apparatus of the character hereinafter described which can be easily assembled and angle rod l8, provided with a plurality of spaced horizontal peripheral grooves I9 for a detent 20. Said detent is provided with a cushion spring 2| mounted in a casing 22 fixed to sleeve Hi. It is to be noted that detent is disposed in alignmounted and which can be easily operated for ment with side arm [5 but on the other side 10 accurately trimming or levelling the bottom porof sleeve IS. The lower end of sleeve [6 is closed 'tion of garments when fitted onto proper forms and provided with a plug for supporting rod I8. provided for such garments. The other end 23 of angle rod I8 is provided with Another object of the present invention is to a sleeve 24 fixed perpendicularly thereto, as shown provide novel apparatus with a double swiveling in Fig. 1, for accommodating a supporting rod 41. action and which can be easily adjusted to any of a pair of scissors 26. In order to prevent the desirable height and cutting position for the trimpair of scissors from being lost when moving the ming or levelling of the bottom of garments such device about, a set screw 21 extending from sleeve as dresses and the like. 24 into spaced peripheral horizontal grooves 28 Other objects and advantages of the invention on rod 25 to retain the pair of scissors in place. a will become apparent from the description there- In the use of the invention, it is to be noted of hereinafter following. that member I 4 may be raised to any desirable The invention generally contemplates the conheight whereby the pair of scissors 26 is located struction and combination of elements and relaat the proper heig t as s O in 3, o out tive arrangements of adjustable and cooperative the lower portion of a skirt 29 m t on 35 parts which will be described more in detail hereconventional dress form 30 as shown. Said sleeve inafter, member 14 is retained in fixed position by means In the accompanying drawing, showing a preof setscrew I3 on collar l3 of sleeve 12. Furtherferred embodiment of my invention, more, scissors 26 can be swiveled in any position Fig. 1 is an elevation partly in section, showing around the garm to e y merely turning 80 t device ready for the same on its rotating axis on rod 25. The Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1, and, sCissOrs a so may be swung around on support- Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a dress form ing sleeve l6 through ree hu d d a ty as used having a skirt thereon and the embodidegrees thus givin rise o a double rotating oment applied to the bottom of the skirt for shortt about the v a y d sp s d stanchion ll enmg the same on pedestal I0 and about supporting sleeve l6.
Referring in detail to the drawing in which The present invention finds wide application in similar reference characters refer to like parts q y trimming or cutting s y Woven matethroughout, a base or pedestal I0 is provided, rial 011 a q a t ty basis, a o pa ed with outhaving a stanchion l I, extending upwardly thereting devices heretofore used. from, of any desirable height. Adapted to fit It is to be noted that while one preferred emon said stanchion is a telescopic sleeve member bodiment of the invention has been described in or cylinder l2, one end of which is provided with connection With the p y g drawing, a collar l3 having a set screw member l3 theremodifications as form, arrangement of p s in for 'regulably controlling the height to which and use Of materials y e made Without desleeve [2 may be raised and fixed in position on parting from the spirit and scope of the invenstanchion ll. Said sleeve 12 forms a tight fit on tion as claimed herein. the stanchion and is adjustable to any position I claim: thereon without rendering the stanchion top- 1. A device of the character described comheavy when in use. prising a pedestal, a stanchion extending verti- Vertically mounted on said sleeve I 2 is another cally of the pedestal, a telescopic member slidable hollow telescopic member I4 preferably of the on said stanchion having a horizontal arm persame length as said sleeve. It is to be noted that pendicularly extending therefrom and a carrying said member I4 is adapted to be carried by sleeve member vertically extending from said arm, a I2 and rests on collar 13. Also, said member bent swivel member adapted to fitinthe carrying member and rotated thereat as a center of gyration, and a hollow shaft fixed perpendicularly to the swivel member for carrying a pair of scissors therein in a horizontal position adapted to be rotated thereat.
2. A device for use in levelling and trimming the lower part of garments, comprising a pedestal, a stanchion fixed vertically to the pedestal, a slidable sleeve member mounted on said stanchion and adapted to be adjusted thereon, a telescopic member mounted on said sleeve member having a horizontal arm extending therefrom and a tubular supporting member fixed to the arm and parallel with the telescopic member, and a right angled member for said supporting member adapted to be swiveled thereabout, for carrying scissors thereon adapted to be rotated thereon.
3. A device according to claim 2, in which the slidable member is provided with a collar for adjusting the member on the stanchion, and the telescopic member rests on said collar adapted to be raised thereby without rendering the stanchion top-heavy.
4. A combination support and scissors, comprising a pedestal, a slidably adjustable tubular member on said pedestal, manually operable means for fixing said member on said pedestal, a supporting arm horizontally extending from the member, disposed adjacent one end of the member, an angular member in connection with the supporting arm adapted to be rotated thereabout through 360 degrees, and a pair of horizontally disposed scissors provided with vertically disposed means for connection with the angular member, adapted to be swiveled therein, said scissors being adapted to have a double swiveling motion about said supporting arm and the vertically disposed means.
5. A device for cutting the bottom of garments having in combination with a pair of scissors, a
pedestal, a stanchion vertically extending there from, a slidably adjustable telescopic member on said stanchion, a horizontally disposed arm extending from one end of the member having a tubular supporting member integral therewith, an angular member having a terminal portion accommodated by the tubular supporting member to permit rotation therein in a vertical plane, and a tubular member rigidly fixed perpendicularly to the other end of the angular member, disposed parallel with the supporting member, and tensioned means in the supporting member for retaining the angular member, said tubular member being adapted to retain the pair of scissors in a horizontal rotatable operative position.
6. A device for levelling the bottom of garments, comprising a movable pedestal, a stanchion extending vertically upward from the pedestal, a telescopic member adjustably slidable along the length of the stanchion, means on the lower portion of the telescopic member for fixing the same in any relative position on the stanchion, a sleeve slidably mounted on the member adapted to be raised thereby to any desired height on the stanchion without rendering the same topheavy, said sleeve having rigidly fixed thereto at its upper end a horizontally extending arm with a vertical supporting member disposed in spaced parallel relation with the stanchion, an angular member having a terminal portion rotatably fixed in the supporting member and a tubular, vertically disposed member at its other terminal portion for supporting a shaft of a horizontally disposed pair of scissors therein, and means on the tubular member for retaining the shaft in position therein, said shafts and angular member being adapted to be rotated in simultaneous spaced relation around the stanchion.
