SLIDE-COVER CONTAINER Ferdinand W. Nitardy', Brooklyn, N. Y., assignor to E. BfSquibb & Sons,
poration of New York Application May 26, 1934,
New York, N. Y., a cor- Serial No. 127,800 y '1 Claims. '(01. zoo-42).
. This invention relates to slide-cover containers for tablets and the like.
Slide-cover containers of the types hitherto known have readily admitted dirt to theirinterior, especially when carried, as is customary,
in the vest-pocket or in a handbag, and the re' sulting unsightliness, or even contamination, of the contents, particularly when they have been white tablets, has been objectionable.
An object of this invention is to provide a slidecover containerof such construction that the access of dirt to the contents will be minimized. -A further object is to provide means whereby only a limited portion of the contents will be dispensed 5 at a time. Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description.
In the container of this invention at least one I of the end walls of 'the body has a horizontal flange, extending'either outwardly or inwardly, and the slide cover, when unretracted, is in jux- 3 taposition to, and preferably in substantial contact with, at least part of the flange. Manifestly, this juxtaposition or contact greatly reduces the number of particles likely to find their way into the container and be deposited upon or mingled with the contents. Preferably the container is adapted, by suitable constructionv and arrangement of the body, the flange, "and the cover, to dispense a limited number-say, 3 -one-of the contained articles, as by recessing the cover and/or the flange or forming the body with walls having a more or less acute-angular relation to each other at the dispensing end. Preferably, also, a stop is provided to limit the retraction of the cover to a pre-determined degree;' and a stop may be provided for limiting the closing movement of the cover.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top view of the container-with 40 the cover removed, and Figure 2 is a. corresponding side view; Figure 3 is a top view of the container with the cover unretracted, Figure 4 is a corresponding side view, and Figure 5 is acorresponding bottom view; Figure 6 is a broken top view of the container with the cover re-f Figure 7 is a side view of a modification with the cover unretracted.
v Figure '8 is a top view of another modification with the cover unretracted, and Figure 9 is a corresponding view with the cover retracted.
Figure 10 is a perspective view of the body of still another modification with the cover removed, and Figure 11 is a corresponding top view a with the cover retracted.
4 bodiment illustrated Figure 12 is a top view of yet another modification with the cover retracted, and Figure 13 is a corresponding bottom view.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figures 1 to 6, His the body, with horizontal flanges l6, and I1 is the cover, with, downwardly and inwardly turned slides l8 embracing the bodythebottom of which, may be somewhat raised in the paths of the slides, as at isand stopped in their retraction by knobs 20. A closing stop w may be formed by a fold as at H; and frictional means, such as the slight bosses 22 and 23, may be provided for retaining the cover in closed position.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figure 7, 15 there is a horizontal flange, 24, outwardly extending, only at the'dispensing end; the cover is turned downward at an end to form a closing stop,- as at 25; and, to decrease the possibility of injury therefrom, the flange. edge is hemmed, as at 26, and the cover edge is made to terminate a trifle short of the extremity of the hemmed flange edge, as at 21.-
In the embodiment illustrated'in Figures 8 and 9, the cover is recessed as. at 28, and in the emin Figures 10 and 11, the only horizontal flange, 29, inwardly extending, is recessed as at 30,-so that upon retraction of the cover to the pre-determineddegree fixed by a stop, only one dispensing, as by tilting or otherwise. Obvious- 1y; where the inwardly extending flange is employed, the limited dispensing may also be accomplished by recessing only the cover or by more shallowly recessing both the coverand the flange.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figures 12 and 13, the body 3| is formed of walls 32 and 33, having amore or less acute-angular relation to each other at the dispensing end, so that upon retraction of the octagon'al'cover to the predetermined degree fixed by stops 35, only one tablet is wholly'exposed for dispensing.
It is to be understood that the embodiments above specifically described and illustrated are merely exemplicative and by no means limitative of the invention, which may assume various additional forms--as by assembling the same and/or other structural elements into different combinationswithin the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a container, a body at least one of whose end walls has an outwardly extending flange, and a slide cover in juxtaposition toat least part of the flange, the cover being attachedby means tablet is wholly exposed for 30 of a member contacting the bottom of the body. 2. In a container, a body both oi. whose end walls have outwardly extending. horizontal flanges, and a slide cover. in substantial'contact with at least part of the flanges, the cover being attached by means of a member contacting the bottom of the body. N
3. In a tablet container, a shallow angular body at least-one of whose end walls has a horizontal flange, and a slide cover placed upon the containerand movable endwise thereof and into juxtaposition to at least part of the flange, the cover being recessed so that when it is unretracted its recessed edge lies beyond the body and upon retraction of the cover to a pre-determined degree, only one tablet will be exposed for dispensing. 4 V L 4. In a tablet container a body at least one of whose end walls has a horizontal flange, one
end of the body being adapted for dispensing and a slide cover in juxtaposition to at least part of the flange, the body being formed of walls two of which have an acute-angular relation to each other at the dispensing end so that upon' retraction of the cover to a pre-determined degree, only'one tablet will be wholly exposed for dispensing.
5. In a container, a body at least one of whose end walls has an outwardly extending horizontal flange with an edge hemmed by an underfold, and a slide cover in juxtaposition to at least part of the flange, the cover being attached by means of a member contacting the bottom of the body.
6. Ina container, a body at least one of whose end walls has an outwardly extending horizontal flange with an edge hemmed by an underfold, and aslide cover in juxtaposition to part ofthe flange and terminating short of the extremity of the hemmed flange edge, the cover being attached by means of a member contacting the bottom of the body.
7. A dispensing container for tablets comprising a rectangular body portion of substantially uniform cross section, a slidable cover therefor,
said container being dimensioned to receive a plurality of equal rows of tablets. and hold the.
same from shocking therein, and means for limiting the sliding movement of the cover, saidcover being horizontally cut away at the end to one of the rows to release one tablet only when in open position.
