June 27, 1939. w, P. BRQWN 2,164,105
HAIR 00MB,
Filed Jan. 3, 1959 1 cemo r; williamlarkervwlz I Patented .um 21, 1939 UNITED- STATES PATENT OFFICE nam conm wmimrnknmmmw fumier. Application :um s, ma sei-1n Nn. 249,111 1 cum; (o1. isz-1s) The present invention relates to toilet articles or devices ot a character for personal use, auch as a comb, and consists in the combinations and arrangements of elements hereinafter described arcilm particularly set forth in the accompanying The invention is disclosed by way of illustration in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure l is a side elevational view of the article l0 complete; i
Figure 2 a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, and;
Figure 3 is a like view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1. Figure 4 is a modiiled form oi nail cleaner.
Referring to the construction in further `de tail and wherein like reierence characters designate identical parts in the several figures, the comb is essentially of ordinary construction and comprises a back portion l having the usual rowv of teeth l and at one end 6 is slightly curved and otherwise constructed as shown.
'Ihe end portion 1 is o! appreciable thickness and has a cut-away or sharp. angular portion aS 26 at I which forms a nail cleaning edge or point 9 as clearly illustrated in Figures land 3. It will therefore b e seen that with this arrangement there is provided an ordinary pocket comb with one end shortened, and shapedlike the cleaning 80 end of the ordinary orangewood manicure stick, so that a person has a satisfactory nail cleaner and comb in one instrument.
l A further purpose or refinement in the device contemplates the inclusion ora finger nail ille located on one of the side surfaces of the comb back 4 and said file may have the serrations thereof impressed in the material at the time the article is cast or moulded, provided of course the material is of suillcient hardness. However, quite apart from this the le may be provided by having a suitable recess Il iormed to receive with a close ilt the metallic piece i2 after the manner 5 v shown in Figures l and 2.
manipulation o! the nail cleaning element of the article as will be readily understood. 15
In lieu of having the nail le I2 as shown it may be desirable to have some ling surface made of abrasive material which is adhered to the back of the comb l with some suitable cement, as will be understood. 20
It will be understood the invention as herein disclosed is not limited to the details oi construction shown and described, since these may be varied without departing from the principles of the invention as deilned by the claim.y
. What is claimed as new is: i
An article of the character described comprising, a hair comb having a back portion and rigid members projecting laterally from 'the ends thereof, the comb teeth immediately adjacent one v of said lateral end members being removed to provide an appreciable space for the ngers thereat, said adjacent end member providing a hand gripping part, and the point of said hand gripping part being cut-away to provide further a5 finger gripping space, substantially as set forth.
