REMINDER CARD A Filed April'30, 1938' BEANS BEETS BEEF CARROTS LAMB CORN SAUSAGE LETTUGE MILK ONIONS PARSLEYCREAM PEPPEIBUTTER CABBAGE BREAD INVE OR. fiZ'azs save/z ea);
ATTORNEY.
Patented Apr. 1 8 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
It is an object of the invention to provide a reminder card which may be cheaply manufactured and assembled, consisting of a tablet upon which the names of various articles are shown in vertical rows, a carrier plate mounted upon the tablet between the vertical rows, and pivoted indicating fingers upon the carrier plate each of which is adapted for inward or outward movement in alignment with one of the names of the articles mentioned upon the tablet, whereby attention may be readily drawn to any named article by moving the finger opposite that name to its outward position.
Another object of the invention is to provide such a reminder card wherein the carrier plate is spaced outwardly from the tablet intermediately of its width throughout its height, wherein two vertical rows of horizontal slots are formed through the plate through each of which one of the indicating fingers extends, and to provide a pivot pin extending vertically behind each row of slots on which all the fingers extending through that row of slots are pivoted.
Another object of the invention is to provide such a reminder card wherein the lower extremity of the carrier plate is inturned to form a flange on which the lower extremities of the pivot pins are supported, and to provide a tongue extending from the flange and a second tongue extending from the opposite extremity of the plate both of which pass through openings formed in the tablet and are flexed towards one another behind the latter to hold the carrier plate in position.
A further object of the invention is to provide such a reminder card wherein the peripheral portions of the fingers which project rearwardly through the plate slots are concentric with their pivot pin openings; and wherein these peripheral portions rotate in contact with the face of the tablet against which they are held by the pivot pins which lie against the inner face of the carrier plate.
Having thus briefly stated some of the major objects and advantages of the invention I will now proceed to describe it in detail, in one of its preferred embodiments, with the aid of the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 illustrates a front elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 22 of Figure 1 and Figures 3 and 4 are enlarged sections on the lines 3--3 and 4-4 respectively of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing, l designates a tablet which is intended to be mounted or suspended in a vertical position, as by a hook or projection not shown-passing through the opening 2. In the present instance two vertical carrier plates 3 are mounted parallel and in horizontal alignment upon the tablet l, and suitably spaced from one another. Since the construction of both the carrier plates 3 is identical I will just describe one of them.
The plate 3, which preferably consists of a stamping, is formed with rearwardly disposed vertical margins 4 which bear against the tablet l throughout their entire height. Intermediately of its width the plate 3 throughout its height is flexed to space it from the tablet I. The upper and lower extremities 5 of the plate 3 are inturned towards the tablet l, and terminate in tongues 6 which extend through openings 1 formed through the said tablet. These tongues are folded towards one another behind the tablet as clearly shown in Figure 4, to hold the carrier plate in position.
Formed through the carrier plate 3 are two vertically aligned rows of horizontal slots 8, each row being located adjacent one vertical margin 4 of the plate. Resting upon the lower inturned extremity 5 of the plate 3 are the horizontally flexed ends 9a of vertical hinge pins 9 which are positioned one behind each vertical row of slots 8. l0 denotes indicating fingers one of which projects through each slot 8 and is mounted for rotation upon one of the hinge pins 9. In order to prevent accidental rotation of the fingers l0 upon the pins 9 the peripheral portions of the former which project rearwardly through the slots 8 are made concentric with the hinge pin openings Illa and of such radius that the said peripheral portions turn in contact with the tablet I as clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4:. This relative location is maintained by locating the pin openings Hm so that the pins 9 also rest against the inner face of the carrier plate 3.
Inscribed upon the tablet l opposite each finger I0 is thename of an article which the user may wish to be reminded of. The fingers are intended to be normally positioned as shown at lllc, but if the users attention is to be directed to any of the articles listed, the finger opposite the name of each article required is turned outwardly upon its pivot pin 9 to its position Hid. Thus in the drawing shown the user wishes to remember the following articles: barley, salt, celery, bacon, pork, cheese, bananas, oranges and laundry.
In the reminder card shown, rests I6 integral with the plate 3 extend forwardly from the latter to support opposite extremities of a pencil I1, and a pad N3 of writing sheets is held upon the lower portion of the tablet by means of a pin l9.
From the above description it will be seen that I have devised a very simple form of reminder wherein a substantially flat slotted carrier plate is employed, indicating fingers extend through the plate slots, and the latter are mounted for rotation upon long vertical pivot pins supported at their lower extremities upon an inturned flange integral with the carrier plate and positioned between the latter and the tablet.
While in the foregoing the preferred construction' of the invention has been described and shown, it is understood that alterations and modifications may be made thereto provided the said. alterations and modifications fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A reminder card comprising a tablet, a carrier plate having its upper and lower extremities inwardly flanged, a tongue integral with each flanged extremity and extending through an opening formed in the tablet, said tongues being flexed rearwardly of the tablet to support the plate thereon, said plate being forwardly flexed from the tablet intermediately of its Width throughout its height, said plate having horizontal slots formed therethrough in a vertical row, an apertured indicating finger extending through each slot, and a vertical pivot pin extending between the carrier plate and the tablet and passing through the finger apertures whereby any finger may be moved pivotally upon the pin towards the name of an article written upon the tablet in horizontal alignment with the said finger, the lower extremity of the pivot pin resting upon the inwardly flanged lower extremity of'the carrier plate;
