This invention relates to combination fixtures. and moreparticularly to a combination fixture adapted for use in connection with shower and tub installations or similar spout and spray installations.
This invention is particularly related to an improvement over the combination spout and spray fixture set forth in the Myron J. Glauber Patent No. 1,653,956, granted December 27, 1937.
It is an object of this invention to provide a combination spout and spray fixture wherein there is provided a means for controlling the direction of fiow of water, either to the spout or the spray, in which means there is included a 16 fixture formed as an integral casting, including a pair of outlets and a single inlet wherein the direction of flow from the inlet to the outlets is controlled through a pair of orifices forming a dividing plate between the said outlets.
Another object of this invention is to provide a combination fixture wherein there is included an ejector means formed as an orifice within a fitting and which is operable in connection with a valve member to control the flow of water in 25 the combination fixture.
Other objects and advantages of this invention it is believed will 'be apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof as illustrated in the accompanying draw- 30 ings.

In the preferred embodiment of our invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, I indicates a cold water conduit and 2 a hot water conduit. The flow of water through the conduits so I and 2 is controlled by cold and hot water control valves 3 and l. The conduits I and 2, after leaving the valves 3 and I are connected by a coupling 5 in which the hot and cold water may be mixed. Connected with the coupling 5 is a pipe 55 i which is connected with the inlet I of the connecting fitting 8. The fitting I has a spout outlet 9 and a spray or shower outlet III. A spout II is mounted directly in the outlet 9. Mounted in spout I I is a valve I2. Connected with the outlet III is a pipe I 3 which extends upwardly and is 5 connected to the spray or shower head I4.
The fitting 8 is of unitary cast construction and includes an oriflced dividing plate I! in-+ eluding a spout orifice I6 and a spray orifice I].
The mode of operation of the fixture embody- 10 ing our invention is: Water as admitted from the hot and cold water pipes I and 2, mixed in the member 5, is conducted tothe inlet I of the unitary cast connecting member 8. The water normally passes outward through the spout orifice I6 and through the spout II and is delivered into the bathtub, lavatory, or other plumbing fixture. The valve I2 is moved to open position during this operation. When it is desired to stop the flow of water from the spout I I to cause the water to fiow from the spray or shower head I 4, the valve I2 is moved to a closed position. This causes the water to back up and flow through the orifice I6 and back through the orifice I! up through the pipe I3 and out a spray head I4. When the valve I2 is opened, water is normally prevented from flowing in this direction due to the fact that the water issuing through the orifice I6 produces an ejector action in the spout II causing air to be drawn through the spray 14, pipe I3, and outlet III.
In the modification of our invention as particularly illustrated in Figure 3, in order to permit in the roughing-in operations either the conduit 6 or II as may be most convenient to be used as the inlet while the opposite of said conduits is to be used as the connection extending to the shower head I4, the restrictions I6 and I! are formed whereby irrespective of which of said conduits may be used as the inlet conduit, there is provided a restriction in said inlet so that an elector action will be obtained whereby the desired direction of fiow of the water may at all times be had. The restrictions as thus provided by the ports l6 and I1 formed in the partition II provide for the maintaining of an ejector action in the coupling irrespective of which branch is utilized as the inlet.
In the modified form of our invention as illustrated 'in Figure 4, similar parts have been des- 60 ignated by a similar numeral with the addition of an exponent a thereto. In this form of our invention the coupling 5 is formed with two outlets normally the spout outlet 9', shower outlet Ill and a single inlet I Conduits 8', II
and the spout I l' are connected in the same manner as set iorth in connection with the modification of our invention as illustrated in Figures 1 to 3, inclusive.
In this form of our invention the restrictions which provide for the ejector action are provided by forming restricted es l8! and i'l di-' rectly in the inlet I or outlet ill". As in the case the modification illustrated in Figures 1 to 3,-
water supply pipe I, in which the valve 8* is mounted. is connected to one horizontal branch 2| 0! the cross I and the cold water supply pipe 2 in which the valve 4'' is mounted is connected to the oppositely disposed branch 22" of the cross 5".
In order to provide for an ejector action in the inlet so as to control the manner of flow oi the water as set forth specifically in connection with Figures 1 to 3, there is provided in the inlets to the connection it restricted passages W and il whereby an ejector action is had insuring that the water will fiow normally through the conduit Ii to the spout.
In this modification of our invention as in the previous modifications considered, there is mounted in the spout a control valve similar to the valve It. When this control valve is closed, the water is caused to pass upwardly through the con duit ll to the shower head. The ejector action provided by the restrictions I6 and H in this form of our invention illustrated in Figure 5 insures that the water will normally pass through the spout outlet and will not back up and fiow from the shower head connected with the conduit I 3*.
Having fully described our invention, it is to be understood that we do not wish to be limited to the details herein set forth, but our invention is of the full scope of the appended claims.
We claim:
l. A combination fixture including an inlet and a pair of outlets, an orificed dividing plate within the fixture, a valved outlet member connected with one of said outlets, a valve mounted in the valved outlet member, the orifice member having a pair of orifices for controlling the fiow to the outlets, one orifice being positioned between the inlet and the valved outlet member, and the other orifice being positioned between the valved outlet and the other outlet.
3. In a combination spout and spray'fixture, a connecting member having a single inlet and a pair oi! outlets, and an orificed plate having a pair of orifices positioned between the inlet and the outlets.
4. In a combination spout and spray fixture, a connecting member having a plurality of outlets and one or more inlets, with a restriction formed in one 01' said inlets so as to provide an ejector action when fiuid is emitted through said inlet or inlets.
5. In a combination spout and spray fixture, a
connecting member having a plurality of outlets,
and an inlet provided with an ejector device.
6. In a combination spout and spray fixture, a connecting member having a plurality of outlets, and one or more inlets provided with an ejector device.
'I. In a combination spout and spray fixture. an elbow connecting member having an outlet in one branch of said elbow, and having an inlet and another outlet in the other branch of said elbow, said inlet being provided with an ejector device.
8. In a combination spout and spray fixture, an elbow connecting member having an outlet in one branch of said elbow, and having an inlet and another outlet in the other branch of said elbow, and a restriction formed in the passageway of said inlet.
9. In combination spout and spray fixture, an elbow connecting member having vertical and horizontal branches, an outlet port formed in said horizontal branch, an inlet port and another outlet port formed in said vertical branch, and an ejector device provided in one 01 said ports.
10. In a combination spout and spray fixture, an elbow connecting member having an outlet port in one branch of said elbow, and having a pair of ports adjacent each other provided in the other branch of said elbow, each 01' said pair of ports having restricted passageways and adapted to be utilized interchangeably as inlet and outlet P rts.
