J. J. WARSHAW WAXED PAPER EACKAGING Filed May 28, 1938 R Y mw m m 0 vv n N J m W 9 Patented Mar. 21, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE v WAXED PAPER PACKAGING Application May 28, 1938, Serial No. 210,690
2 Claims.
This invention relates to Wax paper packaging and has for one of its objects the provision of a new and unique manner of packing wax paper sheets of the type commonly used in bakeries, dairies, delicatessen stores, etc, for food stuffs, so that they may be maintained in a sanitary state and readily accessible for use.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a package of wax paper sheets wherein the sheets may at all times be safely maintained without the likelihood of their being blown or strewn about when the package is open for use.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a package of the nature referred to, said package comprising a tubular container in which the sheets are maintained in rolled condition so that the innermost sheet of the roll is at all times accessible and may be readily drawn out for use.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a package of this nature that will occupy a minimum of counter space and yet contain a large number of sheets.
Yet another object of the invention is the provision of a container for packing Wax paper sheets, the said container being provided with an upwardly tapering cupped, conical, or dome-like bottom wall so that the top of the innermost sheet extends above the other sheets of the package to enhance the removal thereof for use in wrapping.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the improvements is better understood, the invention consisting substantially in the novel arrangement and co-relation of parts herein fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein similar reference characters are used to describe corresponding parts throughout the several views, and then finally pointed out and specifically defined and indicated in the appended claims.
The disclosure made the basis of exemplifying the present inventive concept suggests a practical embodiment thereof, but the invention is not to be restricted to the exact details of this disclosure, and the latter, therefore, is to be understood from an illustrative, rather than a restrictive standpoint.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a top plan View of my improved wax paper package with the container cover removed;
Fig. 2 is a side View of the package partly in section;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the sheets; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing a modified form of container.
Referring now to Figs. 1 to 3 of the drawing in detail, 5 indicates a container which may be made of any suitable material such as cardboard, metal, etc. in which there is contained a plurality of wax paper sheets 6 forming a spirally wound roll 1 supported upon a fiat base or bottom wall 9 and in which the innermost sheet 6ais readily accessible and may be removed from the roll without disturbing the sheet directly next thereto. A cover 8 may be utilized for covering the container 5 when not in use or during transportation. While I have shown the container as being circular in plan view, it may just as readily be elliptical or of any other angular or curved configuration.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a modified form of my invention, wherein, the container 5a instead of being provided with a flat base 9, the said container has a cone or cup-like base In for supporting the spirally wound roll I of wax sheets 6. Due to the formation of the said base I D the top edges of the sheets 6 will produce a cone-like formation as shown in dot-and-dash lines at II Fig. 4. The container 5a may be provided with a cover l2 having a top wall l3 which conforms in shape to the formation ll produced by the top edges of the sheets 6.
It will be seen that with my improved manner of packing wax sheets of the naturereferred to, such sheets will at all times be highly sanitary as but the innermost point or corner M of any of the sheets need be handled when removing same from the package.
It will also be seen that due to the spiral winding of the sheets no undue looseness of the sheets in the package is possible, and inasmuch as the sheets are waxed, the inner sheet will slip out easily when withdrawn from the container without disturbing the sheet contiguous thereto or any of the other sheets of the package.
From the foregoing it will therefore be seen that I have provided a simple yet highly efiicient and sanitary wax paper package from which sheets may be readily withdrawn one at a time, and one which will occupy a minimum of counter space and in which the individual sheets are safely maintained against being blown or accidentally strewn about.
Wherever in the foregoing specification and appended claims I refer to Wax paper, it will of course be obvious that other types of food-wrapping papers may be used.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A package of the nature described, comprising a container curvilinear in horizontal crosssection, a plurality of wax paper sheets in the said container forming a spirally wound roll, and a conical base on the container for supporting the said roll, one end of the roll of sheets being engaged upon the conical base so that the top of the innermost sheets will extend above the other sheets of the roll to facilitate removal of individual sheets from the roll.
2. A package of the nature described, compris- 10 mg a container curvilinear in horizontal crosssection, an upwardly tapering conical base, a plurality of wax paper sheets resting on the said base and forming a spirally wound roll, and a cover similar in shape to the base at the top of the container, one end of the roll of sheets being engaged upon the conical base so that the top of the innermost sheets will extend above the other sheets of the'roll to facilitate removal of individual sheets from the roll.
JULIUS J. WARSHAW.
