AMUSE'MENT APPARATUS Filed April 19, 1957 2` sheets-sheet 2 `m y o i266 $3 In ventor Patented Feb. 14, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in amusement apparatus and more particularly to a game of the surface projectile type.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a game which combines certain characteristics of the well known pin and ball games with pool.
Another important object of the invention is 'to provide a game apparatus which combines a skill of game with certain obstacles which will have a tendency to remove the element of luck from the results to be gained.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the apparatus.
Figure 2 represents a longitudinal sectional view through the apparatus.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the pins.
Figure 5 is an elevational view of one of the balls.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the cue.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the game board having the upstanding side walls 6--6 and the end walls 1 8. Numeral 9 represents a transversely extending partition connecting the side walls 6-6 and being substantially spaced from the end Wall 1, dividing the game board into the play from area a and the play to area b. The play from area is marked off with transverse starting j lines IIl-II from which the ball I2 can be shot, while 40 in the area b are the plurality of cup-formed peg arrangements I3 and the free pins I4. The surface of the area b is marked of! with scores I5 adjacent both the pocket I3 and the pin I4.
The partition 9 is provided with a plurality of round openings I6 through which the ball I2 can barely pass.
This game is played by placing one ball on the line II of the table and playing another on the 5 line III. A cue is used to shoot the first ball against the second ball. The object is to get as many balls through the holes of the partition as possible and into the pockets I3, and also by knocking down the pins I 4 placed between the 10 pockets. In knocking down a pin the player can set it up and try knocking it down again, but when balls go into the pocket they cannot be played over. Two players can play this game. The winner has the most points counting the numbers of the pockets and pins which he has knocked down.
Various other games can be made up and played with the equipment above set forth.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A game apparatus comprising a board having a side wall and an end wall, a partition connecting the side wall in spaced relation to the end wall and having a plurality oi openings therein extending upwardly from the surface of the board, said side walls, end wall and partition defining a play to area, and obstacles on the play to area adapted to be struck by a surface projectile shot through one of the said openings of the partition, said board being inclined, said objects consisting of pockets formed by pegs driven into the said area and having one side open and facing downwardly with respect to the inclination of the n board.
