Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
JOSEPH M. BROWN AND GEORGE GRAW, OF OOONOMOWOO, WISCONSIN; SAID GRAW ASSIGNOR 'IO SAID BROWN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-REELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,485, dated April 22, 1879 application led September 14, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JosEPH M. BROWN and GEORGE-GRAW, of Oconomowoc, in the county of Waukesha, in the State of NVisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Clothes-Reels, of which the followin gis a speciiication.
Our invention has for its object the facilitating the drying of clothes, and is constructed with a platform standing upon four stakes or legs, which are driven into the ground, and a screw passing through their upper ends into the sides of the platform-frame, and in this platform stands a revolving` shaft, and on the top of said shaft is a head or cap and arms branching out from the same, with a clothesline passing from arm to arm for the purpose ot' hanging on clothes.
In the drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of our invention; and Fig. 2, a view of the head of the revolving shaft, showing a recess in the same, intol which enters the end of one of the arms.
In the drawings, A is the platform on which the reel stands; B, thelegs of the same, with screws through their upper ends into the platform. O is a revolving shaft, which sustains the reel; E, a cap or head on the upper end of the shaft O, forming the center of the reel; D, arms of the reel; E, cords or wires extending from arm to arm; G,a ring round the shaft g H, stays from the cap E to ring G. This cap, ring, and stays form a central frame for the reel, and the arms D are secured. to the stays H by bolts I, and the ends of arms D set in recess N in the shaft below the cap E, so that when the outer ends of arms D are raised the arms turn on bolts I, and the lower ends of the same come out of therecesses, and the arms,
cap, and ropes can be taken oft' of the shaft and carried and placed under cover till wanted again. K, pins under the ends of the arms in the shaft, to hold the arms in the shaft rmly and make the reel stationary in the shaft.
Whenever it is necessary to raise the end of an arm a pin can be taken out from under the same, and then the arm can be raised and stand perpendicular-ly.
L is a screw passing down through the cap into the end of the shaft to hold the cap firmly to the shaft; M, a foot-piece,in which the shaft is stepped; N, recesses in the shaft.
The reel is placed where wanted for use, the stakes driven in the ground and screwed to the platform, the shaft setin the platform, and the reel placed' upon the same. close place and it is necessary to drive by it, lift one of the arms into a perpendicular position, and then the way will be clear to drive by.
For the preservation of the ropes and the movable part of the reel, take the screw out of the cap or head, raise the arms, and take the whole olf of the shaft and convey it where wanted.
This reel is calculated to be free from ice in winter, and handy for use.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The head E, stays H, ring G, arms D, bolts I, shaft O, having recesses N to receive the ends of the arms D, and the pins K, in combination with the supportingplatfbrm A, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
