The oven structure as described may be substantially covered by a top structure which is preferably constituted by a lower horizontal corner frame generally designated at 60 extending along the sides, the front, and the rear of the stove body, the corner frame being secured to the top of the corner members H), H, I2 and I3, and being further provided with downwardly extending flange portions 6| to provide edge strips parallel to bottom edge strips 28, 2|. Cooperated with the frame 60 are the inclined corner elements designated 62 and the top horizontal frame member 63, which parts are adapted to properly secure the inclined top panel elements designated 64. The arrangement is such that a fine opening is provided into which is inserted and suitably secured the flue 65 through which the products of combustion as well as the smoke resulting from the broiling operation may be discharged to atmosphere.

In use of the above structure as aforesaid, suitable fuel such as charcoal may be laid on the bottom 36 of the fire pit and ignited, and door 48 may be kept wholly opened or, if closed, the damper slide 52 may be adjusted to secure proper draft. Upon the oven being brought up to proper heat, the doors id and M if closed are opened to full open position and the article or articles to be broiled are inserted through large opening 30 and laid on the grill 33. The size of the door 38 is such that the articles may be readily turned as may be necessary, it being understood that the products of combustion and gases are discharged through the top flue 65.

When it is desired to remove the ashes from the fire pit, such may be accomplished with facility through the door opening 3!, it being further understood that the imperforate bottom 36 of the fire pit prevents ashes dropping to the lower storage compartment, which provides a storage chamber for a supply of charcoal, either in loose or in bag form, so that fuel may be readily available.

The broiling oven as above described may be constructed in various sizes, depending on the intended use. Thus, for inside use where the oven would probably be permanently located, as in a commercial barbecue stand, the oven as aforesaid may be substantial in size and weight. For outside use, and particularly where it is desired that the oven be capable of ready transport, as for use at picnics and the like, the oven may be of smaller size and constructed of light weight material, whereby it is of a portable nature. In any event the lower compartment is always available as a storage chamber for fuel or the like, so that fuel is at hand and readily available.

As many changes could be made in carrying out the above constructions without departing from the scope of the invention it is intended that all matter contained in the above description and shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:

1. A broiling oven structure having sides, a front and a rear, a bottom for the structure, a horizontal partition disposed above the bottom, the front terminating below the horizontal partition but well above the bottom, the horizontal partition extending from side to side and from front to rear of said structure and providing with the bottom and the sides and rear of the structure a storage compartment, a grille disposed above and spaced from the partition whereby the partition forms with the sides, front and rear of the structure a fire pit having a closed bottom disposed below the grille, the front being provided with openings, one of which provides access to the space in the structure above the grille, and the other providing access to the fire 2. A broiling oven structure having sides, a front and a rear, a bottom for the structure, a horizontal partition disposed above the bottom, the front terminating below the horizontal partition but well above the bottom, the horizontal partition extending from side to side and from front to rear of said structure and providing with the bottom and the sides and rear of the structure a storage compartment, grille supporting means arranged in the structure above the partition, a grille removably supported on said means, the partition forming with the sides, front and rear of the structure a fire pit having a closed bottom disposed below the grille, a top for the structure having a flue opening, and a flue arranged in said opening.

A broiling oven structure having sides, a front and a rear, a bottom for the structure, a horizontal partition disposed above the bottom, the front terminating below the horizontal partition but well above the bottom, the horizontal partition extending from side to side and from front to rear of said structure and providing with the bottom and the sides and rear of the structure a storage compartment, grille supporting means arranged in the structure above the parti tion, a grille removably supported on said means, the partition forming with the sides, front and rear of the structure a fire pit having a closed bottom disposed below the grille, a top for the structure having a flue opening, a flue arranged in said opening, the front being provided with openings, one of which provides access to the space in the structure above the grille, and the other providing access to the fire pit.
