My invention relates to display stands, and has special reference to such stands that are particularly adapted for displaying packages of fruit drops, chewing gum and other confections.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a stand of the character indicated, which is of simple, strong and durable construction, which is capable of attractively displaying a large number of articles to the best advantage, and which is convenient in use.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved stand in its preferred form;
2 is a side elevation;
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3--3 of Figs. 1 and 4;
Fig. 4 is a front sectional elevation of the stand; Fig. 5 is a perspective View, partly in section, of the upper left corner portion of the stand; and
20 Figs. 6, 7 and 8 are respectively detail longitudinal sectional views of individual supports for the articles to be displayed, articles of difierent shapes being shown by dot and dash lines arranged on the supports.
25 My improved display stand as illustrated in the drawings, is provided with longitudinal side walls 2 which are connected at their front ends by a front wall 4, and are further connected by an angle brace ii extending between the lower 30 rear corners and by a brace 8 extending between the central portions of their lower edges.
Extending between the upper portions of the side walls are a plurality of supporting members Ml each having its ends turned downwardly to provide flanges ii. that are secured by rivets l4 to the side walls, said members It being arranged one behind the other. Each supporting member iii is bent transversely thereof to provide a central support or shelf 16, and shelves 18 at opposite sides of the central shelf and stepped downwardly therefrom and from each other toward the side walls. The corresponding shelves l6 and it of the several members II] are successively 4 stepped upwardly from the front to the rear of the stand. The outermost shelves I8 are arranged below the outer edges of the side walls, and the central shelves l6 are above said edges. The portions of the side walls arranged adjacent 50 the foremost member ill have inwardly and up wardly bent portions 20 and downwardly bent portions 22. Also there is shown a filling strip l8 positioned a distance above the shelves l8 at each side of the central shelf I6 of the foremost 55 supporting member [0. These filling strips may be used when the foremost shelves l8 are too low to properly display certain articles.
The forward edges of the members [0 are arranged adjacent vertical walls 24 which have walls of the stand and the partition is held between the wall 24 and the front wall 4 of the stand. Each of the other partitions 30 is supported against the Wall 24 by means of an angle member 34 secured to said wall 24. The three foremost supporting members ill have their rear edges arranged adjacent the forward sides of the glass partitions 30. The partitions 30 may be easily removed and replaced for cleaning purposes.
At the rear of the stand there is a member. 36 secured between the side walls and adjacent the rear edge of the rearmost member In. The upper portion 38 of this member 10 is bent outwardly to provide a space between this member and the rear edge of the rearmost member ID to receive -a mirror 40, the mirror being removably held in position by means of channel members 42 secured to the member 36.
The partitions 30 and the mirror 4|] extend a distance above the supporting means provided by the stepped members [0, and their upper edges each preferably has a horizontal central portion 5 and downwardly and outwardly inclined portions so as to conform somewhat to the shape of the supporting members [0. i
The component parts of the stand with the exceptionof the partitions 30 and mirror may be 40 made of sheet metal.
Various sizes and shapes of small packages 4| of chewing gum, confections, and the like, may be conveniently supported on the step-like supports or shelves l6 and [8 as illustrated in Figs. 45 6, 7 and 8. When thus placed on the stand they are displayed to the best advantage, and may be conveniently removed by the purchasers without materially altering the attractiveness of the display as a whole. Owing to the raised arrangement of the central supports orshelves and the downwardly stepped supports or shelves at opposite sides of the central shelves, all of which are arranged in symmetrically stepped relationship, the articles to be displayed when the stand longitudinal side walls, supporting means for the articles to be displayed arranged between the side walls, said supporting means being divided into sections arranged one behind the other, partitions arranged between and projecting above said sections and extending between the side Walls, each section having a step-like support arranged centrally thereof and extending between the adjacent partitions, and having other steplike supports successively stepped downwardly from said central support toward said sidewalls, and the corresponding supports of the several sections being stepped upwardly from the front toward the rear of the stand.
2." A structure according to claim 1 in which each oi said supports is substantially fiat and is inclined slightly upwardly and rearwardly.
