This invention relates to a mop stick, andV has for an object to provide an improved construction over that shown in my prior Patent No. 1,958,629 of May 15, 1934.

A further object is to provide a mop stick to which the mop may be more quickly attached than to that disclosed in the prior above mentioned patent, and which, when the mop is once attached, will stay permanently so until it is worn out, whereupon it may be cut off from the stick and discarded and a new mop attached, thus keeping the replacement cost at a minimum.

Still a further object of this invention is to provide a mop stick to which the mop may be permanently attached with substantially a` single movement.

Still a further object of this invention is to provide a mop receiving end on the mop stick which end may be made of corrosion resistant metal, such as cadmium plated cast or pressed steel, or which end may be formed in the wood of the mop stick.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, as will hereinafter become apparent, this invention comprises the constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, hereinafter claimed, disclosed, and illustrated, wherein,

There is shown at IIJ the handle of the mop stick of this invention, the mop end thereof having a reduced neck II to receive a ferrule I2 thereon, a rivet I3 being provided for permanently securing the ferrule I2 on the neck II. A mop holder I4 is provided with turned flangeV I5 adapted to be placed over the ferrule I2 and be secured thereto by the rivet I6.

Below the flange I5, the holder I4 tapers to a reduced neck I6 and terminates in an enlarged boss I'I, a shoulder I8 being located between the neck I6' and the boss I 1. At the end opposite from the shouldered end, the boss I 1 tapers at I9 to a hollowed terminal 28. A pair of wings 2I on opposite sides of the boss I'I commencev at the shoulder I-8 and taper inwardly to the terminal 2D.

Instead of being a separate piece preferably made of metal, the lower end of the handle may be made of the same shape as` the outside of the holder I4, but it is believed preferable to make the ferrule separately of corrosion resistant metal, for the same can be cast or turned out in metal as cheaply as it can be integrally made on the end of the handle. Furthermore, it will be more durable when made of metal and less likely to be discarded when the mop head, Shown at 22, is worn out and discarded in favor of a new mop to be placed on the same handle, and when necessary a new handle may be inexpensively attached to the same holder.

The mop 22 may be made according to the disclosure of my prior patent, No. 1,958,629, above mentioned, and may consist, as shown, of mop material folded over a cordage 23 and held in folded over position by the cordage 24 to form a holder receiving aperture 25.

To assemble the mop on the stick, the boss I1 of holder I4 is inserted into the aperture 25 of the mop 22 until the shoulder I8 is below the cordage 23. The outstanding wings 2I will extend even further under the cordage 23 of the mop, making it impossible to lose or remove the mop from the handle. When the mop is worn out in use, the cordage 23 and 24 will be cut by a knife to remove the mop, permitting a new mop to be substituted therefor.

In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 7, 8 and 9, the mop stick handle 3l] is provided with a metallic ferrule 3l which is held in position thereon by being crimped, as at 32, about an aperture 33 extending through the handle and the ferrule. A cylindrical holder 34 having an inner diameter substantially equal to or very slightly greater than the outer diameter of the ferrule 3| is provided with a transverse aperture 35 extending through its opposite walls of a size corresponding to the aperture 33 in the handle 3|). A reduced neck 36 extending about the cylindrical holder 34 provides means for assisting in securing the mop 31 thereon, this mop 31 being held thereto by having cotton strands wound around in a conventional manner and then turned over, and a further winding 38 over the outside is provided fo-r holding the mop in position on the holder.v

A rope or cord 39 secured to the mop 31 is provided with a wire leader or needle 40 so that it may be pulled through the aligned apertures 33 and 35 for holding the holder 34 in position on the handle 30. After thus threading the cord 39 through the aligned apertures the end thereof may be cut oi and the leader 40 is discarded. The rst time the mop is used the cord 39 will swell up and firmly hold the holder and mop on the handle. When the mop is nally worn out through repeated use, it may be discarded by merely cutting it loose from the cord 39, enabling both the mop and cord to be removed, whereupon a new mop of similar construction may be applied to the same mop stick handle, thus making the same mop stick handle extend through the life of a plurality of mops.

Having thus set forth the nature of this invention, what I claim is:

1. A mop comprising a mop stick, a mop holder, a mop swab on said mop holder, and means for attaching said mop holder and swab to the mop stick, said mop holder having a cylindrical recess to receive the end of the mop stick therein and aligned holes extending through said end of the mop stick and the mop holder, and mop material extended from the mop swab through the aligned holes and adapted to swell when the mop swab is first wetted in use, to fasten the mop holder and mop swab to the mop stick until said mop material is cut to release the mop stick from the mop; holder and swab.

2. A mop comprising a mop stick, a mop holder, a mop swab on said mop holder, and means for attaching said mop holder and swab to the mop stick, said mop holder having a cylindrical recess to receive the end of the mop stick therein and aligned holes extending through said end of the mop stick and the mop holder, and mop material extended from the mop swab through the aligned holes and adapted to swell when the mop swab is rst wetted in use, to fasten the mop holder and mop swab to the mop stick until said mop material is cut to release the mop stick from the mop holder' and swab, said mop material comprising a oord integrally extending from said mop swab.
