Application October 9,
3 Claims.
Our invention relates to beverage dispensing apparatus of the type utilizing an outer container for enclosing a beverage receptacle together with a carbon dioxide ice unit for cooling and dispensing the beverage.
The object of our invention is to provide a container arranged to enclose and support a detachably mounted beverage container together with the necessary operating unit for dispensing the beverage.
Other objects will appear as this specification proceeds. Accordingly our invention is embodied in an apparatus arranged and constructed as hereinafter set forth and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a beverage dispensing apparatus embodying our invention.
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are respectively horizontal sectional views of Figure 1 taken on the lines 2 2, 3 3, and 4 4 of said gure.
The apparatus comprises an outer metal container I preferably simulating a beer barrel. The barrel is insulated on the inside by suitable insulation 2. The ends of the barrel are open and provided with annular flanges 1 for supporting the detachable ends or covers 9 and I0.
The bottom cover 9, see Figure 3, is provided with three radially extending lugs which are adapted to pass upwards through three corresponding notches I4 in the bottom flange 1. By turning said bottom cover a bayonet joint is formed between the cover and the flange as will be understood, The top cover l is similarly constructed and is in addition provided with a conventional adjustable bleeder valve |1. Suitable gaskets are provided to form gas tight closure between the covers and their supporting anges.
The beverage container is marked 2| and rests on the bottom cover 9 within a rim 20 thereon. The upper end of the beverage receptacle is held in position by radial ribs 22 depending from a partition 26 suitably secured in the barrel I The partition 26 has curved openings as shown in Figure 2 and divides the barrel into an upper and a lower chamber communicating with each other through the said openings.
To the partition 26 there is secured the male portion of a standard beer keg valve 21 which includes a check valve 29. To the latter is secured a hose connection 23 which leads upwards to the low side of a pressure reducing valve 32. The high side of the valve 32 is connected by a pipe 33 to a carbon dioxide ice box 3|. A bleeder Valve 34 connects the interior or ice chamber 1933, Serial No. 692,768
with the interior 4of the barrel I. The carbon dioxide ice box is provided with a chamber 35 for insulating purposes. The chamber 35 communicates with the chamber of the ice box by means of an adjustable needle Valve 31 and with the interior of the barrel I by means of a bleeder valve 36.
The carbon dioxide ice unit and the pressure reducing valve 32 are practically identical in construction with the same elements disclosed in our pending application Serial Number 689,830, iled September 18, 1933 to which reference is made.
The carbon dioxide unit and the pressure reducing valve are mounted on the partition 26 by angle pieces 39, 39.
The beverage container 2| is provided with the female part 39 of the aforesaid standard beer keg valve 21. The two parts of valve 21 are operatively connected by pushing the beverage container upward until connection is made and then giving the container 2| a quarter turn. 'Ihe container 2| may be conveniently turned or rotated by means of depending lugs 46. Similarly both of the covers 9 and I0 have lugs 43 for convenient manipulation. A dispensing faucet 4| is attached to the bung hole in the container 2| by means of a coupling connection 40 The faucet is insulated through a suitable gasketed opening 42 in the barrel.
In operation a piece of carbon dioxide ice is placed within the ice box 3|, the beverage container 2| is inserted so as to be operatively connected to the ice box and the reducing valve. All the valves are of course properly adjusted and the covers 9 and I0 are put on.
During operation it will be seen that sublimated carbon dioxide gas passes through the reducing valve into the beverage container 2| for cooling and dispensing purposes. Gas also passes from the ice box into the chamber 35. This gas is at lower pressure because of the setting of the valves 36 and 31. The chamber 35 therefore acts as an insulating means for the ice box into the barrel by way of the bleeder valve 34, so that the interior of the barrel will be cooled.
It will be noted that when the beverage container has been emptied, it is detached by removing the outside faucet connection and the bottom cover 9. Then the container 2| is disconnected by giving it a quarter turn to the left and it may then be taken out and a full container inserted.
We claim:
l. An apparatus of the character described comprising an outer closed container, a horizontal partition therein, a detachable bottom in said container, a beverage container detachably supported below said partition on the bottom of said outer container, means mounted on the top of said partition for supplying carbon dioxide gas to said beverage container, and cooperating means on said partition and said beverage container for operatively connecting the latter to the said gas supplying means.
2. An apparatusV of the character described comprising an outer container having a detachable top and a detachable bottom, a horizontal partition in said container, a beverage container removably supported on the said bottom, means on top of said container for supplying carbon dioxide gas to the beverage container, cooperating means on the latter and s'aid partition for operatively connecting the beverage container lvv'ith the said gas supplying means, and means oper able from outside the outer container for withdrawing beverage from said beverage container.
3. An apparatus of the character described comprising an outer container having an open top and an open bottom, a horizontal partition within said container, a beverage container, a detachable cover for closing the bottom of the outer container and removably supporting said beverage container below said partition, means mounted on top of said partition for supplying sublimated carbon dioxide gas to the beverage container, and to the interior of the outer container, cooperating means on said partition and the beverage container for operatively connectingV the latter to the said gas supplying means and a detachable cover for closing the top of the l outer container.
