Description

W w. v. HARROILD awn? JAR LID OPENER Filed July 22, 1935 ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 28, 1936 PAT ll Claim.
This invention relates to jar holders and openers and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which maybe readily adapted to a jar and its cap so that a person may easily hold the jar and turn the cap off of said jar without mutilating either and which is simple, durable and efficient and which may be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention,
reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a side elevation, partly in section, illustrating a combined jar holder and opener constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the same applied to a jar and its cap.
Figure 2 is a top plan view illustrating the same.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view partly in section illustrating the same.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numerals II and 2 indicate pairs of superimposed arouately curved jaws, each pair of jaws having integral therewith handles3. The jaws2 are equipped with a suitable yieldable covering i while the jaws l are provided with gripping serrations 5. The jaws I are pivotally connected by a pivot 6. The jaws 2 are pivotally connected to one end of a substantially U-shaped bracket l which includes parallel arms 8 and a bight portion 9.
The bracket 7 is arranged so that the arms 8 thereof are disposed in superimposed relation (Cl. 813.ll)
with the lowermost arm of the shortest length and having the jaws 2 pivoted thereto. A plate or link Ill has one end connected with the pivot 6, while the opposite end of said plate or link is offset, as shown at H, and pivoted to the long 5 arm 8 of the bracket l. The jaws 2 are capable of swinging relative to the plate or link In and the latter is capable of swinging on the bracket.
In operation, the jaws 2 are applied to a jar I2, as shown in Figure 1, and the jaws II are 10 applied to the cap !3 of the jar. The operator grasps the handles of the jaws 2 in one hand and the handles of the jaws l in the other hand. The handles of the jaws l are then swung away from the handles of the jaws 2, turning or unthreading the cap it from the jar l2. The arrangement of the plate or link ill permits the jaws l to remain centered with respect to the jar and cap when turning said cap off of the 20 jar. The same operation is employed for threading the cap I3 on the jar, except that the handles of the jaws II are swung in an opposite direction. Through the handles of the jaws 2 the jar i2 is held against turning. 25
Having described the invention, I claim:
A combined jar holder and cap remover comprising a bracket including parallel arms of difierent lengths integrally connected with each other, a pair of jaws pivoted to one of said arms, 30 a link pivoted to the other arm, a second pair of jaws arranged in superimposed relation to the first pair of jaws, a pivot connecting the second pair of jaws and connecting the link thereto, and handles integral with said jaws. 35
ROY V. HARROLD.
