Description

BATHROOM ACCESSORY Filed July 27, 1935 MMP/l ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES BAOM ACCESSR Nicholas De Mark,`lasadena, r i i i Vi'hipliuation July 27, 1935 Seriali No. Matth This invention relates to improvements in cabinets or ybathroom accessories.
The general object of this invention is to provide an improved cabinet'including novel means for supporting various articles.
A specific object of the invention is to provide a novel cabinet including a door which is pivotally mounted intermediate its width and having means thereon for supporting various articles.
Other objects andthe advantages oi this invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. l is a face view of my improved cabinet showing it operatively mounted in a wall; v
Fig. 2 isla section taken on line 2-2 or Fig. l;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line i-i oi Fig. l;
Fig. fl is an enlarged face view of the cabinet showing the door thereof in an open position;
Fig. 5 is a section taken on line 5--5 of Fig. d showing the cabinet door in a closed position, and with the supported articles omitted,
Fig. 6 is a section taken on line t-- oi Fig. d with the supported articles omitted, and
Fig. 7 is an enlarged section taken on line 'i-'i or Fig. d.
Referring to the drawing by reierence characters l have indicated my improved cabinet generally at Ill. As shown the cabinet it is made ol metal and includes a housing i2. As shown the housing i2 includes semi-cylindrical side walls It, a bottom wall I4, and a top wall I5 with the front open as indicated at I6. Surrounding the front opening I6 the housing includes an enlarged iiange portion il.
Extending outwardly from the side walls i3 on each side of the center of the housing and adjacent the top thereof I provide un members It and adjacent the bottom I provide similar :un members I9. Longitudinally the top iin members I8 are inclined upwardly towards the front of the housing and the lower n members I9 are inclined downwardly towards the front of the housing. Transversely the top iin members I8 are inclined upward and the lower iin members i9 are inclined downward.
At-the center of the housing adjacent the flange il the top wall I5 includes an upstanding lug 2li and, similarly located, the bottom wall I4 in cludes a lug 2l. The lug 20 has a vertical aper ture 22 therein and the lug 2d has a vertical aperture 23 therein. Adjacent each side of the housing and adjacent the front ange I'i the top wall includes upstanding lugs 24.,
For closing the front opening it of the housing cess il of the lower door boss il.
(Uli i12-'lidi l provide a closure door it. As shown e door 25 is made or metal and inteediate its width at the top and bottom thereof includes a lug it each oi which have a recess il therein.
Positioned in the aperture di ci the housing g lug 2li l provide a sleeve it which entends downward to the top of the top door boss it and in the sleeve it l'. provide a pin it which is positioned in the recess il oithe upper door boss it. Fnsitioned in the aperture it of the housing boss it m l may provide a sleeve it which terminates hush with the inner surface oi the bottom wall id and in the sleeve it. A pin ti is positioned inthe rem Surroun the pin di between the door boss tti and the botu is tom wall id l provide a pair oi washers iii to to a supporting bearing for the door.
Adjacent one side and intermediate its height the door has a knob handle it suitably secured thereto winch entends outward from the i'ace oi ad the door opposite the lugs it. Adjacent the top or the door and adjacent each oi the sides i provide lugs it and it which entend outward from the same tace or the door as the lugs it. The upper surface of each or the lugs .it and tit ad is inclined upwardly toward the dooras indicated at St and in this inclined surface each oi the lugs 3d. and db has a Vsemi-cylindrical circular recess al therein. (idee Fis. 7.)
As clearly shown in Fig. 'i one oi the bosses iii 30 has an aperture tt therein in which a standard spring pressed cupboard snap di is positioned.. The cupboard snap tu is positioned in the aperture 3d with the bolt portion dt thereof eaten downward and projecting into the interior of the 35 housing it. The upper end oi the aperture it is preferably closed by a thin metal plate iid which is secured to the boss it as by a solder d Il When the door it is swung to an open. position the door lug it forces the plunger di to a it@ retracted-position until the recess il is in line with the plunger whereupon the plunger di enters the recess di and thereafter resiliently retains the door in an open position. When the door 25 is swung to a closed. position the plunger t5 di is forcibly retracted and moves out oi the aperture t'i oi? the lug it and as the door approaches a closed position the door lug tti iorces the plunger to a retracted position until it enters 'the aperture tl thereof whereaiter the 50 plunger resiliently retains the door in a closed position.
Adjacent the top oi the door it and ertending outward from the ma face thereoi as the la 2t the door includes an elongated boss it d it adjacent the bottom the door includes an elongated boss 44.
Mounted on the boss 43 I provide a shelf member which includes a plurality of pin portions 45 which are positioned in recesses 41 in the boss 44 and are suitably secured to the boss 44-as by solder. (See Fig. 6.) The shelf 45 has a large central aperture 48 therein inwhich a drinking glass 4S is adapted to be positioned. Positioned on each side of the aperture 48 the shelf 45 has a pair of elongated reduced apertures 50 in which the handles of tooth brushes 5I are`adapted to be positioned with the bristles of the brushes engaging the upper surface of-the shelf.
`Mounted on the boss 44 I provide a shelf member 52 which includes a plurality of pin portions 53 which are positioned in recesses 54 in the boss 44 and are suitably secured to the boss as by solder. (See Fig. 6.) The outer edge of the shelf 52 is preferably curved to match the 'curvature of the side walls I3 of the housing and is preferably notched as at 55. The shelf 52 is adapted to support a soap dish 56 which includes a lug portion 51 depending from the bottom thereof and which is adapted to be removably positioned in an aperture 58 in the shelf 52. The soap dish 56 is held in place by gravity.
When the cabinet I0 is installed in a Wall such as indicated at 60 a rectangular aperture 5| of a size to receive the housing l2 is cut in the wall. Then adjacent each side of the aperture 6I and extending the full distance between the laths thin boards 62, or press board, or other material is secured in position and adjacent the bottom of the aperture a similar board 63 is secured in position, (See Figs. 2 and 3.) A quantity of mortar 64 may then be positioned in the space confined by the boards 62 and 63. Thereafter the cabinet Ill is positioned in the aperture 6| and forced into the mortar G4 until the rear face of the cabinet flange l1 rmly engages the outer surface of the wall 60. When the cement 54 sets it firmly retains the cabinet I 0 in position and the angular arrangement of the. fins I8 and I9 make it practically impossible to remove the cabinet from the wall.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have provided a novel cabinet which is simple in construction and highly eilicient in use.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
1. A door for a cabinet, said door having an elongated boss thereon adjacent the top thereof and extending outward therefrom, said boss having a plurality of recesses therein, a metal shelf member mounted on said. boss, said shelf including a plurality of pin portions, said pin portions being positioned in said boss recesses, said shelf having a central aperture therein and a plurality of reduced elongated apertures positioned on each side of said central aperture.
2. A cabinet, said cabinet including a metal housing comprising semi-cylindrical sidewalls, a top wall and a bottom wall, the front 4of said housing being open, said housing including a ange surrounding said open front, a door for closing said front opening, said door being pivotally secured to said housing adjacent the top and bottom thereof and intermediate its width, a handle member on said door extending outward from one face thereof and adjacent one side, a lug on said door adjacent' each side thereof and adjacent the top thereof, said lu'gs extending outward from the face of said door opposite to said handle, said lugs each having upwardly inclined upper surfaces having a recess therein, a spring pressed plunger latch mounted in said housing at the top thereof and adjacent one side thereof, said latch plun'ger, when said door is in one extreme position, engaging one of said lugs and being positioned in said recess thereof, and in the other extreme position engaging the other of said lugs and being positioned in said recess thereof.
