Description

April 28, 1936. H. L. MOORE ADVERTISING NOVELTY Filed Sept. 1l, 1955 Patented Apr. 28, 1936 UNITED STATES f PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The invention aims to provide a simple and inexpensive advertising novelty embodying an advertising panel, a calendar-carrying tab swingable from a position at the rear of said p-anel to a position at which it projects beyond an edge of the same, and a calendar carried by said tab to be held thereby at an edge of the panel, for use. While similar novelties have heretofore been devised, the present article is such that the calendar-carrying tab is integral along a hinge line with a backing sheet for the advertising panel, said tab, however, being otherwise severed from said backing sheet in readiness to be swung from its normal compact relation therewith into projected calendar displaying position.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing is a rear perspective view showing the article as manufactured and placed on sale.
Figure 2 is a front perspective view showing the calendar held by the tabI in position for use at one edge of the advertising panel.
Figure 3 is a sectional View on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
A preferred construction has been illustrated and will be specically described, with the understanding however, that within the scope of the invention as claimed, minor variations may be made.
An advertising panel 5 has been shown provided with a border frame 6 and with a transparent cover 1 and a backing sheet 8, held by said frame. Between the panel 5 and the backing sheet 8, I have shown a spacer 9 having an opening lil in which a thermometer I I is mounted, but this is not essential.
A calendar-carrying tab I2 is integral with the backing sheet 8 along a hinge line I3 near and parallel with the lower end of the frame 6, but said tab is otherwise severed from said backing sheet by a cut Ill so that said tab may be swung downwardly from its normal compact relation within the plane of the backing sheet 8, to the downwardly projecting position shown in Fig. 2, in which position it holds the calendar I5 in position for use under the framed advertising panel. At a suitable location, the cut I4 may be widened to provide a narrow slot IE into which to insert the thumb or nger nail when pulling the tab from its normal position to swing it downwardly.
Across the hinge line I3, I may provide a thin fabric reinforcement I1 if desired. The back-V The article as manufactured and placed on sale is unusually simple and compact, the then existing location of the tab I2 within the plane of the backing sheet 8 contributing materially to compactness. A number of the devices may thus be stacked or packed in small space for storage or delivery, and it is an easy matter for the recipient of one of the devices to pull out the tab I2 and swing it downwardly to the position at which it advantageously holds the calendar under the framed advertising panel.
I claimt- 1. An advertising panel having a backing sheet,
a portion of said sheet spaced inwardly from the peripheral edges of said sheet constituting a calendar-carrying tab, said tab being integrally joined by a hinge line to the adjacent portion of the backing sheet but being otherwise severed from said backing sheet by a slit extending entirely therethrough, said hinge line being sufficiently near an edge of the panel to allow said tab to swing to a position at which it projects beyond said edge, and a calendar secured upon said tab to be held thereby at said edge of said panel when sai-d tab is swung to projecting position. Y
2. A suspensible advertising p-anel provided with a border frame and with a backing sheet held by said frame, a calendar-carrying tab integral at its lower end with said backing sheet along a hinge line near and parallel with the lower end of said frame, said tab being otherwise severed from said backing sheet to swing toa position in which it projects downwardly from said frame, and a calendar secured upon said tab to be held thereby in a position under the framed panel when said tab is swung to downwardly projecting position.
