2 Claims.
This invention relates to that class of accessories and personal use articles generally referred to as smokers appliances and conveniences, and it has more particular reference to a combined multiple acting device which has a three-fold purpose, that of serving as a regular cigarette case, as a match holder, and an ash tray.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a simple and economical device of this type which though it may carry a more limited supply of cigarettes may nevertheless be sufficiently small to serve as a substitute for present day cigarette cases and holders while at the same time including within itself the additional features above described.
Briefly, the invention comprises a casing having a horizontal partition dividing it into upper and lower compartments, the upper compartment serving as the cigarette holder and having a hinged cover, and the lower compartment serving as a slideway for the slidable hand controlled drawer, said drawer being itself partitioned into individual compartments for matches and ashes.
Other features and advantages may become apparent from the following description and drawings.
In the drawings: I
Figure 1 is a perspective of a device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged view with the cover swung open and the drawer slid out to useful position.
Figure 3 is a perspective of the drawer per se.
Figures 4 and 5 are sections on the lines il and 5-5 respectively of Figure 1.
The case proper is denoted in the drawings by the numeral 6 and may be of any suitable proportions, material and shape. It is provided with a horizontal divider or partition 1 which is located to define a receptacle or holder for cigarettes as at 8. The lower compartment serves as a slideway for the slidable drawer or tray 9. The tray as shown in Figure 3 has an internal partition located between the center in one end and preferably near the back, said partition being indicated at l0 and serving to define a match compartment II and an ash tray I2. slideway of the casing. The drawer has a suitable finger knob on the outer end to facilitate opening and closing. At the same end the casing proper may be provided with a suitable latch l3 to keep the rim equipped cover l4 closed. This cover I4 is simply hinged at one end as indicated at l5 and swings down to serve as a closure for the cigarette receptacle 8.
Thus, the gist of the invention is found in the provision of a properly divided or partiwhich the This fits snugly and slidably in the v tioned rectangular casing open at its top and provided with a hinged cover, said partition serving to define an upper space for storage for maintenance of cigarettes to render them readily accessible and visible. Said partition also serves to define the lower compartment and the front Wall of the casing is simply formed with a slot to facilitate passage or sliding of the drawer. The drawer 9 is a simple proposition and includes a partition to define a match space ll and an ash tray l2. This self contained simple and economical device is an innovation, it is believed and is aptly fitted to serve the purposes intended. Persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will no doubt appreciate the features, refinements and advantages.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details coming within the field of in vention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice, if desired.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a substantially rectangular box-like casing formed with a central horizontal partition, the front wall of said casing having a slot, said slot combining with the partition to define a slideway for a tray, the top of said casing being hingedly mounted to serve as a cover, said cover combining with the partition to define a cigarette holding receptacle, means for holding the cover closed, a slidable tray slidable through said slot and into the lower part of said casing, that is beneath the partition, said tray serving as an ash and refuse holder.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a substantially rectangular box-like casing formed with a central horizontal partition, the front wall of said casing having a slot, said slot combining with the partition to define a slideway for a tray, the top of said casing being hingedly mounted to serve as a cover, said cover combining with the partition to define a cigarette holding receptacle, means for holding the cover closed, a slidable tray slidable through said slot and into the lower part of said casing, that is beneath the partition, said tray serving as an ash and refuse holder, said tray being partitioned within its own limit to define individual compartments, one for matches and one to serve as an ash tray.
