IMPROVEMENT IN RINGS FOR SPINNING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,573, dated May 14, 1878 application filed April 15,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NICHOLAS I. ALLEN, of Milford, county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Rings for Spinning-Machines, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to improvements in rings for spinning-frames, and has special reference to that class of rings which are made double.
The object of the invention is to produce a very light cheap ring; and the invention consists in a double ring having a traveler-race common to both ends of the ring.
Figure 1 represents, in section, one of my improved rings placed in position on the usual traversing ring-rail; and Fig. 2, a top view of such ring and holder.
My improved ring has an annular race, a, located substantially at the center of the ring, and above and below such race are narrow ledges b c, which act to support the traveler d when not held up by the yarn. The space between the outer edge of the race and the top for the yarn to travel in without abrasion against the ring.
When the ring, placed as shown in Fig. 1, has been used sufiiciently long for that portion of the race against which the ends of the traveler move to become worn, the ring will be inverted, and the traveler will thereafter be guided by the unworn side of the race thenplaced nearest the ring-rail e.
The ring shown may be contained in a holder, f, made adjustable in any usual way with reference to the spindle-opening.
I claim- As an improved article of manufacture, a double ring with a, single race common to both ends of the ring, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
NICHOLAS I. ALLEN.
Witnesses:
WM. F. DRAPER, F. J. DUTCHER.
