8 Claims. (CL 183-52).
My invention relates to a vacuum cleaner dust Similar characters of reference refer to similar beg emp ying means, and the objects of my inparts and portions throughout the several views vention are: of the drawing.
First, to provide a vacuum cleaner dust bag The dust bag I. dust bag in member cover 5 with an insert portion at its one end which is l ps 3 and 4. cov r m m er 5. v r m r sas- .s adapted to be inserted in a paper bag or like bag ket 6,transfer bag 1,. and stringifl, constitute the I for emptying the dust bag into the paper bag principal parts and portions of my vacuum cleaner without losing any of the. dust in the transfer; dust beg e pty m n Second, to provide a means of this class which The dust. bag i is of the conventional type of may be readily secured in the open end ofthe the various makes. It is however open at its 10 transfer bag so that the dust cannot escape while. uppe end and there is p ovid an insert i transferring from the dust bag t the transfer bar 2 which is adapted to fit into this open upper bag; y end. This insert member is an elliptical band Third, to provide a means of this class which provided with a semi-circular groove 20, near its may be readily connected to conventional dust lower side, shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawing, 15 bags now in use with but slight changes in the Whi his flp dto receive a rin a which s e dust bag; conventional form of ring adapted to fit over Fourth, to provide a meansof this class with the upper end of the dust ba I and l mp h a tight cover in connection with the conventional dust bag int th groove t th r ng being s p dust 'bag; and g o rated by means of extended end portionsflb which go Fifth, to provide a means of this class which are clamped by means of a bolt lo and to this bolt is very simple and economical of construction, easy isco ected a sp i the opposite end of which ofoperation, eilicient in its operation, and which is u ed to the Veeuum cleaner handle 9115s will not readily deteriorate or get out of order. h wn best n 2 f the dlflwing- With these and other objects in view .as will This insert member 2 is provided with an out- 2 appear hereinafter, my invention consists of cerwardly turned curved flange 2!) at its upper side, 'tain novel features. of constructiomcombination shown best in Fig- 3 of th r w n secured to and arrangement of parts and portions, a will the side walls at the minor axis sides of said ind be hereinafter described in detail and particularly sert member 2 are spring ips 3 a d i one at eac ,set forth in the appended claims, reference being Side, the flange 211 being out -W y o permit he 3 had to the accompanying drawing and to th clip members 3 to extend substantially vertically, characters of reference thereon which form a 85 Shown best 111 6 the w g- Mounted part of this application, in which; on the upper edge of the insert member 2 is the Figure 1 is a front elevational'view of the fragcover ember 5 wh ch i in t form of an i mentary upper portion of my'dust bag positioned tical plate, as shown best in Figs. 1 and 4 of the 35 in connection with the vacuum handle and showwin Thi c v r me 5 18 Provided i ing it in position when the vacuum cleaner is notches 5a at opposite sides of both the major not in operation therefore the bag is partially and minor axis of said cover member which are collapsed; Fig. 2 is' aside elevational view of made by cutting away a portion and forming it 40 the upper portion of the bag shown inconnection downwardly so that it extends into the interior of 40 with a fragmentary portion of the vacuum cleaner the insert member 2, as shown best in Figs. 5 handle and showing the bag in position when the and 6 of the drawing, thus providing guide means bag is fully expanded and in operating use and 51) at four points at e 8 .1 and minor 83 showing a portion broken away tofacilitate the thereof. This cover member 5 15 p v d 011 1 4 illustration; Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view under side. as shown best in Fig. 4 of the drawin 65 from the line 33 of Fig 2; Fig. 4 is an upsidewith a gasket 5 which is adapted to form a tight down view of the cover member shown fragjoint between the cover member 5 and the upper, mentarily'. Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view curved edge of the ihsert member 2, shown best from the line 5'5 of Fig. 1; Fig. 6 is an enlarged in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing. 50, fragmentary sectional view along the line 8-6 The operation and method of using the means of Fig. 1, and Fig. 7 is a diagrammatic view showis as follows: When it is desired to empty the dust ing a portion broken away and in section showbag the cover clips 3 and 4 are sprung backwardly ing the positions of the dust bag and the trans a sufficient distance to permit the cover member fer bag in their relation while emptying the con- 5 to be raised, the loops on the ends of the memto tents of the dust bag to the transfer bag. bers 3 and 4 passing the inner sidesof the notches d 5a with the upward movement of the cover memher. when the cover member is removed the transfer bag -'I is positioned down over the insert member 2 so that the lower edge of the transfer bag comes nearly down to the upper edge of the dust bag. Then a string or rubber band 8 is fitted tightly around the outside of the transfer bag 1. Then the dust bag and transfer bag in this position are turned upside down and the contents of the dust bag is emptied into the transfer bag 1,the dust bag being thoroughly shook or pounded so that the contents is transferredfrom the dust bag to the' transfer bag I; after which the string or resilient band 8 is removed and the insert member is removed from the transfer bag 1 and the cover member 5 placed, in position on the insert 2 by springing the members 3 and 4 outwardly. It will be here noted that the flange 2b provides a support to prevent the transfer bag I from beingeasily removed or drawn from over the insert member 2 whenit is supported by the member 8. The transfer bag 1 is then tied at its upper end or foldedTiver and disposed of as de-.
sired.
' Though I have shown and desoribeda particular constructiomcombination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not .wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination-and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of 'my invention the-construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims. v
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new andldesire to secure by Letters Patent is: 7
