A TTORNE Y Patented Mar. 3, 1936 2,0s2,9os ;AR.TICLE OF JEWELRY Marcel Boucher, Eltingville; N. Y., assignor to Mazer Bros., New York, N. Y.; a copartnership Application October 16, 1935, Serial No. 45,178 6 Claims. (01. 63-20) The invention relates to an article of jewelry and has particularly in mind what might be termed a composite article of jewelry.
- The principal object of the present invention is to provide a simple means for mounting a pair of ornamental dress clips in conjunction with 2.
pair of ear clips so as to provide a brooch. The brooch thus produced is highly ornamental, distinctive in appearance and extremely good look- 3 ing. Either the ear clips or the dress, clips may 3 worn as one may see fit.
Other advantages will become apparent as this specification proceeds. Referring to the drawings forming part thereof and in which preferred forms of the invention are illustrated:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the supporting member;
Fig. 2 is an elge view of same;
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan View;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of the ornamental dress clip;
Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on line 66 of Fig. 5;
Fig. '7 is an end view of the dress clip;
Fig. 8 is an edge view of an ear clip;
Fig. 9 is a bottom plan view of the assembled composite article of jewelry;
Fig. 10 is a sectional View taken on line l0l 0 of Fig. 9;
Fig. 11 is a face view; and
Fig. 12 is a face view of a slightly modified form.
The invention hereinafter described in detail is in many respects similar to that of my copending application Serial No. 44,371, dated October 10, 1935, in which a pair of dress clips are mounted on a supporting member.
Referring again to said drawings the supporting member l5 which is particularly illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4 comprises a pair of L-shaped bars, the legs I6 of which carry the pin or other fastening means H. The legs l8 are provided with tongues or integral extensions I9.
Pivoted at in ears 2| on the under side of the legs [8 are latch-members 22. The latchmembers are provided with upturned ends 23 and finger pieces 24.
The legs l8 of the L-shaped bars are joined together at their lower ends by a cross piece 25 and intermediate their ends by another crosspiece 26. Secured to the cross pieces 25 and 26 adjacent the legs [8 are ear clip-supporting members 27. The ear clip-supporting members are also soldered or otherwise secured at their outer ends to extensions 28 from the supporting a member. The-ear clip-supporting members are what might be termed rounded protuberances which conform substantially to the inside dimensions of the ear clip 30 illustrated in Fig. 8.
The ear clip 3!! is of conventional form having the face member M which may be decorated in any desired manner, spring hinge 3,2, and clipmember 33.
The dress clip 35, particularly illustrated in Figs. 5, 6 and 7, comprises the front ornamental face 36 to which is pivoted at 3? with a conventional type of spring hinge, the clip-member 38. The clip-member is provided at its intermediate portion with a slot or aperture 39. The abutment 40 for the spring portion 4| of the clip-member is also provided with a slot or aperture 42. The clip-member may be provided with one or more pointed members 43 to assist in holding the dress clip to a garment when it is so used. It is to be understood the front ornamental face 36 is decorated in any desired manner.
In assembling the composite article of jewelry the latch-members 22 are swung away from the supporting member as indicated in broken lines in Fig. 2 and the tongues I 9 of the supporting member are entered into the slots or apertures 42 in the region of the hinge portions of the dress clips. The ear clips 30 are positioned on their supporting members 27 and the straight edges 45 of the dress clips are brought into abutting relation with the sides of the dress clips as illustrated in Figs. 9 and 11. The latch-members 22 are swung inwardly with their upturned ends 23 engaging the slots 39 in the clip-members 38 of the dress clips 35. The front ornamental face members of the dress clips may be suitably recessed to accommodate the legs I 5 and I8. Other means may be utilized for supporting the ear clips.
The entire assembly is thus firmly and securely locked together to form a brooch of distinctive appearance. At the same time either the ear clips or the dress clips may be easily and quickly removed for individual use or other ear clips or dress clips substituted to present different effects.
Fig. 12 illustrates a modified form in which the ear clips may be separated and a mounting secured to the supporting member in which a stone may be set.
Changes in details of construction and arrangements of parts such as would occur to one skilled in the art are to be considered as coming within the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim 1. An article of jewelry having in combination, a supporting'member provided with a pair of L- shaped bars, dress clips carried by said L-shaped bars, and a pair of ear clips carried by said supporting member, said ear clips being'positioned between said dress clips and in abutting relation thereto. V
2. An article of jewelry having in combination, a supporting member provided with a pair'of L- shaped bars, dress clips carried. by said L-shaped bars, rounded protuberances formed on said supporting member between said L-shaped bars, and a pair of ear clips supported on said rounded protuberances, said dress clips and said ear clips being in abutting relation to each other.
3. An article of jewelry having in combination,
a supporting member provided} with a pair of L- shaped bars, tongues formed on said L-shaped bars, latch-members pivotally mounted on said L-shaped bars, dress clips carried by said 'L- shaped bars, said dress clips being provided with apertures to cooperate with said tongues and saidlatch-members so as to firmly position said dress clips on said supporting member, and a pair of ear clips carried by said supporting member, said ear clips being positioned between said dress clips and-inabutting relation thereto.
4. .An article of jewelry having in combination, a supporting member provided with a pair of L- shaped bars, tongues formed on said L-shaped bars, latch-members pivotally mounted on said L- shaped bars, dress clips carried on said L-shaped bars, said dress clips being provided with apertures to cooperate with said tongues and said latch-members so as to firmly position said dress clips on said supporting member, rounded protuberances formed on said supporting member between said L-shaped bars, and a pair of ear clips supported on said rounded protuberances, said dress clips and said ear clips being in abutting relation to each other.
5. An article of jewelry having in combination, a supporting member, tongues formed on said supporting member, latch-members pivotally mounted on said supporting member, a pair of dress clips carried by said supporting member, said dress clips being spaced away from each other on said supporting member and being provided with apertures to cooperate with said tongues and said latch-members, and a pair of ear clips carried by said supporting member, said ear clips being positioned between said dress clips and in abutting relation thereto.
6. An article of jewelry having in combination, a supporting member, tongues formed on said supporting member, latch-members pivotally mounted on said supporting member, a pair of dress clips carried by said supporting member, said dress clips being spaced away from each other on said supporting member and being provided with apertures to cooperate with said tongues and said latch members, a pair of ear clips carried by said supporting member, said ear clips being spaced away from each other, a mounting carried by said supporting member and positioned between said ear clips, said ear clips and said dress clips being in abutting relation to each other and to said mounting.
