Description

Feb. 25, 1936. J. PERsooNs' El AL LINEN WASHING MACHINE Filed Feb. 27, '1934 \Tuies Persoons Patented Feb. 25,- 1936 um'riao STATES LINEN WASHING MACHINE Jules Persoons and Alphonse Persoons, Thildonck, Belgium Application February 2'7, 1934, Serial No. 713,094 In Belgium March 1, 1933 2 Claims.
Our invention relates to a linen washing machine of the kind in which 'the linen is submitted to the action of a water stream without use of mechanical devices exerting on the linen a. rubbing or beating action which is liable to destroy it or to produce an undue wear.
It has for its object to ensure an easy, regular and sure passage through the heap of linen of a water current produced by means of a pump and U a complete and quick removal of the impuritiest With this object in view, our invention essentially consists inthe special arrangements and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the appended claims.
On the annexed drawing which shows by way of example a form of embodiment of the invention: I designates a hearth supported on legs 2 and on which rests a vat 3 which is closed with a lid 4. The bottom of this vat carries through 20 the intermediary of legs 5 a joint 6 in which is screwed another joint I which is'bodily connected with the bottom 8 of another vat 9 having perforated side walls and containing the linen to be washed.
25 According to the invention, a perforated sleeve or tube Hlis placed in the centre of vat 9. Besides, a circular plate ll, provided at its centre with a sleeve or tube I! closed at its upper end, and surrounding the sleeve l0, rests on the heap 30 of linen. This plate II is intended to'exert a pressure upon the linen and can be fixed to the sleeve III by means of two or three racks l3 formed on the tube l2 and cooperating with lugs or projections it formed at the upper end of the 35 sleeve l0."
The circular plate ll may thus take adjustable positions with respect to the lugs l4 and may be placed at adjustable heights in the vat 9.
A water circulation can bev established between 40 the outer vat 3 and the inner vat 9 by. means of a centrifugal pump l5 connected. at iii to the vat 3 and in relation through a pipe I! with the perforated sleeve in of the vat 9.
When the machine is used, the linen is placed in 45 the vat 9 and is compressed therein to the required pressure by. means of the circular 'plate II. The vats 3 and 9 having been partly filled with a washing liquid for instance with soapy water, when the water has reached the required 59 temperature under'the heating action of the hearth l, the centrifugal pump I5 is put into action, it sucks the hot water from the vat 3 and forces it through the pipe I'I into the perforated sleeve 10. This water runs out through the apertures of the sleeve I0, circulates through the heap of linen in which anyhollow or free space has been suppressed by the compression, and returns to the vat 3 after having passed through the apertures in the side walls of the vat 9.
By reason of the central feeding with water 'under pressure and of the pressure exerted upon the heap of linen by the circular plate ll, all the impurities are removed without the linen being subjected to the least deterioration, and undcr the action of a regular, continuous and forced stream of soapy water, the washing is effected under perfect conditions and in a particularly short time.
What we claim is:
1. In a machine for the washing of linen, in combination, a first vat, a second vat inside the first vat and adapted to contain the linen to be washed the said second vat being provided with perforated side walls, a pump, a' perforated central tube extending in the said second vat, the said tube being provided at its upper portion with projections, a plate at the upper portion of the second vat whereby a pressure is exerted upon the linen, a tubular portion bodily connected with the said plate and provided with racks engaging the projections of the tube arranged in the said second vat whereby the said plate is adapted to be fixed in adjustable positions to the said tube, means whereby a washing liquid is fed from the said pump into the said perforated tube, passes afterwards through the linen and flows back in passing through the outer vat to the pump.
2. In a linen washing machine in combination with a first vat, a second vat inside the said first vat and adapted to contain the linen to be washed. the said second vat being provided with perforated side walls, pumping means, a perforated central tube extending in the said second vat, a 7 plate at the upper portion of the second vat whereby a pressure is exerted upon the linen, means whereby the said plate is adapted to be fixed in an adjustable position to the said perforated central tube and means, whereby a washing liquid is fed from said-pumping means into the said perforated tube, passes subsequently through the linen and flows'back in passing through the outer vat to the pumping means.
