Description

F. L. BROEREN PAPER DISPENSER Filed April 15, 1955 d/Z @faam/z, i@
Patented Jan. 14, 1936 UNITED STATES orifice PAPER BESPENSEIR,
Application April l5, 1935, Serial No. 16,349
2 Claims.
This specification is in part a continuation of application Serial No. 736,155, filed July 20, 1934.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved and simplified form of device for dispensing interfolded paper sheets, particularly waxed paper sheets.
In particular the invention relates to the construction and mounting ior the follower plate so disposed asto cause the plate, in traveling from the rear toward the front of the dispenser during the depletion of the stack, to maintain substantially uniform Contact with the rear of the stack resting upon an inclined oor and without material slippage or displacement due to the swing of the follower plate which is carried upon the free end of a link pivoted below the floor level.
This and other objects, as will hereinafter appear, are accomplished by this invention, which is fully described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein,-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dispenser embodying this invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical section on the line 2 of Fig. 1; f
Fig. 3 is a somewhat reduced partial vertical section on the broken line 3--3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing the edges of the interfolded sheets in expanded form.
The embodiment illustrated comprises a metal box or cabinet It having a cover I I hingedly secured thereto at I2. The front of the cabinet is provided with a transverse slot I3 through which the sheets A are adapted to be pulled in a well known manner which will later be described. Behind this front are located bearing plates I4 and I5 which provide a throat converging toward the slot I3 and afford a limited surface contact for the foremost sheet of the stack, which is bowed forward in the center toward the slot by the pressure of the follower plate presently to be described.
The sheets, in stack formation, rest upon a floor I6 which is preferably inclined downwardly toward the front, and the sheets are pressed forwardly by means of a follower plate Il which is pivotally connected at i8 to the upper end of a link I9, the lower end of the link being pivotally connected to a pin Zi) which is carried by a member 2| secured to the bottom of the cabinet near the rear wall thereof. The link I9 is movable back and forth through a slot 22 in the floor It and is normally urged toward the front of the cabinet by means of a coiled spring 23 passing around the pin, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
Thus the group of sheets of waxed paper or the like, which are previously interfolded as shown (C1. mi2-62) in Fig. 4, are placed in front of the follower plate Il, the edge of the foremost sheet being passed through the horizontal slot I3. Thus as the user pulls on the front sheet A, shown in full lines, it becomes withdrawn through the slot, at the same time pulling through this same slot the forward edge of the next interfolded sheet, which then assumes the dotted line position.
The length of the link I9 and the location of its axis are so computed with relation to the inclination of the floor I6 down which the sheets travel in the depletion of the stack that the chord of the arc of movement of the free end of the link will lie substantially in parallelism with the oblique plane of the floor, so that as the follower plate advances it will not be materially displaced from its area of contact against the medial region of the stack, with the result that there will be but slight slippage due to the fact that the stack travels forward upon an oblique surface while the follower plate travels through the arc of movement of the link upon which the follower plate is supported.
To facilitate the operation of drawing the first sheet through the slot I3, theend of the slot is cut out at the side I3a so as to permit the operator to insert his finger or a pointed instrument under the foremost sheet of paper, thereby enabling him to draw it through the front slot.
A slot Ib is provided at one or both ends of the f cabinet, through which the operator may observe when the supply of paper sheets needs replenishing.
While the device is adapted for the dispensing of paper sheets generally, it is particularly well adapted for dispensing waxed sheets which tend to slide on one another, the arrangement being one that prevents displacement of the sheets in the stack and permits withdrawal of the outermost sheet without disarranging the remaining sheets.
I claim:
1. A dispenser for sheets of paper comprising a container having a front panel provided with a transversely extending slot positioned intermediately the upper and lower edges of said sheets held adjacent thereto through which the sheets may be withdrawn singly, a forwardly and downwardly inclined oor having its rear portion elevated above the level of the bottom of the container for supporting the lower edges of sheets composing a stack, said floor being provided in the dispenser, a follower plate pivoted to the upper free end of the link, and a spring acting against the link for urging the follower plate forward so as to hold said sheets in cornpressed condition adjacent said transverse slot.
2. A dispenser for sheets of paper comprising a container having in its front wall a transversely extending discharge slot positioned intermediately the upper and lower edges of said sheets held adjacent thereto through which sheets may be withdrawn singly, a forwardly and downwardly inclined floor for supporting a stack of sheets and feeding them standing vertically toward the discharge slot, said floor being provided in its rear portion with a slot, a link extending through said last named slot and pivoted below the floor, a follower plate pivoted to the upper free end of the link, and means for urging the follower plate forward so as to hold said sheets in compressed condition adjacent said transverse slot, the inclination of the oor and the chord of the arc of movement of the free end of the link being ap- 10 proximately parallel.
