UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK J. GROTEVENT, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MAI LING-PACKAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,720, dated April 23, 1878; application filed March 13, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK J. GRorE- VENT, of Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Package, of which the following is. a specification:
Figure l is a perspective view of my im proved package. tion of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a convenient and inexpensive package for transporting small quantities of powdered substances as samples.
The invention consists in a box having a Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sechinged lid at each end, and contained by a paper Wrapper and a cloth wrapper, both of which are wrapped permanently around the box, and are folded over upon the lids at the ends of the box, and held in place by a cord, which may be easily unfastened.
Referring to the drawing, A is a box made of pasteboard, or other suitable material,
- which is provided at each end with a hinged The lids being closed, the paper wrapper O is first folded over upon the lids from the four different sides of the box. The cloth wrapper D is then folded over in the same manner. The package is then fastened by passing the string a, which is attached to the cloth Wrapper at one end of the box, through the loop b, which is attached to the cloth wrapper at the opposite end of the box.
When it is required to examine the contents of the package, the string a is untied and the two wrappers are unfolded from one end of the box. The lid may now be opened by drawing the string 0, attached to it for that purpose, when the contents of the package may be readily examined.
The lid and wrappers are easily replaced, when the package may be tied up as before.
The advantages claimed for my improved package are that its contents may be readily examined, and it cannot be crushed so as to cause it to leak.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A package consisting of a box having lids at one or both ends, and provided with an inner and an outer wrapper, and a fastening device, substantially as shown and described.
FREDERICK JACOB GROTEVENT.
