1 Claim.
This invention relates to mountings for vibratory diaphragm devices.
This invention has utility when incorporated in horns or audible signals especially of the electromagnetic diaphragm type devices.
Referring to the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front view of an embodiment of the invention in an electric horn say of the type as usual for motor vehicles, motor boats, etc.;
Fig. 2 is a detail view of the mounting main bracket and leaf independently of the horn device proper; and
Fig. 3 is a side elevation, partly broken away, of the device in an embodiment with the horn of Fig. 1, the main bracket being of a clamp type.
Casing l is shown as having electro-magnetic actuator 2 for effecting vibration of diaphragm 3 and thereby generating sound for amplification of the horn between the casing l and the trumpet 4.
This spring leaf is positively clamped by nuts l2 at the bolts Ill. The bolts I serve as an effective restraining means for the terminal portion of the spring leaf 9 as adjacent the mounted vibratory diaphragm device and within its diameter. The normal plane of this single spring leaf 9 is laterally offset as to thediaphragm 3 and parallel to the plane of such diaphragm 3. It is thus seen that not only the bolts H] but the rivets 8 provide a resistance against terminal flexing of the spring leaf 9, but leave such spring leaf 9 to have a degree of freedom intermediate its extent parallel to the diaphragm 3.
In instances wherein it is desired to mount the audible signal devices instead of on a plate or 5 frame structure 5, mounting may occur on rod l3 in which instance flexible strips l4- say of fiber or rubber may be located about such rod l3, and v shaped plate l5 opposes V-shaped primary clamp member l6, and be provided with 10 bolts. for operating this clamp in bringing the packing strips l4 into compressed and holding position as to the rod I 3. This bracket I6 is provided with rivets 8 mounting the spring leaf 9. As thus located laterally offset relatively to 15 the diaphragm 3 and at a plane parallel thereto, the vibration take-up of the leaf 9 may be as herein disclosed supplemented by the packing strips l4 against bringing into the sound device external noise or chatter.
What is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is: V
A mounting for a vibratory diaphragm type of horn having a housing part providing a flange, a pair of spaced bolts through the flange within the diameter and adjacent the periphery thereof to assemble the diaphragm therewith, said mounting consisting of a single freely flexible spring leaf extending radially from and in a plane transversely of the axis of the diaphragm, said leaf providing a pair of spaced openings through which the bolts extend, means coacting with said bolts to rigidly secure one end of the leaf to said horn, and a rigidbracket member rigidly fixed with the remote end of said leaf.
