Description
- The present invention relates to clothing which is specially designed to allow individuals to receive medications. More particularly, the present invention provides clothing articles which have specially designed openings to allow for patients to receive medications through medical IVs or ports. In addition, other benefits and uses can be achieved by use of the openings.
- Many different medications are injectable. Of these some need to be injected via IV or chest port. These medications can then take several hours to be administered. Having medications administered in such a way can cause discomfort for the recipient.
- When using normal clothing it may have to be removed in order for the medication delivery items to be properly connected to the recipient. This can leave the recipient cold or uncomfortably exposed in a public area. If the recipient puts regular clothing back on the clothing may rub against the medication delivery items causing irritation or worse dislodge the medication delivery device. Other drawbacks may include stretching of clothing causing it to become destroyed after receiving medication.
- There are some clothing items currently on the market which attempt to address some of these issues. However, each has a drawback addressed by the present invention. These clothing articles attempt to solve one problem but create numerous others. For example, they may allow for easier administration of medication however, they do nothing to protect a wearer from irritations of closure devices such as zippers or hook and loop fasteners.
- In some instances, these clothing items are tactless. They do nothing to ensure that the clothing looks like any other clothing. This means that it becomes obvious to the general public that someone is taking an injectable medication. Patients receiving such medication have the right to anonymity and this should carry over to the clothing which they wear to support the administration of medication.
- Consequently, there is a need for an improvement in the art of clothing articles having openings. The present invention substantially diverges in design elements from the known art while at the same time solves a problem many people face when receiving medications via IV or medical ports. In this regard the present invention substantially fulfills these needs.

In this embodiment the first zipper tab 504 b and the second zipper tab 504 c can be used to close the right chest port opening 503 after a medication chest tube has been installed.
- In different embodiments the openings 501, 503 can serve different purposes. In one embodiment the left chest port opening 501 and the right chest port opening 503 are curved from the outer shoulder inward toward the middle of the garment then back out toward the hip area. This curve will allow for many uses of the garment described herein. For example, but not limited to, the garment can be used for: feeding tubes, ostomy bags, catheters, stomach injections, post surgery access, heart monitors, breastfeeding, ports, and IVS. This ensures a user finds tasks at least a little easier which would otherwise be difficult and stressful.
- It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.
