Definitions
- the present invention generally relates to wristwatch supports and more particularly a surface-based wristwatch support.
- the present invention is primarily for functional utility purposes to display the wristwatch on a surface to enable the user to conveniently view the watch face, while a conventional watch support could provide this functional utility, the present invention works to minimize the bulk and weight of the wristwatch support to simply maximize the visibility of the wrist watch, as the present invention practically disappears behind the watch face and band when looked at in a frontal view being as if the wristwatch was supporting itself on the surface, whereas conventional wristwatch retail displays focus on ancillary packaging as an attractive “house” or surroundings for the wristwatch to be displayed within.
- a support element for a wristwatch formed as a tubular block of material, with the internal diameter of the tubular block providing additional volume to house a further article in this normally unused volume.
- a wristwatch display case that for the wristwatch support uses a holder (Element 3 —see FIG. 3 ) of an angular shape that forms a multiple flat sided tube type shape that supports the watch case and band, with the holder being typically much wider than the watch case and band for lateral stability, and as the holder is in a larger display case, the excessive width of the holder outside of the watch case and band is not that obvious as opposed to the present invention that appears to make the support invisible when looking at the wristwatch directly in front of the watch face so as to not distract from the appearance of the wristwatch.
- the present invention is a support apparatus for displaying a watch face bezel and crystal of a wristwatch, wherein the watch face bezel and crystal have an opposing watch case back, further the wristwatch has a band of links for removably engaging a user's wrist, wherein the band of links has an open state being removable from the user's wrist and a closed state being secured to the user's wrist.
- the support apparatus including a substantially planar base section that has a substantially planar base section lengthwise axis, the substantially planar base section is substantially parallel in operation to the surface of the desktop, the surface, or the shelf, the planar base section having a first end portion and an opposing second end portion with the substantially planar base section lengthwise axis spanning therebetween, the substantially planar base section having a substantially planar base section inner surface portion and an opposing substantially planar base section outer surface portion with a substantially planar base section short-wise axis positioned perpendicular to the lengthwise axis.
- the support apparatus also includes a flexible cantilever arm having a flexible cantilever arm proximal end portion and an opposing flexible cantilever arm distal end portion with an arm axis spanning therebetween, the flexible cantilever arm having a flexible cantilever arm inner surface portion and an opposing flexible cantilever arm outer surface portion with a flexible cantilever arm perpendicular axis positioned perpendicular to said arm axis, wherein the flexible cantilever arm proximal end portion is flexibly affixed to the planar base first end portion at a first acute angle defined by the substantially planar base section lengthwise axis and the arm axis at a first intersection point, with the flexible cantilever arm distal end portion terminating into a first free moving flexible cantilever arm cantilever end being suspended over a portion of the substantially planar base first end portion inner surface portion in a first plane.
- a flexible extension element having a flexible extension element proximal end portion and an opposing flexible extension element distal end portion with a flexible extension element axis spanning therebetween, the flexible extension element having a flexible extension element inner surface portion and an opposing flexible extension element outer surface portion with a flexible extension element radial-wise axis spanning therebetween.
- the flexible extension element proximal end portion is flexibly affixed at an interface to the planar base section second end portion, wherein the flexible extension element forms a dual radii arc that is suspended over a portion of the planar base second end portion inner surface portion in the first plane, wherein the flexible cantilever arm and the flexible extension element are positioned on a same side of the planar base portion, the flexible extension element arc is formed by a primary radius having a primary radius length and a smaller secondary radius having a smaller secondary radius length.
- the primary and secondary radii have respective offset origins defined as a primary origin and a secondary origin.
- the primary origin is positioned at the primary radius length to be tangent at a primary tangent point disposed at the interface between the substantially planar base section and the flexible extension element with the planar base section second end portion, with the primary origin being within the first plane and substantially perpendicular to the substantially planar base section lengthwise axis and the substantially planar base section inner surface portion.
- the primary radius swings a primary arc within the first plane from the primary tangent point for approximately one-hundred thirty-five degrees moving away from the substantially planar base section terminating in a second tangent point, the secondary origin is positioned at the secondary radius length to be tangent at the secondary tangent point with the secondary origin extending inward in a substantially perpendicular manner to the primary arc at the secondary tangent point terminating at the secondary radius length.
- the secondary radius swings a secondary arc within the first plane from the secondary tangent point for approximately one-hundred eighty degrees moving away from and then toward the substantially planar base section to form the dual radii arc, wherein the flexible extension element distal end portion terminates into a second free moving flexible cantilever arm cantilever end being suspended over a portion of the substantially planar base second end portion inner surface portion in the first plan.
- a portion of the watch case back is placed adjacent to the flexible cantilever arm between the flexible cantilever arm proximal end portion and the flexible cantilever arm distal end portion on the flexible cantilever arm outer surface portion, that results in the watch face resting at the first acute angle in relation to the surface of the desk or shelf, further the watch band with links being in the closed state is placed about said substantially planar base section and the flexible extension element via manually compressing the flexible cantilever arm and the flexible extension element resulting in the watch band with links being stretched over the substantially planar base section and the flexible extension element being in contact with the outer surface of both said substantially planar base section and the flexible extension element.
- substantially planar base section is placed upon the surface of the desktop or the shelf with the watch band with links being disposed between the substantially planar base section outer surface and the surface of the desktop or the shelf, resulting in the wrist watch face being displayed at an obtuse angle relative to the surface of the desktop or the shelf to facilitate a user viewing the watch face at the near optimal line-of-sight perspective from the user positioned at the desk or the user positioned adjacent to the shelf.

Abstract
A support apparatus for displaying a wrist watch face upon a surface that is oriented to be easily viewed by an individual, the support apparatus includes a base section, a flexible cantilever arm, and a flexible extension element all together that form a flexible, sheet music base clef symbol type shape, wherein the support apparatus is disposed within the inside of the watch band and faces the watch case back, thus operationally giving the flexible watch band upward support on the surface to hold the watch face at an obtuse angle in relation to the surface for convenient viewing by the individual.
Description
- There are no related applications.
- The present invention generally relates to wristwatch supports and more particularly a surface-based wristwatch support.
- Traditional watch supports are typically for sales or retail display purposes to present the watch in a most aesthetic context for maximum appeal to the potential purchaser, the present invention is primarily for functional utility purposes to display the wristwatch on a surface to enable the user to conveniently view the watch face, while a conventional watch support could provide this functional utility, the present invention works to minimize the bulk and weight of the wristwatch support to simply maximize the visibility of the wrist watch, as the present invention practically disappears behind the watch face and band when looked at in a frontal view being as if the wristwatch was supporting itself on the surface, whereas conventional wristwatch retail displays focus on ancillary packaging as an attractive “house” or surroundings for the wristwatch to be displayed within.
- Looking in particular at the wristwatch support prior art in United States Patent Application Publication Number US2022/0087449 to Kissling, disclosed is a support element for a wristwatch formed as a tubular block of material, with the internal diameter of the tubular block providing additional volume to house a further article in this normally unused volume.
- Next, in the wristwatch support prior art in United States Patent Application Publication Number US2017/0036726 to Fitz, disclosed is a smartwatch holder for a bicycle utilizing a handlebar or steering stem mount to hold the smartwatch, however, being without the band, thus requiring wristwatch band removal to use.
- Further, in the wristwatch support prior art in United States Patent Application Publication Number US2019/0317453 to Da Ros, discloses a wristwatch display box with a structure to support the wristwatch having pivotable movement and a prismatic joint to allow a high degree of different watch display positions within the display box for a high degree of wristwatch display aesthetics.
- Continuing, in the wristwatch support prior art in United States Patent Application Publication Number US2019/0281937 to Kissling, discloses a wristwatch display case that for the wristwatch support uses a holder (Element 3—see
FIG. - This gives an idea of the current state of the art in the surface wristwatch support arts, wherein the references Kissling '449 and '937 have the conventional tube type shape and Da Ros has an adjustable structure, with Fitz having a bar mount clamp, all of which are highly visible in conjunction with the wristwatch support/display case being primarily for a retail attractive display. The present invention is designed to appear such that to make the support itself mostly invisible when looking at the wristwatch directly in front of the watch face so as to not distract from the appearance of the wristwatch and to have the wristwatch appear to be supporting itself upon the surface, such that the support has minimal visual impact in relation to the wristwatch.
- Broadly, the present invention is a support apparatus for displaying a watch face bezel and crystal of a wristwatch, wherein the watch face bezel and crystal have an opposing watch case back, further the wristwatch has a band of links for removably engaging a user's wrist, wherein the band of links has an open state being removable from the user's wrist and a closed state being secured to the user's wrist. Wherein the support apparatus extends from resting on a desktop surface of a desk or any surface or a shelf, wherein the wristwatch face is displayed at an acute angle relative to the desktop surface or other surface to facilitate a user viewing the watch face at an obtuse angle near an optimal line-of-sight perspective from the user positioned at the desk or the user positioned adjacent to another surface or the shelf.
- Further included in the support apparatus also includes a flexible cantilever arm having a flexible cantilever arm proximal end portion and an opposing flexible cantilever arm distal end portion with an arm axis spanning therebetween, the flexible cantilever arm having a flexible cantilever arm inner surface portion and an opposing flexible cantilever arm outer surface portion with a flexible cantilever arm perpendicular axis positioned perpendicular to said arm axis, wherein the flexible cantilever arm proximal end portion is flexibly affixed to the planar base first end portion at a first acute angle defined by the substantially planar base section lengthwise axis and the arm axis at a first intersection point, with the flexible cantilever arm distal end portion terminating into a first free moving flexible cantilever arm cantilever end being suspended over a portion of the substantially planar base first end portion inner surface portion in a first plane.
- Also included in the support apparatus is a flexible extension element having a flexible extension element proximal end portion and an opposing flexible extension element distal end portion with a flexible extension element axis spanning therebetween, the flexible extension element having a flexible extension element inner surface portion and an opposing flexible extension element outer surface portion with a flexible extension element radial-wise axis spanning therebetween. The flexible extension element proximal end portion is flexibly affixed at an interface to the planar base section second end portion, wherein the flexible extension element forms a dual radii arc that is suspended over a portion of the planar base second end portion inner surface portion in the first plane, wherein the flexible cantilever arm and the flexible extension element are positioned on a same side of the planar base portion, the flexible extension element arc is formed by a primary radius having a primary radius length and a smaller secondary radius having a smaller secondary radius length.
- Wherein the primary and secondary radii have respective offset origins defined as a primary origin and a secondary origin. The primary origin is positioned at the primary radius length to be tangent at a primary tangent point disposed at the interface between the substantially planar base section and the flexible extension element with the planar base section second end portion, with the primary origin being within the first plane and substantially perpendicular to the substantially planar base section lengthwise axis and the substantially planar base section inner surface portion. The primary radius swings a primary arc within the first plane from the primary tangent point for approximately one-hundred thirty-five degrees moving away from the substantially planar base section terminating in a second tangent point, the secondary origin is positioned at the secondary radius length to be tangent at the secondary tangent point with the secondary origin extending inward in a substantially perpendicular manner to the primary arc at the secondary tangent point terminating at the secondary radius length.
- Wherein operationally, a portion of the watch case back is placed adjacent to the flexible cantilever arm between the flexible cantilever arm proximal end portion and the flexible cantilever arm distal end portion on the flexible cantilever arm outer surface portion, that results in the watch face resting at the first acute angle in relation to the surface of the desk or shelf, further the watch band with links being in the closed state is placed about said substantially planar base section and the flexible extension element via manually compressing the flexible cantilever arm and the flexible extension element resulting in the watch band with links being stretched over the substantially planar base section and the flexible extension element being in contact with the outer surface of both said substantially planar base section and the flexible extension element.
- Wherein the substantially planar base section is placed upon the surface of the desktop or the shelf with the watch band with links being disposed between the substantially planar base section outer surface and the surface of the desktop or the shelf, resulting in the wrist watch face being displayed at an obtuse angle relative to the surface of the desktop or the shelf to facilitate a user viewing the watch face at the near optimal line-of-sight perspective from the user positioned at the desk or the user positioned adjacent to the shelf.
