Abstract
The present invention relates to a pocket square accessory designed to have a same design, pattern, and color as of a shirt worn underneath a suit jacket, blazer, and the like. The pocket square comes in different configurations, sizes, designs, and colors to match requirements of different users. In one embodiment, a combination of a shirt and a pocket accessory is disclosed. In some embodiments, the pocket square has one fastener, or a pair of fasteners, for releasably attaching to the fabric of the suit jacket for holding and retaining the pocket square. In one embodiment, the pocket square can match a woman's dress for complementing the dress. The pocket square can be pre-folded in a configuration or can be unfolded in a planar form wherein a user manually folds the pocket square for creating a puff.
Description
- The present application claims priority to, and the benefit of, U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/432,820, which was filed on Dec. 15, 2022 and is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
- The present invention relates generally to the field of pocket squares, pocket poofs, pocket puffs, and more. More specifically, the present invention relates to a novel clothing accessory in the form of a pocket poof for helping complement or enhance the wearer's look. The pocket poof is designed to match the wearer's shirt rather than tie. The poof is held securely and does not collapse. The pocket poof comes in a multitude of shapes with various designs, thereby enabling the user to effectively match a large array of outfits. Accordingly, the present disclosure makes specific reference thereto. Nonetheless, it is to be appreciated that aspects of the present invention are also equally applicable to other like applications, devices, and methods of manufacture.
- By way of background, a suit jacket, also called a lounge jacket, lounge coat, or suit coat, is a jacket in classic menswear that is part of a suit. Individuals like to wear suit jackets, blazers, and the like, for both formal and casual events. In fact, suits are fashionable and popular with young and old alike. However, such attire can be boring as they are generally in a single solid color. Individuals use different methods and combinations, such as wearing colored socks or ties to accentuate their attire. However, ties and socks are less visible to other individuals and therefore, are ineffective. Some individuals wear seasonal scarfs or other clothing to match the underneath shirt and to enhance their look but may get disappointed if they cannot achieve a certain look or style. Individuals desire an improved clothing accessory for enhancing their appearance while wearing suit jackets, coats, blazers, and the like.
- Some of the existing accessories such as a conventional pocket square are difficult to wear and typically matches a tie worn by a user. Conventional pocket squares collapse while being worn, therefore they can be disappointing for individuals. Individuals desire an improved pocket square or pocket poof for improving their look while wearing suit jackets, coats, and blazers.
- Therefore, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a clothing accessory for improving a look of a wearer wearing a suit jacket, blazer, and the like. There is also a long-felt need in the art for a dress accessory to accentuate a boring look of a suit jacket, a blazer, and the like. Additionally, there is a long-felt need in the art for a dress accessory that matches with a shirt worn underneath a suit jacket, a blazer, a coat, and the like. Moreover, there is a long-felt need in the art for a pocket square accessory that is easy to wear and that does not collapse while being worn. Furthermore, there is a long-felt need in the art of a pocket square that is designed to match the wearer's shirt rather than tie. Finally, there is a long-felt need in the art for a clothing accessory that complements the shirt worn beneath the suit or blazer or complements a woman's dress worn beneath a blazer.
- The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises a pocket square accessory for a suit jacket, coat, blazer, and the like. The pocket square accessory can include the same color, design, and/or print as that of a shirt configured to be worn underneath the suit jacket, blazer, and the like and further comprising a main body and a top body, the main body is generally rectilinear or square, the main body and the top body have a one piece construction, the main body is configured to be positioned within a breast pocket of a suit jacket, blazer, coat, and the like and the top body protrudes from the breast pocket. The pocket square has a front surface configured to face outwardly from a front surface of the suit jacket, blazer and the like and a rear surface configured to touch the lining or front surface of the suit jacket, blazer and the like when the pocket square is worn in the pocket. The rear surface of the pocket square having a VELCRO or magnetic fastener each at a bottom end thereof and at a top end thereof for securing and holding the pocket square wherein the fasteners are fabric friendly and are detachably attached to the suit jacket.
- In this manner, the pocket square accessory of the present invention for a suit jacket, coat, blazer, and the like accomplishes all of the forgoing objectives and provides users with a replacement pocket square designed to match the wearer's shirt rather than the wearer's tie. The pocket square is easy to wear and does not collapse. Further, the pocket square features numerous colors, styles, shapes, and designs to accommodate any wearer preference and improves a wearer's look with a complementary accessory. The pocket accessory eliminates use of uncomfortable and ineffective scarfs and other accessories for accentuating the look.
- The following presents a simplified summary in order to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the disclosed innovation. This summary is not an extensive overview, and it is not intended to identify key/critical elements or to delineate the scope thereof. Its sole purpose is to present some general concepts in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.
- The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises a pre-folded pocket square accessory configured to be worn in a breast pocket of a suit jacket, suit coat, blazer, jacket, and the like. The pocket square is designed to match with an exact fabric pattern of the shirt (i.e., dress shirt) worn beneath the suit or blazer. The pocket square further comprising a main body and an extended body, the main body is placed within the breast pocket and the extended body protrudes from the breast pocket, the pocket square having a hook and loop fastener positioned at the bottom end of the rear surface thereof and a hook and loop fastener positioned at the top end of the rear surface thereof, wherein the fasteners are detachably attached to the fabric of the suit jacket and retain the pocket square adjacent to, and partially within, the breast pocket for holding the pocket square.
- In yet another embodiment, the pocket square has fasteners in the form of snap buttons, magnets, clips, and more.
- In a further embodiment of the present invention, a combination of a shirt and a pocket square is disclosed. The shirt is one of at least a suit shirt, dress shirt, short-sleeve shirt, Cuban shirt, Polo shirt, T-shirt, and more; the shirt having a print or design and having one or a combination of two or more colors on the outer surface thereof, the pocket square is configured to be placed in a breast pocket of a suit jacket which the shirt is to be worn thereunder, the pocket square having the same print, design, texture, and in the same color(s) or combination of colors as of the shirt, the pocket square having a length of at least six inches and a width of at least five inches. The pocket square can be pre-folded in a predetermined form or can be a square or rectilinear piece of fabric which can be manually folded by a user.
- In a further embodiment of the present invention, a method for accentuating a look of a suit jacket is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing a pocket poof accessory, the pocket poof is designed to be worn in a breast pocket of the suit jacket, the pocket poof having a main body and poof portion; inserting the pocket poof inside the breast pocket such that at least a majority of the main body remains within the pocket and the poof portion protrudes from the pocket, wherein the pocket poof has the same design, color, print, texture, and fabric as of a shirt worn underneath the suit jacket by a user.
- In a further embodiment of the present invention, the pocket poof having at least one fastener configured to be releasably attached to the suit jacket for holding the pocket poof.
- In a further embodiment of the present invention, the fastener can be one of magnetic, VELCRO, snap button, clip, and more.
- In one embodiment, the pocket poof is pre-folded and alternatively, can be planar, rectilinear, and can be folded by a user before inserting into the breast pocket.
- Numerous benefits and advantages of this invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art to which it pertains upon reading and understanding of the following detailed specification.
- To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, certain illustrative aspects of the disclosed innovation are described herein in connection with the following description and the annexed drawings. Other advantages and novel features will become apparent from the following detailed description when considered in conjunction with the drawings.

- As noted above, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a clothing accessory for improving a look of a wearer wearing a suit jacket, blazer, and the like. There is also a long-felt need in the art for a dress accessory to accentuate a boring look of a suit jacket, a blazer, and the like. Additionally, there is a long-felt need in the art for a dress accessory that matches with a shirt worn underneath a suit jacket, a blazer, a coat, and the like. Moreover, there is a long-felt need in the art for a pocket square accessory that is easy to wear and that does not collapse while being worn. Furthermore, there is a long-felt need in the art of a pocket square that is designed to match the wearer's shirt rather than tie. Finally, there is a long-felt need in the art for a clothing accessory that complements the shirt worn beneath the suit or blazer or complements a woman's dress worn beneath a blazer.
- The present invention, in one exemplary embodiment, is a combination of a shirt and a pocket square. The shirt is one of at least a suit shirt, a short-sleeve shirt, a Cuban shirt, a Polo shirt, a T-shirt, a dress shirt, and more, the shirt having a print or design and having one or a combination of two or more colors on the outer surface thereof, the pocket square is configured be placed in a breast pocket of a suit jacket which the shirt is to be worn thereunder, the pocket square having the same print, design, texture, fabric and in the same color or combination of colors as of the shirt, the pocket square having a length of at least six inches and a width of at least five inches. The pocket square can be pre-folded in a predetermined form or can be a square or rectilinear piece of fabric, which can be manually folded by a user.
- Pocket poofs, pocket handkerchiefs or pocket squares are men's and women's dress accessory oftentimes positioned in breast-pockets of suit jackets, vests, coats, dresses, or other clothing apparel so that a portion of the accessory is visible. This dress accessory personalizes a coat and adds panache. Further, the poof also effectively accentuates the look of a wearer.
- Referring initially to the drawings,
FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of one potential embodiment of pocket poof of the present invention in accordance with the disclosed architecture. Thepocket poof 100 of the present invention is designed as a replacement pocket square for matching a wearer's shirt rather than a wearer's tie. Thepoof 100 includes afront surface 102 and arear surface 104, thefront surface 102 is configured to face outwardly from a user and therear surface 104 is configured to face towards the body of a wearer when thepoof 100 is worn by a wearer and is received in a pocket of a suit jacket as illustrated inFIG. 2 . - More specifically, the poof 100 has a generally rectilinear or square
main body 106 and anextendable portion 108 positioned on a top of themain body 106. Theextendable portion 108 is upwardly projecting, having substantially triangular, oval or any other conventional shape and is configured to protrude from the pocket as illustrated in subsequent figures of the present invention. At least a majority of themain body 106 remains inside the pocket of the suit jacket, blazer and the like when used by a user. In the preferred embodiment, thepocket square 100 is pre-folded enabling a user to easily place the poof 100 inside the pocket without manually folding the pocket square which is cumbersome and deteriorates dimensions and look of thepocket square 100. It should be noted that an extendable portion of different embodiments of the present invention can be pre-folded to any conventional shape, including, but not limited to, Tiara, Fedora, Vortex, Portico, Eclipse, Velocity, Gazebo, and more. Other configurations are anticipated, and any pre-folded configuration can be utilized without departing from the scope of the present invention. - The
rear surface 104 of thepoof 100 has afastener 110 positioned near thebottom end 112 and asecond fastener 114 positioned at thetop end 116 thereof for enabling a secure positioning of thepoof 100 while being worn inside the pocket. The 110, 114 are preferable fabric friendly hook and loop fasteners that easily and releasably adhere to any natural or synthetic fabric. In other embodiments of the present invention, thefasteners 110, 114 can be magnetic fasteners, snap buttons, shank buttons, hooks, grippers, and more. Thefasteners 110, 114 enable thefasteners pocket square 100 to remain intact and upright, while prohibiting the pocket square 100 from collapsing or hanging while being worn, and are releasably secured to the fabric of suit jacket. Themain body 106 of thepoof 100 extends from thebottom end 112 to an intersection (shown through a dashed line 118) across thepoof 100. Thefront surface 102 and therear surface 104 can have the same color, design, and/or print and can also have a different design, print, color, and more. - The pocket square, for example, commonly has a height H of less than six inches, a width W of less than five inches, or both. It should be noted that the width and/or height dimension can vary to meet different requirements of users. The
pocket poof 100 can come in different colors, designs, fabrics, and sizes, while also configured in pre-folded and unfolded orientations so that a user can readily change out the style/color of thepocket poof 100 and replace the newly selected pocket square based on the design of a shirt. The pocket square of the present invention may be sold as an isolated product or in combination with a matching shirt or other apparel. -
FIG. 2 illustrates a perspective view of a combination of a shirt and one embodiment of the designer pocket square of the present invention in accordance with the disclosed architecture. In the present embodiment, thepocket square 100 comes in combination with ashirt 202 such that the poof 100 can include thesame fabric pattern 204 as of theshirt 202 enabling a user to match theshirt 202 worn beneath a suit or blazer. Thepocket square 100 can be designed using the same fabric material or different fabric material, but having the same design as that of the associatedshirt 202. The same fabric design or pattern helps in improving a wearer's look with a complementary accessory and accentuates their outfit. -
FIG. 3 illustrates a perspective view showing the exemplary pocket poof ofFIG. 1 inserted within pocket of a blazer in accordance with the disclosed architecture. Thepocket square 100 is positioned inside thepocket 302 of thesuit blazer 304 such that a portion of themain body 106 is positioned within thepocket 302 and is not visible from the outside. Thefastener 110 can be pressed against aninside lining 306 fabric of theblazer 304 for releasably securing thepoof 100 inside thepocket 302. - The
extended portion 108 protrudes from thepocket 302 such that thetop end 308 of thepocket 302 coincides with the dashed line 118 (shown inFIG. 1 ) of thepoof 100. Theextended portion 108 can be secured using thefastener 114 against theinside lining 306 thereby preventing theextended portion 108 from collapsing while thepoof 100 is inserted inside thepocket 302. In operation, the fastener strips 110, 114 are adapted to be placed on aninside lining 306 of theblazer 304 for securing and holding thepocket square 100. -
FIG. 4 illustrates a perspective view showing another embodiment of the combination of a shirt and pocket square of the present invention in accordance with the disclosed architecture. In the present embodiment, theshirt 402 andpocket square 400 may come in a combination. Thepocket square 400 is planar, generally rectilinear, soft, and can be made of the same fabric and design as of the associatedshirt 402. The pocketsquare accessory 400 can be folded manually by a user to form a poof such thepoof portion 406 of thepocket square 400 protrudes from thepocket 404 of thesuit jacket 408. Thepocket square 400 can have the hook and loop fasteners (not shown) as described in other embodiments of the present invention. -
FIG. 5 illustrates a perspective view showing another embodiment of the pocket poof of the present invention in accordance with the disclosed architecture. In the present embodiment, thepocket poof 500 is unfolded and has a hook andloop fastener 502 positioned on therear surface 504 at approximately three quarters from thebottom end 506. Thepocket poof 500 is folded by a user to spread out thetop portion 508 for creating a puff such that thefastener 502 is used for detachably attaching thepocket poof 500 to the fabric of a suit jacket for holding thepocket poof 500 securely without collapsing. - The pocket squares of different embodiments of the present invention are reusable, machine-washable, soft and can be used for all types of jackets, blazers, and more. The pocket square can also be designed of a fabric of a woman's dress so the poof on the jacket/blazer and dress complements each other.
- Certain terms are used throughout the following description and claims to refer to particular features or components. As one skilled in the art will appreciate, different persons may refer to the same feature or component by different names. This document does not intend to distinguish between components or features that differ in name but not structure or function. As used herein “pocket square accessory”, “pocket square”, “pocket poof”, “pre-folded pocket square”, and “unfolded pocket poof” are interchangeable and refer to the pocket

100, 400, 500 of the present invention can be of any suitable size and configuration as is known in the art without affecting the overall concept of the invention, provided that it accomplishes the above-stated objectives. One of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that the pocketsquare accessory 100, 400, 500 as shown in the FIGS. are for illustrative purposes only, and that many other sizes and shapes of the pocketsquare accessory 100, 400, 500 are well within the scope of the present disclosure. Although the dimensions of the pocketsquare accessory 100, 400, 500 are important design parameters for user convenience, the pocketsquare accessory 100, 400, 500 may be of any size that ensures optimal performance during use and/or that suits the user's needs and/or preferences.square accessory - Various modifications and additions can be made to the exemplary embodiments discussed without departing from the scope of the present invention. While the embodiments described above refer to particular features, the scope of this invention also includes embodiments having different combinations of features and embodiments that do not include all of the described features. Accordingly, the scope of the present invention is intended to embrace all such alternatives, modifications, and variations as fall within the scope of the claims, together with all equivalents thereof.
- What has been described above includes examples of the claimed subject matter. It is, of course, not possible to describe every conceivable combination of components or methodologies for purposes of describing the claimed subject matter, but one of ordinary skill in the art may recognize that many further combinations and permutations of the claimed subject matter are possible. Accordingly, the claimed subject matter is intended to embrace all such alterations, modifications and variations that fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims. Furthermore, to the extent that the term “includes” is used in either the detailed description or the claims, such term is intended to be inclusive in a manner similar to the term “comprising” as “comprising” is interpreted when employed as a transitional word in a claim.
Claims (20)
1. A pocket poof comprising:
a front surface;
a rear surface;
a main body; and
an extendable portion;
wherein said extendable portion positioned on a top edge of said main body;
wherein said pocket poof matches an associated shirt;
wherein said pocket poof and said associated shirt matching in color and design;
wherein said pocket poof having a retention mechanism for attaching to a pocket of a jacket; and
further wherein a majority of said main body is retained within the pocket of a jacket.
2. The pocket poof of claim 1 , wherein said front surface faces outwardly from a user and said rear surface faces towards a body of a wearer when said pocket poof is worn by the wearer and is received in the pocket of the jacket.
3. The pocket poof of claim 2 , wherein said main body is rectilinear.
4. The pocket poof of claim 3 , wherein said pocket poof is pre-folded.
5. The pocket poof of claim 4 , wherein said pocket poof and said associated shirt further matching in texture.
6. The pocket poof of claim 5 , wherein said pocket poof and said associated shirt matching in print.
7. The pocket poof of claim 6 , wherein said pocket poof and said associated shirt matching in fabric.
8. The pocket poof of claim 7 , wherein said rear surface having said retention mechanism including a first fastener positioned proximal to a bottom end of said pocket poof and a second fastener positioned proximal to a top end of said pocket poof.
9. The pocket poof of claim 8 , wherein said first fastener and said second fastener are hook and loop fasteners.
10. The pocket poof of claim 8 , wherein at least one of said first fastener and said second fastener is a magnetic fastener.
11. The pocket poof of claim 9 , wherein said first fastener and said second fastener are releasably secured to the jacket.
12. The pocket poof of claim 1 , wherein said front surface having a front color and design and said rear surface having a rear color and design, and further wherein said front surface color and design the same as said rear surface color and design.
13. A pocket poof and shirt combination comprising:
a pocket poof having a front surface, a rear surface, a main body, and an extendable portion; and
a shirt having a first color and a first design;
wherein said extendable portion positioned on a top edge of said main body;
wherein said pocket poof having a second color and a second design;
wherein said first color matching said second color;
wherein said first design matching said second design;
wherein said pocket poof having a retention mechanism for attaching to a pocket of a jacket; and
further wherein a majority of said main body is retained within the pocket of a jacket.
14. The pocket poof and shirt combination of claim 13 , wherein said front surface faces outwardly from a user and said rear surface faces towards a body of a wearer when said pocket poof is worn by the wearer and is received in the pocket of the jacket.
15. The pocket poof and shirt combination of claim 14 , wherein said main body is rectilinear.
16. The pocket poof and shirt combination of claim 15 , wherein said pocket poof is pre-folded.
17. The pocket poof and shirt combination of claim 16 , wherein said shirt having a first texture and said pocket poof having a second texture, and further wherein said first texture matching said second texture.
18. The pocket poof and shirt combination of claim 17 , wherein said shirt having a first print and said pocket poof having a second print, and further wherein said first print matching said second print.
19. The pocket poof and combination of claim 18 wherein said shirt having a first fabric and said pocket poof having a second fabric, and further wherein said first fabric matching said second fabric.
20. A pocket poof and shirt combination comprising:
a pocket poof having a front surface, a rear surface, a main body, and an extendable portion; and
a shirt having a first color and a first design;
wherein said extendable portion positioned on a top edge of said main body;
wherein said pocket poof having a second color and a second design;
wherein said first color matching said second color;
wherein said first design matching said second design;
wherein said pocket poof having a retention mechanism for attaching to a pocket of a jacket;
wherein a majority of said main body is retained within the pocket of a jacket;
wherein said shirt having a first texture and said pocket poof having a second texture and further wherein said first texture matching said second texture;
wherein said shirt having a first print and said pocket poof having a second print and further wherein said first print matching said second print;
wherein said shirt having a first fabric and said pocket poof having a second fabric and further wherein said first fabric matching said second fabric;
wherein said rear surface having said retention mechanism including a fastener positioned proximal to a top end of said pocket poof;
wherein said fastener releasably secured to the jacket;
wherein said front surface having a front design and said rear surface having a rear design; and
further wherein said front surface design the same as said rear surface design.
