Description

M. ISIDOR. Cap and Collar Combiied.
No. 202,262. Patented April 9,1878.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORITZ ISIDOR, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CAP AND COLLAR COMBINED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,262, dated April 9, 1878 application led March 20, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, Moirrz IsIDoR, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cap and Oollar Combined, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l represents a plan of my article when the collar is unfolded and the cap wit-hdi-awn from its pocket. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same when worn. Fig. 3 is a transverse section in the plane w w, Fig. l, when the cap is concealed in the pocket.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in the combination, with a cap, of a collar which is fastened to the rear portion of the cap, and provided with a pocket adapted to receive the cap when the same is folded up, so that when the cap is drawn out of its pocket and put on the head the collar forms a protection for the back of Vthe head, the neck, the ears, the lower portions ofthe face, the throat, and the chest; and when the cap is folded up and put in the pocket'of the collar, said collar can be worn like an ordinary collar, either alone or together with any suitable head-covering.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a cap, made of cloth or any other suitable material, and so constructed that it can be readily folded up, as shown in Fig. 3, or that it can be unfolded, as shown in Figs. l and 2.
To the rear edge of this cap is secured a collar, B, which may be made of fur, lined with silk, or of any other suitable material, and which is provided with a pocket, a, for the reception of the cap when the latter is folded up, as shown in Fig. 3.
When the cap is withdrawn from said pocket and put on the head, as shown in Fig. 2, the collar extends down over the rear portion of the head and over the neck; and when the iiaps of the collar are fastened together by buttons b, or other suitable fastenings, said collar forms a protection for the ears, the lower part of the face, the throat, and the chest, leaving only the nose and the eyes exposed.
When the cap is folded up and concealed in the pocket a, the collar B can be used like an ordinary collar of the same class, and it can be worn with any other head-covering, if desired.
The great convenience of this article for persons exposed to the incleineney of the weather is apparent, and requires no further explanation. My cap and collar combined can also be used with advantage by travelers in railroad-cars, stages, and other conveyances.
Iam aware that fur collars have been made with pockets for the reception of ear-muffs. Such I do not claim. Neither do I claim a cap provided with a face and neck protector, such being well known.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, a cap and collar combined, the collar being provided with a pocket for the reception of the cap when the latter is folded up, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 14th day of March, 1878.
MORITZ IsiDoR.
