WILLIAM S. MONTGOMERY, OF MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED LOCK-BOLT AND HANDLE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,186, dated April 9, 1878; application filed March 9, 1878.

The object of my invention is to provide a combined handle and bolt for doors, windows, end-gates for wagon-boxes, &c.
The invention consists in the combination of a pivoted handle and a connecting-link with a sliding bolt, the said handle and link being arranged so that by swinging the handle on its pivot the bolt may be moved out or in, all as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Referring to the drawing, A is a plate, to which are attached guides for receiving the bolt B.
An car, a, projects from one side of the bolt, through a suitable slot in the plate A, to receive one end of the link 0, by which the bolt is connected with the handle.
The handle D consists of a bow of convenient form for receiving the hand, which is pivoted in ears 0, that project from the face of the plate A. The portion of the bow between the ears 0 is olfset or formed into a crank, 11,
which receives the link 0.
By raising the handle D from the face of the plate A the bolt is drawn, and by folding it down against the face of the plate the bolt is projected from the plate and locked by bringing the link and crank into the same straight line.
This device serves the double purpose of a handle for opening and closing the door, and. of a bolt or look for fastening the door.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A lock-bolt consisting of the handle D, having the crank d, the link 0, and bolt B, substantially as specified.
