Abstract
Description
- The invention relates to rolling paper for rolling a tapered filter tip for a cigarette. Said rolling paper is used for different types of cigarettes, in particular for cigarettes comprising cannabis.
- The invention is based on the insight that there is a need to improve the production of assemblies comprising a tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper and a tapered filter tip. Said assemblies are used to produce cigarettes by filling the inside of the tapered hollow cylinders with a smokable substance, such as tobacco and/or cannabis.
- The invention has the objective to provide an improved (or at least alternative) rolling paper for rolling a tapered filter tip for a cigarette. Said rolling paper comprises:
-
- a flat paper body comprising an upper edge, a lower edge, a first side edge, and a second side edge, wherein the upper edge is positioned opposite to the lower edge, and the first side edge is positioned opposite to the second side edge, and
- at least one folding line extending transversely to the upper edge and the lower edge and located closer to the second side edge than the first side edge, wherein;
- the upper edge is larger than the lower edge,
- the upper edge comprises an upper curved part,
- the upper edge transitions into the first side edge at an upper corner,
- the lower edge comprises a lower curved part,
- the lower edge transitions into the first side edge at a lower corner, and
- at least one of the lower corner and the upper corner is a rounded corner.
- In a tapered filter tip formed by said rolling paper, the paper body is folded along the at least one folding line to form a folded part of the paper body, and a remaining body part of the paper body is rolled around the folded part in a spiral configuration with the first side edge, the lower corner and the upper corner being located at an outer side of the tapered filter tip.
- Due to the fact that at least one of the lower corner and the upper corner is a rounded corner, the risk is reduced that the lower corner and/or the upper corner will damage a tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper when the tapered filter tip is moved inside said tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper.
- This allows that assemblies comprising a tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper and the tapered filter tip can be produced according to the following method;

- placing the tapered filter tip in a wide opening of the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper, and
- moving the filter tip inside the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper from the wide opening into a position adjacent to an opposite narrow opening of said tapered hollow cylinder.
- The tapered filter tip reduces the risk that the lower corner and/or the upper corner will damage the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper when said method is used.
- In addition, said method allows that the production of assemblies comprising the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper and the tapered filter tip can be automated, due to which the production time of said assemblies can be reduced.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, a corner radius R of the rounded corner is at least 0.25 mm, preferably at least 1 mm, and more preferably at least 2 mm.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, a corner radius R of the rounded corner is within the range of 0.25-6 mm, preferably within the range of 1-5 mm, and more preferably within the range of 2-4 mm.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the rounded corner extends along part of a corner circle having the corner radius R.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the upper corner is formed as the rounded corner and referred to as a rounded upper corner.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the rounded upper corner has an upper corner radius RUC within the range of 0.5-6 mm, preferably within the range of 2-5 mm, and more preferably 4 mm.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, only the upper corner is formed as the rounded corner.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the lower corner is formed as the rounded corner and referred to as a rounded lower corner.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the rounded lower corner has a lower corner radius RLC within the range of 0.25-5 mm, preferably within the range of 1-4 mm, and more preferably 2 mm.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, only the lower corner is formed as the rounded corner.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the upper corner and the lower corner are formed as the rounded corner and referred to as a rounded upper corner and a rounded lower corner, respectively.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the rounded upper corner has an upper corner radius RUC, the rounded lower corner has a lower corner radius RLC, and the upper corner radius RUC differs from the lower corner radius RLC.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the upper corner radius RUC is larger than the lower corner radius RLC.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the upper corner radius RUC is within the range of 1.1-5 times larger than the lower corner radius RLC, preferably within the range of 1.5-3 times larger than the lower corner radius RLC, and more preferably 2 times larger than the lower corner radius RLC.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the rounded upper corner extends along part of an upper corner circle having the upper corner radius RUC.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the rounded lower corner extends along part of a lower corner circle having the lower corner radius RLC.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the upper curved part and the lower curved part extend parallel to each other.

- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the weakening line is formed by one or more incisions in the paper body.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the rolling paper comprises multiple, such as 2 or 3 or 4 or 5, folding lines.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the rolling paper comprises one and only one folding line.
- In an embodiment of the rolling paper, the paper body is made from a paper having a weight within the range of 95-175 gram/meter2, preferable within the range of 120-150 gram/meter2, more preferably 135 gram/meter2.
- The invention further relates to a tapered filter tip for a cigarette formed by a rolling paper according to the invention, wherein:
-
- the paper body is folded along the at least one folding line to form a folded part of the paper body, and
- a remaining body part of the paper body is rolled around the folded part in a spiral configuration with the first side edge, the lower corner and the upper corner being located at an outer side of the tapered filter tip.
- In an embodiment of the tapered filter tip, the spiral configuration of the tapered filter tip defines a longitudinal tip axis.
- The invention further relates to a kit of parts comprising a tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper and a tapered filter tip according to the invention.
- The invention further relates to an assembly comprising a tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper and a tapered filter tip according to the invention, wherein the tapered filter tip is located inside the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper.
- In an embodiment of the assembly, the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper comprises a wide opening and an opposite narrow opening, and the tapered filter tip is located in a position adjacent to the narrow opening of said tapered hollow cylinder.
- The invention further relates to a cigarette comprising an assembly according to the invention and a smokable substance, such as tobacco and/or cannabis, being located inside the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper.
- The invention further relates to a method for producing an assembly comprising a tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper and a tapered filter tip according to the invention, said method comprising;
-
- placing the tapered filter tip in a wide opening of the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper, and
- moving the filter tip inside the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper from the wide opening into a position adjacent to an opposite narrow opening of said tapered hollow cylinder.
- In an embodiment of the method, the method comprises rotating the tapered filter tip around the longitudinal tip axis when moving the filter tip inside the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper.
- In an embodiment of the method, the method comprises rotating the tapered filter tip in a same direction as the spiral configuration is rolled.
- In an embodiment of the method, the method comprises moving the tapered filter tip inside the tapered hollow cylinder made of cigarette paper while keeping the lower edge of the filter tip directed to the narrow opening of said tapered hollow cylinder.

FIG. 1A shows a side view of a first embodiment of the rollingpaper 1 according to the invention. The rollingpaper 1 is configured for rolling atapered filter tip 2 for acigarette 3. The rollingpaper 1 comprises aflat paper body 4 comprising anupper edge 5, alower edge 6, afirst side edge 7, and asecond side edge 8. Theupper edge 5 is positioned opposite to thelower edge 6, and thefirst side edge 7 is positioned opposite to thesecond side edge 8. - The rolling
paper 1 further comprises fourfolding lines 9A-D extending transversely to theupper edge 5 and thelower edge 6 and located closer to thesecond side edge 8 than thefirst side edge 7. - The
upper edge 5 is larger than thelower edge 6. Theupper edge 5 comprises an uppercurved part 10. Theupper edge 5 transitions into thefirst side edge 7 at anupper corner 11. Thelower edge 6 comprises a lowercurved part 12. Thelower edge 6 transitions into thefirst side edge 7 at alower corner 13. Theupper corner 11 and thelower corner 13 are formed as arounded corner 14 and therefore referred to as a roundedupper corner 14A and a roundedlower corner 14B, respectively. - In other examples of the rolling
paper 1, at least one of thelower corner 13 and theupper corner 11 is arounded corner 14. In said situation, a corner radius R of therounded corner 14 is at least 0.25 mm, preferably at least 1 mm, and more preferably at least 2 mm. The corner radius R of therounded corner 14 may be within the range of 0.25-6 mm, preferably within the range of 1-5 mm, and more preferably within the range of 2-4 mm. Therounded corner 14 extends along part of acorner circle 15 having the corner radius R. The corner radius R of the upper corner 11 (see RUC) and the lower corner 13 (see RLC) is explained more in detail in relation withFIG. 1B . -
FIG. 1B shows further details of the rollingpaper 1 ofFIG. 1A . The roundedupper corner 14A has an upper corner radius RUC of about 4 mm. In other examples, the upper corner radius RUC is within the range of 0.5-6 mm, preferably within the range of 2-5 mm. - The rounded
lower corner 14B has a lower corner radius RLC of about 2 mm. In other examples, the lower corner radius RLC is within the range of 1-5 mm, preferably within the range of 1-4 mm. - The upper corner radius RUC differs from the lower corner radius RLC. More specifically, the upper corner radius RUC is larger than the lower corner radius RLC. The upper corner radius RUC is about 2 times larger than the lower corner radius RLC. In other examples, the upper corner radius RUC is within the range of 1.1-5 times larger than the lower corner radius RLC, preferably within the range of 1.5-3 times larger than the lower corner radius RLC.
- The rounded
upper corner 14A extends along part of anupper corner circle 15A having theupper corner 11 radius RUC. The roundedlower corner 14B extends along part of alower corner circle 15B having the lower corner radius RLC. - The upper
curved part 10 and the lowercurved part 12 extend parallel to each other. The uppercurved part 10 extends along part of anupper edge circle 20 having an upper edge radius RUE. The lowercurved part 12 extends along part of alower edge circle 21 having a lower edge radius RLE. - The
upper edge circle 20 and thelower edge circle 21 are concentric. Theupper edge circle 20 has anupper edge centre 22, thelower edge circle 21 has alower edge centre 23, and theupper edge centre 22 and thelower edge centre 23 coincide in asingle centre point 24. - The upper
curved part 10 extends along the completeupper edge 5. Thelower edge 6 comprises achamfered part 25 located between the lowercurved part 12 and thelower corner 13. Thechamfered part 25 extends under an angle α away from the lowercurved part 12 and towards theupper edge 5. The angle α is about 20 degrees. In other examples, the angle α is within the range of 5-45 degrees, preferably within the range of 10-30 degrees. - The
chamfered part 25 extends from the lowercurved part 12 until thelower corner 13. The lowercurved part 12 extends along a remainingedge part 26 of thelower edge 6. The remainingedge part 26 is formed by the rest of thelower edge 6 when thechamfered part 25 is excluded - The
first side edge 7 comprises a firststraight part 27 and thesecond side edge 8 comprises a secondstraight part 28. The firststraight part 27 extends along the completefirst side edge 7 and the secondstraight part 28 extends along the completesecond side edge 8. The firststraight part 27 and the secondstraight part 28 extend transversely, such as perpendicular, to theupper edge 5 and thelower edge 6. More specifically, the firststraight part 27 and the secondstraight part 28 extend transversely, such as perpendicular, to the uppercurved part 10 and the lowercurved part 12. - A first
virtual line 29 extending through the firststraight part 27 and a secondvirtual line 30 extending through the secondstraight part 28 both extend through thesingle centre point 24. - The rolling
paper 1 comprises four folding lines 9. In other examples, the rollingpaper 1 comprises 1 or 2 or 3 or 5 folding lines 9. Each of the folding lines 9 is straight and extends transversely, such as perpendicular, to theupper edge 5 side and thelower edge 6 side. Each of the folding lines 9 is straight and extends transversely, such as perpendicular, to the uppercurved part 10 and the lowercurved part 12. Third virtual lines 31 extending through the folding lines 9 also extends through thesingle centre point 24. - The folding lines 9 are formed by weakening
lines 32 in thepaper body 4. The weakening lines 32 are formed bydiscontinuous perforation 33 in thepaper body 4. In other examples, the weakeninglines 32 are formed by one or more incisions in thepaper body 4. - The
paper body 4 is made from a paper having a weight of about 135 gram/meter2. In other examples, thepaper body 4 is made from a paper having a weight within the range of 95-175 gram/meter2, preferable within the range of 120-150 gram/meter2. - The
FIGS. 10 and 1D shows atapered filter tip 2 made from the rollingpaper 1 ofFIG. 1A . Thepaper body 4 of said rollingpaper 1 is folded along the folding lines 9 to form a foldedpart 34 of thepaper body 4. A remainingbody part 35 of thepaper body 4 is rolled around the foldedpart 34 in aspiral configuration 36 with thefirst side edge 7, thelower corner 13 and theupper corner 11 being located at anouter side 37 of the taperedfilter tip 2. Thespiral configuration 36 of the taperedfilter tip 2 defines alongitudinal tip axis 38. - Due to the fact that the
lower corner 13 and theupper corner 11 are arounded corner 14, the risk is reduced that thelower corner 13 or theupper corner 11 will damage a taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41 when thetapered filter tip 2 is moved inside said taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41. - The
FIGS. 1E-G show side view of a method for producing anassembly 42 comprising a taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41 and thetapered filter tip 2 ofFIG. 1C . - In
FIG. 1E , a kit ofparts 39 comprising said taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41 and saidtapered filter tip 2 are provided. The taperedhollow cylinder 40 has alongitudinal cylinder axis 48. - The method comprises placing the tapered
filter tip 2 in awide opening 43 of the taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41, and moving thefilter tip 2 inside the taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41 from thewide opening 43 into a position adjacent to an oppositenarrow opening 44 of said taperedhollow cylinder 40. - In
FIG. 1F , the taperedfilter tip 2 is moving through the inside of the taperedhollow cylinder 40 towards thenarrow opening 44. - The method comprises rotating the
tapered filter tip 2 around thelongitudinal tip axis 38 when moving thefilter tip 2 inside the taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41. - The method comprises rotating the
tapered filter tip 2 in a same direction as thespiral configuration 36 is rolled. The rotation direction of thespiral configuration 36 is indicated byrotation arrow 46. The rotation direction of the taperedfilter tip 2 is indicated byrotation arrow 47. - The method comprises moving the tapered
filter tip 2 inside the taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41 while keeping thelower edge 6 of thefilter tip 2 directed to thenarrow opening 44 of said taperedhollow cylinder 40. - In
FIG. 1G , the taperedfilter tip 2 has reached the position adjacent to thenarrow opening 44 and inside the taperedhollow cylinder 40. - The result of the method is an
assembly 42 comprising the taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41 and thetapered filter tip 2, wherein the taperedfilter tip 2 is located inside the taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41. Thetapered filter tip 2 is located in a position adjacent to thenarrow opening 44 of said taperedhollow cylinder 40. - The
rounded corners 14 of the taperedfilter tip 2 reduce the risk that the taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41 is damaged when the method is used. - In addition, said method allows that the production of
assemblies 42 comprising the taperedhollow cylinder 40 made ofcigarette paper 41 and thetapered filter tip 2 can be automated, due to which the production time of saidassemblies 42 can be reduced. -
FIG. 1H schematically shows a side view of acigarette 3 comprising theassembly 42 ofFIG. 1G and asmokable substance 45. - The
FIGS. 2A and B show a side view of a second embodiment of the rollingpaper 1 according to the invention. The rollingpaper 1 differs fromFIG. 1A in that the lowercurved part 12 extends along the completelower edge 6.FIG. 2C shows a side view of atapered filter tip 2 made from the rollingpaper 1 ofFIG. 2A . - The
FIGS. 3A and B show a side view of a third embodiment of the rollingpaper 1 according to the invention. The rollingpaper 1 differs fromFIG. 1A in that only theupper corner 11 is formed as therounded corner 14.FIG. 3C shows a side view of atapered filter tip 2 made from the rollingpaper 1 ofFIG. 3A . - The
FIGS. 4A and B show a side view of a fourth embodiment of the rollingpaper 1 according to the invention. The rollingpaper 1 differs fromFIG. 1A in that the lowercurved part 12 extends along the completelower edge 6 and that only theupper corner 11 is formed as therounded corner 14.FIG. 4C shows a side view of atapered filter tip 2 made from the rollingpaper 1 ofFIG. 4A . - The
FIGS. 5A and B show a side view of a fifth embodiment of the rollingpaper 1 according to the invention. The rollingpaper 1 differs fromFIG. 1A in that the lowercurved part 12 extends along the completelower edge 6 and that only thelower corner 13 is formed as therounded corner 14.FIG. 5C shows a side view of atapered filter tip 2 made from the rollingpaper 1 ofFIG. 5A . In an alternative embodiment, thelower edge 6 comprises achamfered part 25 located between the lowercurved part 12 and thelower corner 13 as shown inFIG. 1A . - As required, detailed embodiments of the present invention are disclosed herein; however, it is to be understood that the disclosed embodiments are merely exemplary of the invention, which can be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific structural and functional details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but merely as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to variously employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed structure. Further, the terms and phrases used herein are not intended to be limiting, but rather, to provide an understandable description of the invention.
- The terms “a” or “an”, as used herein, are defined as one or more than one. The term plurality, as used herein, is defined as two or more than two. The term another, as used herein, is defined as at least a second or more. The terms including and/or having, as used herein, are defined as comprising (i.e., open language, not excluding other elements or steps). Any reference signs in the claims should not be construed as limiting the scope of the claims or the invention.
- It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications can be made to the rolling paper, tapered filter tip, kit of parts, assembly, cigarette and method according to the invention without departing from the scope as defined in the claims.
