Application January 21, 1935, Serial No. 2,780
4 Claims.
7 This invention relates to display apparatus in general; and more particularly, to apparatus including a case combined with folding brackets or supports adapted for use with the case in forming folding tray supports for conveniently displaying articles, such as packages of seeds and the like.
The main object of the invention is to provide apparatus of the character described in which the supports for the display trays can be folded and packed in the case along with the trays and articles designed for display thereon.
Other objects of the invention will become ap-- parent as the detailed description thereof prooeeds.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a perspective view of the apparatus with the display trays removed;
Figure 2 a fragmentary central vertical section through the apparatus with two trays shown in display position thereon;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail to an enlarged scale, illustrating a supporting bracket forming part of said invention; and
Figure 4 is a transverse section taken on the line il of Figure 3.
As shown in the drawing, the invention comprises a box or case designated generally by the reference numeral I, and a pair of folding brackets designated generally by the reference numerals 2 and 3, and adapted when positioned as shown in Figure 1 to support display trays 4 and 5.
The box I comprises a bottom 3 suitably secured to the side walls l and 8, front wall i3 and rear wall it A top plate H is suitably secured to the upper edge of the rear wall Ill and to the upper edges of walls I and ii and a lid 12 is suitably hinged to the plate H.
The front wall 5? is narrower than the rear wall ill; and the side walls l and 8 are cut to provide recesses 53 and M adapted to receive a flap l5 which is hinged to the upper edge of wall Q. The combined widths of the wall 9 and flap 55 are equal to the width of rear wall iii, so that the free edge of flap I5 will be flush with the upper edges of the Walls 7 and u, when the flap is rotated to seat in said recesses l3 and M.
The brackets 2 and 3 are identical. Therefore it is'only necessary to describe one of them in detail. Each bracket comprises the wrought iron straps l5 and H, pivotally connected to each other to form with the case I an inclined supporting frame for the display trays 4 and 5. The lower part of the trap 56 is twisted and bent to form a substantially horizontal supporting plate it adapted to rest on the upper edge, of front wall 9, when in operative position.
The plate 56 is bent to form upwardly extending stop member 59 and a downwardly extending it having a bend it at its lower end. The hinges 22 and 23 support the flap l5, when in open position at a distance from the front face of wall Q sufficient to receive the arm 29 snugly.
The upper end or strap it is shaped to provide a lateral extension 24 which is pivoted by means of a rivet 25, or other suitable pivot connection, to the strap l'l near the lower end thereof. The lower part of the strap ii is twisted to form stop plate 26 at right angles to the plane of the main body of strap ll. This plate 26 extends across the upper edge of strap iii, to prevent buckling of the straps l6 and H when these are arranged in tray supporting position.
The strap ll is further shaped to provide a substantially horizontal tray supporting member 2?, which at its outer end is bent upwardly to form a stop lug 28. The upper end of strap ll is twisted and bent to form a hook 29 adapted to hook over the free edge of the lid or cover I2.
As will be apparent from the drawing the plate I8 and stop member l9 form a support for the lower end of the tray 4; and the bend 28 at the lower end of the strap ll forms a support for the upper end of said tray. The plate 27 and 30 bend 28 form a support for the low end of the upper tray 5, which is supported throughout its length by the upper edge of the strap l l.
The trays are mainly intended for holding and displaying packages of seeds; although, obviously, they may be used for other purposes. The trays and strap brackets are intended to be proportioned so that they can be readily stored within the case I for shipping purpose; and so that these parts can be very readilt assembled when desired for purposes of display.
What I claim is:
1. In display apparatus, a shipping case having side and rear walls of equal width and a front wall of less width than said walls, a flap 5 hinged to the front wall, the combined widths of said front wall and flap being equal to the width of said. side and rear walls, a cover hinged to the top of said case, and a pair of tray supporting braces supported at their lower ends by the top edge of said front wall and at their upper ends by the free edge of said cover when in open position, the lower ends of said braces having down turned portions arranged between the said front wall and said flap, and the upper ends hooked over the free edge of said cover to brace the several parts in tray supporting position.
2. In display apparatus, a shipping case having side and rear walls of equal width and a front Wall of less width than said Walls, a flap hinged to the front wall, the combined widths of said front wall and flap being equal to the width of said side and rear walls, a cover hinged to the top of said case, and a pair of tray supporting braces supported at their lower ends by the top edge of said front wall and at their upper ends by the free edge of said cover when in open position, the lower ends of said braces having down turned portions arranged between the said front wall and said flap, and the upper. ends hooked over the free edge of said cover to brace the several parts in tray supporting position, each of said braces being foldable and comprising straps pivoted to each other and provided with means adjacent their pivotal connection to prevent collapse of the braces when in tray supporting position.
3. In display apparatus, a shipping case having side and rear walls of equal width and a front wall of less width than said walls, a flap hinged to the front wall, the combined widths of said front wall and flap being equal to the width of said side and rear walls, a cover hinged to the top of said case, and a pair of tray supporting braces supported at their lower ends by the top edge of said front wall and at their upper ends by the free edge of said cover when in open position, the lower ends of said braces having down turned portions arranged between the said front wall and said flap, and the upper ends hooked over the free edge of said cover to brace the several parts in tray supporting position, each of said braces being foldable and comprising straps pivoted to each other and provided with means adjacent their pivotal connection to prevent collapse of the braces when in tray supporting position, the lower ends of each of said straps being shaped to provide substantially hor-' izontal supports for display trays.
4. In display apparatus, a shipping case having side and rear walls of equal width and a front wall of less width than said walls, a flap hinged to the front wall, the combined widths of said front wall and flap being equal to the width of said side and rear walls, a cover hinged to the top of said case, and a pair of tray supporting braces supported at their lower ends by the top edge of said front Wall and at their upper ends by the free edge of said cover when in open position, the lower ends of said braces having down turned portions arranged between the said front wall and said flap, and the upper ends hooked over the free edge of said cover to brace the several parts in tray supporting position, each of said braces being foldable and comprising straps pivoted to each other and provided with means adjacent their pivotal connection to prevent collapse of the braces when in tray supporting position, the lower ends of each of said straps being shaped to provide substantially horizontal sup-
