Description

P.IB. PIGKENS'. Work B0X.
No. 202,048. Patented April 2, |878.

PULASKI B. PICKENS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN WORK-BOXES.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,048,- dated April 2, 187 8; application filed February 20, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PULAsKI B. PIcKENs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Covers for Boxes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, in which-` v Figure l represents a central section of a box containing my cover, showing one sideof said cover up. Fig. 2 is a similar section, showing the other side of the cover up. Fig. 3 is a plan or top view ofthe same.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, the letter A designates a cover for a box, which may be made of wood or any other suitable material', and Which is provided with two lianges, ct b, extending in opposite directions from the central rim or bead c. The diameters of the faces a b are precisely alike, both being made to lit the mouth of the box B for which the cover is intended.
In one face of my cover is a recess or cavity, d, for the reception of a pin-cushion, C; and in the opposite face of said cover is a cavity or recess, e, for the reception of a box, D, to hold any close-fitting article-for instance, a paper of pins, D', said paper being Wound in a convolute form, as shown in Fig.v 3. By these means I am enabled to place my cover on the box in the position shown in Fig.
l, so as to expose the pin-cushion, or in they position shown in Figs. 2 and 3, where the paper of pins is exposed, and either the pincushion or the paper of pins can be brought in a convenient position for-use.
The recess e has a smaller diameter than the recess d, so that in forming these recesses in the cover they will not meet or approach each other so closely as to render the partition liable to break either during the process of manufacture or when the box is in use; nor do they materially weaken the cover.
I am aware that pin-cushions have been-connected to the covers of boxes, and do not claim such as my invention.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rIhe box B, provided with the removable cover A, having in its opposite sides the recesses d and e, of unequal diameters, and containing, respectively, the pin-cushion C and box l), substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 19th day of February, 187 S.
PULASKI B. PICKENS.
