The copyright owner has no objection to the facsimile reproduction by anyone of the patent document or the patent disclosure, as it appears in the Patent and Trademark Office patent file or records, but otherwise reserves all copyright rights whatsoever. 37 CFR 1.71(d).
- The following includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention(s). It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art, or material, to the presently described or claimed inventions, or that any publication or document that is specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
- The present invention relates generally to the field of pillow devices and more specifically relates to an improved air pillow comprising three separately-inflated, wedge-shaped air-bladders structured and arranged to be stacked one atop the other, such that users can inflate one, two, or all three bladders, thus adjusting the angle and depth of the pillow to their own needs.
- Nothing is so good for what ails us as a good night's sleep, but for an increasing number of Americans, a good night's sleep is hard to get. So hard to get, reportedly, that sleep problems have become the number one health-related problem in the United States. According to a recent study by the National Commission on Sleep Disorders, sleep deprivation costs the American economy $150 billion each year in higher stress and reduced worker productivity; and according to a CNN poll of medical professionals, sleep problems nationwide have reached epidemic proportions. Lack of sleep leads to health problems including fatigue, obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, a shortened lifespan, suppressed immune systems and depression; and recent studies implicate sleep deprivation in diabetes. We sleep an average of 6.5 hours per night, almost an hour less now than a few decades ago. According to the National Sleep Foundation's Annual Sleep Survey, almost 74 percent of all Americans do not get enough sleep, and upwards of one in three adults has trouble sleeping every single night.
- In the effort to get ourselves a good night's sleep, we can employ a wide variety of techniques, from drinking warm milk before bed to getting more exercise during the day, to taking nutritional supplements, meditating, staying up until the yawns absolutely overtake us, listening to soothing music at bedtime, taking over-the-counter or prescription sleeping pills. All of these remedies, and many more, work—for some of the people, some of the time. But few are those who sleep well and straight through the night, every night. The rest of us, it seems, are doomed to toss and turn, get up for a drink of water or an old movie on
- TV and go back to bed, only to toss and turn and stare helplessly at the ceiling as the bedside clock ticks off the lonely dark minutes of another endless night. For many, the tossing and turning go on until daybreak and the alarm clock's strident call, and the beginning of another weary day. Therefore, a need exists for an adjustable pillow that can be used under the head and neck, the lower back, between the legs, or under the side or stomach.
- Various attempts have been made to solve problems found in pillow device art. Among these are found in: U.S. Pat. No. 6,131,219 to Janet H. Roberts; U.S. Pat. No. 4,829,614 to James A. Harper; U.S. Pat. No. 5,412,822 to Bryan J. Kelly; and U.S. Pat. No. 6,659,552 to Robert R. Duncan. This prior art is representative of pillows that are inflatable separate air chambers that can be adjusted by the person using it.
- Ideally, an improved air pillow should be user-friendly and safe in-use and, yet would operate reliably and be manufactured at a modest expense. Thus, a need exists for an improved air pillow comprising three separately-inflated, wedge-shaped air-bladders structured and arranged to be stacked one atop the other, such that users can inflate one, two, or all three bladders, thus adjusting the angle and depth of the pillow to their own needs and to avoid the above-mentioned problems.
- In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known of pillow device art, the present invention provides a novel Improved Pillow System. The general purpose of the present invention, which will be described subsequently in greater detail is to provide an improved air pillow comprising three separately-inflated, wedge-shaped air-bladders structured and arranged to be stacked one atop the other, such that users can inflate one, two, or all three bladders, thus adjusting the angle and depth of the pillow to their own needs.
- An improved air pillow comprising: an inflatable main body including: a plurality of air bladders and an electric valve including a valve stem, an electric pump, and a power source. Wherein each of the plurality of air bladders are wedge-shaped. Wherein each of the plurality of air bladders are adapted to allow air to move into an adjacent air bladder when fully inflated. Wherein the plurality of air bladders are stacked one on top of the other, such that they are adapted to be filled with air one at a time to thereby adjust the angle and depth of the improved air pillow with respect to a supporting surface.
- Wherein the electric pump is connected to the valve stem and adapted to force air within or remove air from the plurality of air bladders. Wherein the power source is electrically connected to the electric pump. Wherein the electric valve is attached to one of the plurality of air bladders and is adapted to allow air to be forced within or removed from the plurality of air bladders.
- The present invention holds significant improvements and serves as an Improved Air Pillow. For purposes of summarizing the invention, certain aspects, advantages, and novel features of the invention have been described herein. It is to be understood that not necessarily all such advantages may be achieved in accordance with any one particular embodiment of the invention. Thus, the invention may be embodied or carried out in a manner that achieves or optimizes one advantage or group of advantages as taught herein without necessarily achieving other advantages as may be taught or suggested herein. The features of the invention which are believed to be novel are particularly pointed out and distinctly claimed in the concluding portion of the specification. These and other features, aspects, and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings and detailed description.
- The figures which accompany the written portion of this specification illustrate embodiments and method(s) of use for the present invention, an Improved Air Pillow Device, constructed and operative according to the teachings of the present invention.
